  1. Whether the Lakers make it or not, it is ridiculous that we're talking about teams with winning percentages in the low 40's battling for playoff spots.
  2. MLB.com has the Cubs farm system ranked #18, which certainly seems low. Equally depressing is the Dodgers at #5. Why can't we have nice things?
  3. A player can only be optioned 5 times in one season, so I think they are saying that count won't start until May 2.
  4. In general, I think the more you spend, the more you are probably going to lose. And in the really good years, I knew people with much worse seats than mine who were able to sell their tickets for almost the same price that I was selling mine for. There is more room for profit on the cheaper seats and less risk of big losses. But it comes down to what you want your tickets for - Is it all about maximizing gains/minimizing losses, or do you want to be able to enjoy your seat? I tried to strike a balance between the two. If you go into it with the intent of going to a lot of games and enjoying your seats, then you will be fine.
  5. Listening to the Cubs radio broadcast on Saturday, I learned that the shift restrictions are NOT being implemented this year. What happened to that? It's getting really hard to keep up with all the proposed and actual rule changes.
  6. Expect it to be a financial loss because it will be even if they make the playoffs. Anything short of going to the World Series will be a financial loss, with the amounts varying from year to year. Anyone signing up to buy season tickets should go into it with that understanding, and know that the returns are only getting worse. I think a lot of people don't really understand what they are getting into. Reselling tickets is difficult and many games are almost impossible to offload. I still have all but 2 of the April games left unsold, even at steeply discounted asking prices. Enthusiasm is definitely way down, and I don't see that turning around anytime soon.
  7. Exactly. Why would a few extra weeks of spring training next season change their minds? This is clearly what they want and there is no going back now. I'm just especially disappointed that they didn't at least give us the 10th inning with normal rules before putting the runner on second. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
  8. I'm happy with the signing, but I would have been happier bringing Schwarber back on the deal he got with the Phillies.
  9. It could be a good value if he stays relatively healthy, especially if he benefits more than most from the shift changes. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
  10. This is a reasonable compromise. I still won't love it, but if you allow for 2 extra innings with normal rules, then go to the baserunner in the 12th, I can live with that. Most extra innings games are going to end before the 12th anyway. This way you are still allowing a majority of games to come to a "normal" conclusion, while protecting against the pitching staff damage that can occur in an 18-19 inning game.
  11. But winning the game without a hit, via a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly, is much more exciting! I hate the rule, but we saw A LOT of teams faile to convert that ghost runner. Someone also made a good point that calling it a "ghost runner" is stupid. A ghost runner is an invisible runner that kids use in whiffle ball games to take the place of a player who legitimately reached base. The MLB runner is both real, and unearned.

  13. I was just coming here to post the same thing... I knew they wouldn't let the extra innings runner go, but I still hate it.
  14. Fast forward to Opening Day when he is starting in RF and batting 5th.
  15. They’d have tiebreakers similar to other leagues. H2H would certainly be first. Maybe division record after that. That sounds terrible. A tiebreaker to see who gets to play one less round of playoffs? Don’t like it I just don't like that 1 division winner ends up having to play an extra round. I would much rather have all 3 division winners get a bye, with the 3 wild card teams playing a series of first round games. Bob Costas suggested having the #2 and #3 wild card teams have a 1 game playoff, with the winner advancing to a 3 game series against the #1 would card team. There would still be tiebreaker issues though. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
  16. I don't love that. I will miss having home and home series against each NL opponent. There really is no point of leagues anymore except as an arbitrary split for playoff purposes. Edit - My math was off. I guess the home and home series against all NL teams is still possible, at the expense of some division games. But they should also eliminate the extra games against the opposite league rivals (White Sox) as that creates an unfair imbalance in a balanced schedule.
  17. I'm not a big enough hockey fan to have a strong opinion, but I do like the shootout better than a tie.
  18. If by ruled you mean sucked the joy out of extra innings games, then yes it did! i watched so many non-cubs extra inning games that i wouldn't have. it's instant action/strategy, and 17 inning slogs are overrated. There is just something magical about the possibility of that 17 inning game. By no means do I want to stay up until 2am every night watching extra innings marathons, but I want to know that it "might" happen. I like the unknown of going to the ballpark and expecting a 3 hour game but understanding that we might end up being there for 5+ hours instead. That could all just be me, but I enjoy the unpredictability and the chance to see something crazy/historic on any given day.
  19. this ruled though If by ruled you mean sucked the joy out of extra innings games, then yes it did!
  20. I don't particularly love the ideas of restricting defensive alignments and inserting a clock into baseball, but both of those changes likely result in a more watchable product, so I see them as net positives. For me they fall into the category of, "I wish we didn't have to enforce this, BUT doing so will improve the game." More important to me are getting rid of the 7 inning doubleheaders and extra innings runner, but I'm still not convinced that those are actually going away.
  21. I see Jayson Stark suggesting that they can still fit 162 games in without moving the World Series. How much do you want to bet that 7 inning doubleheaders rear their ugly head again? Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
  22. Funny, the owners have the same approach toward an actual baseball season.
  23. Soon we will long for the days of having to flip between WGN, WCIU, CSN, and CSN+ to try to find which one is broadcasting the game. I don't want any part of Apple's TV service.
  24. I'm all for the players holding firm. If that means losing an entire season, so be it. I know that's easy for me to say since it isn't my livelihood, and losing a year of an already short career is a major sacrifice, but I want to see them make it hurt for the owners. Let that lost TV revenue start hitting them in the pocketbooks again. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
