  1. I hope Stanton is ok, but selfishly I can't help but think how this may impact the Cubs. If an offseason trade was a possibility before, it may be less likely now. Depending on the severity of the injury, and if Stanton ends up being out the rest of the season, then there will be the question of whether he will still be the same player when he comes back. That would make it difficult to trade him and get maximum value, so I assume it becomes more likely that the Marlins would keep him into next season.
  2. What is the deal with that? Are they going with fewer off days or just playing later into October?
  3. No Soler in the lineup. Another scheduled off day already?
  4. Someone reassure me about Baez... Yes I know that his pattern has been to struggle mightily at each new level before "figuring it out," but his approach seems so completely broken that I'm doubtful he is going to make some minor adjustment that suddenly eliminates his problems. He appears to be completely guessing, pre-determining which pitches he is going to swing at. He takes a fastball right down the middle of the plate, then swings at one 3 feet out of the zone. I realize I am almost certainly overreacting, but he doesn't look like someone who is ready for the major leagues right now. It is also pretty clear that he is over-swinging, but I'm not so worried about that. I'm confident that some combination of coaching and him becoming more comfortable at the plate will help him realize that he doesn't need to put everything he has into every swing. But will that correspond to an improved understanding of the strike zone? As much as I want to see Baez, Bryant, and Soler together in the lineup by mid-April, I'm starting to wonder whether Baez may spend some more time in Iowa next year if he doesn't begin to show signs of improvement over the next few weeks.
  5. Delayed again, and it is actually raining this time.
  6. I stand corrected! I suppose maybe they will be stricter about it when demand is back up, or maybe not.
  7. No, you can't do that, and you can't will them to a family member either. There is no system for transferring ownership that I am aware of.
  8. Soler's single was not one that I would consider a "seeing eye" grounder.
  9. I have no idea what this is, but I like it.
  10. He crushed a ball to center, but got under it just a tiny bit and it went off the wall. It was only a single because he stood there admiring it instead of running. Why did Baez not score? He wasn't sure whether the ball would be caught, which is completely understandable.
  11. He was pulled late last night after tweaking his back. It didn't look like anything serious.
  12. This is a really good question, but my guess it that it would need to be "resumed" before it could be considered an official game.
  13. That's what a 1 WAR grounds crew can do for a team.
  14. Longest delay to rain ratio ever? I have no proof to back that up, but it must be true.
  15. I've always wondered why the tarp has to be in one gigantic piece that can be easily weighed down by rain. Why can't it be a few smaller pieces that cover up just the dirt? Each piece will be lighter and more manageable. I assume it is at least partially because smaller tarps would be more susceptible to wind and harder to keep in place, whereas the weight of a large tarp ensures that it stays where they put it. I can just picture small tarps blowing through the air like what usually happens when I attempt to rake my leaves onto one.
  16. Only a few more hours until the sun will come up to dry out the infield... might as well wait it out!
  17. And the infield is a mess... It might be awhile before this game resumes, if at all. What the hell happened there? How could it possibly take 15 minutes? The tarp got stuck and they couldn't pull it any further, so after a long struggle they took it back off and got it on the second time. Then when they removed the tarp, they dumped a ton of water into shallow right field, much of which ran right back onto the infield dirt. I imagine they will get a stern talking to after this performance.
  18. And the infield is a mess... It might be awhile before this game resumes, if at all.
  19. I don't know if any of it was shown on tv, but the grounds crew took about 15 minutes to get the infield covered. They seemingly had no idea what they were doing. Now they are trying to figure out how to take it off. Good times...
  20. I would be ok with Jackson taking over for Villanueva next year in the swing/long relief role. If he can't handle that, then DFA him mid-season.
