  1. The Dontrelle Willis deal is close to reaching Brock for Broglio status.
  2. I think this thread can be deleted now.
  3. Yet another gutless offensive performance. Murton probably won't play for a week now after hitting another homer off of a righty.
  4. Man that trade Hendry made at the deadline is looking more and more like a steal. He got Murton plus that shorstop the Sox threw into the deal who's filling in for ARam at third. What's that guy's name again? Norman? Neuman? Something like that.
  5. Not sure I've seen this before. Jerimiah Trotter of the Eagles and Kevin Mathis of the Falcons were ejected from the Monday Night game DURING WARM-UPS. After the two were tossed both teams started to jaw at midfield and the officials had to separate them and send them to their locker rooms. Home run Murton. Clearly he can only hit lefties.
  6. Another quality at bat by The Gremlin.
  7. Ummm... Why the hell would Cincy and Milwaukee each trade one of their best players to a Division rival? Especially when only one of them actually gets Derek Lee in return?
  8. There's absolutely no reason for the Cubs to spend big money on a closer. What they need are set-up guys. Signing Burnett and Furcal wouldn't be a bad idea though.
  9. Actually, the home team can set the start time themselves. Most teams do play day games on getaway day, even if its getaway day for the visiting team. The Cardinal brass, being the a-holes they are, never play a day game on getaway day when the Cubs are there unless St. Louis is leaving town too.
  10. If he had an affair with Ryno's wife? That got rid of Palmeiro.
  11. Dusty will always find new toys. Jerry Hairston is a prime example. He was clearly in Baker's doghouse for the vast majority of the season. But now that the only other option in left field is a .340 hitting rookie Hairston is all of a sudden one of Baker's boys and in the line-up every day in left. Unbelievable. Just absolutely unbelievable. Also, anybody notice that the only who guy got benched for missing signs the other day was the rookie?
  12. Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day... Groundhog Day...
  13. That may be the single dumbest thing Dusty's said since he's been here. Does MLB drug test managers?
  14. Scanning that list of FA shortstops one name jumps out at me in big bold letters as the starting shorstop for Dusty Baker's 2006 Chicago Cubs. Rich Aurilia. Ably backed-up by Neifi Perez. Read it and weep boys...
  15. This should make everybody feel better. The Twins had 13 hits today and scored just as many runs as the Cubs did in a 1-0 loss to the Royals, who only needed five hits to score their run.
  16. lead-off single by Hairston. In the first inning?
  17. I wasn't paying real close attention today. Who got the hit?
  18. Let's see, the Cubs have more holes than the Titanic but people want to trade the ONE guy, Lee, who should be locked up long term because it'll bring in some pretty good players for less money than it'll cost to sign him? Ummm.... isn't that what Cub fans have been blasting this franchise for doing over the last few years? Passing on the big name guy in order to sign a bunch of ok guys for less money?
  19. Well yeah, but Atlanta plays in a softer division, they can get away with playing kids...
  20. I'll go you one better. Perez at short Macias at third Patterson in center Hairston in left
  21. I count 41 guys on the 40 man right now. Including the 25 man active roster we have: 15 Day DL Wood ARam Greenberg 40-man not in Chicago Aardsma Bartosh Guzman Hill Koronka Leicester Mitre Pinto Rohlicek Soto Fontenot Lewis Grieve That's 41, plus 60-day DL guy Chad Fox, which makes 42.
  22. OMG Mitch Robinson is on Comcast from Wrigley right now saying Dusty wants to get Kerry one more appearance tonight before they shut him down. I'm not making this up.
  23. If you don't spend the money on Furcal, what free agent do you spend it on? The Cubs have a ton of money to shell out this offseason. They can afford him and still pick up a pitcher or OF bat. They can also trade for an OF or pitcher but probably not a shortstop.
  24. Walker's leaving this week so everybody needs to get used to the fact he won't be around next year. The Cubs need a leadoff hitter. Furcal is the best available option. I'd much rather overpay for a 27-year-old shortstop who gives the Cubs the leadoff threat they need than overpay for 36-year-old Brian Giles, who is the epitome of every free agent the Cubs signed during the 90s. A big name guy on the downside of his career who the Cubs would grossly overpay to acquire and won't earn his money.
