    Somebody has to be the "scapegoat" for this season and since Rothschild's contract is up (I think) and he's not one of Baker's guys he's as good as gone. As someone else pointed out, Dick Pole will more than likely be the new pitching coach since he's already here and is one of Baker's boys. Unfortunately there won't be a change at hitting coach or manager.

    Pitchers should go at Biggio's head at least once a game. If he wants to set the HBP record wearing that chicken crap armor on his elbow, make him pay for it. I wonder if he's the guy who taught Lance Berkman to fake getting hit in the head.

    It really shouldn't be nomar's fault. He was trying to go to 2nd but for some reason Neifi was going to cover 1st. Neifi was going to first because that's what the defensive rotation called for. Can't blame Neifi for it either.

    Which is why it's mind boggling to me that he's replacing one of his best offensive assets with one of the worst. (Neifi for Walker) What do you expect? He has to do something to cancel out the positive of Cedeno being in the line-up. Heck, we're lucky Macias isn't in center.

    yeah i wont. my honeymoon in hawaii isnt going to be stopped by non-Cubs played baseball in october... bums..... You all complain now. But when no ball is played on October 5th, on November 5th, on December 5th...we'll all be missing the Cubs. No, I'll still be pissed at the Cubs for throwing away yet another promising season with inept play and idiotic managing. Why, when you can turn that energy towards being pissed at the Illini, Blackhawks and Bears instead? Oh, I'll still be pissed at the Bears. I pretty much stay that way from draft day until the end of game 16. I like seeing the Illini lose in everything, even in intersquad games. Not a Hawks fan.

    Well, we get Cedeno at short but the tradeoff is that we get Neifi at second today. I'd like to see William Ligue and the guy who jumped Randy Myers tag-team Baker right now.

    I saw that story this morning and all I could do was shake my head. I knew he was going to come up with an excuse not play the call-ups, I just didn't know what the excuse would be. Why can't Perez and Macias be the guys who suffer the blown hammys and back spasms? Why can't they flunk a drug test?

    I bet they don't even DL Nomar and ARam. Neifi and Macias will continue to start, and suck at a high rate of speed, and we'll be left with a useable bench of Hollandsworth, Hairston and Blanco because The Village Idiot insists on carrying 12 pitchers so Wuertz and Wellmeyer will have somebody to talk to in the bullpen.

    Most of your decisions sound like smart, play it safe, don't overspend plans. Then you say sign Furcal at all costs. Why? Furcal isn't great. He's hardly an "at all costs" kind of guy. Personally I'd rather see Cedeno play for $350,000 than Furcal for $8-10m. I wouldn't hate to see Furcal signed, but he's not a must have. It's not a play it safe philosophy, it's a "the free agent market sucks this year so don't waste money in it" philosophy. The Cubs NEVER do well signing big name free agent closers. They rarely do well signing big name over-30 position players. From a free agent standpoint Furcal is the only attractive guy out there IMO and worth the money the Cubs will have to sign him. Typical Cub luck that they finally have the money to be a major player in the free agent market but there isn't anybody to spend it on.

    There's no way in the world Hendry should consider offering Giles anything more than a two-year deal. At most give him a club option for a third year. Signing Wagner would be a major mistake IMO. Closer is not an issue for this club. Stay far, far away from Johnny Damon. Sign Furcal at all costs. Go the trade route to shore up the outfield if Giles won't sign for two years. Completely rebuild the bench, this includes going with an ELEVEN MAN PITCHING STAFF YOU IDIOTS.
