    That inning ended with only 2 hitters coming to the plate. Not sure I've ever seen that before

    These pitcher signings are working out great.

    If he's not going to walk, not going to slug AT ALL, and not going to do anything special on defense, he pretty much HAS to go 5 for 12 to provide any value. Yes, Madrigal's performance since returning is not long term sustainable, my point is it is a noteworthy improvement and not currently the most pressing offensive problem at the moment(Heyward, Simmons, Rivas). Rivas is another issue altogether. I still like him, and I'm not sure what happened, but he needs a reset badly. His offense has completely disappeared and it is insane to carry a defensive replacement first baseman on a Major League roster. Get him back to Iowa and see if he can figure things out again.

    Through yesterday afternoon he was 5 for 12 since returning from the DL, so even though I understand the irritation I think he's currently better than his season line. If he's not going to walk, not going to slug AT ALL, and not going to do anything special on defense, he pretty much HAS to go 5 for 12 to provide any value.

    Madrigal has to be close to getting optioned, right? RIGHT??? I mean how long can you keep playing a guy who is barely OPS'ing .500?

    The Cubs have to lead the league in lost leads and I would be surprised if there is even be a close second.

    Almost as annoying as his complete uselessness as a player is his stupid practice swing that doesn't even resemble an actual swing.

    Back surgery is definitely scary, but it sounds promising that there were no structural issues. This probably pushes his MLB timeline back at least a full year, but let's hope he can come back next year with no long term effects.

    It isn't too late. I don't care if the Cubs trade Happ, but they should re-sign Contreras and let him be the bridge to the future. Yadi is 39 years old, and now especially with the DH, there's no reason Willy can't be productive for another 4-5+ years.

    I wondered the same thing, and especially to have him out there in a situation where a sacrifice fly wins the game. He had no chance whatsoever to throw a runner out on anything but the shallowest of fly balls.

    Wait, did Heyward get "skipped" in the batting order?No he lined out to TaylorAh,ok. Seems like the right call for him to be the runner then. I hate the rule, but it makes sense to be the preceding position in the lineup who starts on second, not the player who made the last out.

    Patrick Wisdom hits some pretty looking home runs. None of that "in the basket" stuff. Hit it high and let it fly.

    To be fair, Rivas has been striking out almost every at bat. But your point still stands, and we pretty much all knew from the start that Simmons was a terrible signing. How much of that blame belongs on Ross though? He doesn't have much to work with.

    I can't get mad about that one. It was a fraction of an inch off the plate and could go either way.
