  1. Well at least we got Macias' pinch-hitting appearance over early. Now he can't replace Murton or Walker as a late-inning defensive sub.
  2. And Hairston has been tossed so Dusty is forced to put Murton in the game in left field. Thanks Jerry!
  3. I'm sure the new pitching coach will.
  4. Your opinion would be more valid if the Cub ownership allocated less money to Hendry than what Cardinal ownership allocates to Jocketty. Or do you think they gave Hendry $100 million and told him, "spend it unwisely." The Trib has more in the way of resources than the Cardinals will ever have, yet the Cardinals run rings around the Cubs when it comes to scouting, development, etc. because the Trib will pour in just enough to be competitive and keep the fans coming back. You can't just look at player salaries. You have to look at the entire organization.
  5. Spoken like a sellout. Amen. This entire organization is one giant sellout. This team will never amount to anything until it stops being a line on a corporation's income statement. 100 million dollar pyroll is too low? The Cubs had an 87 million dollar payroll this season. Not 100 million. I can't believe people let MacPhail and Co. get away with that line of garbage all season.
  6. Would anyone consider Hunter a good stop-gap until Pie is ready in 2007? He only has one year left on his contract, so it isn't like he necessarily be in our long-term plans. I'd take Hunter over another year of Patterson, that's for sure. And, with this year's free agent class, it isn't like there are that many quality outfielders available to us. Hunter in CF for a year then move him to the corner spot Murton's not occupying.
  7. A better question would be, would Joe Torre want to manage the Cubs?
  8. Johnny Damon will be 32 on opening day '06. Brian Giles will be 35. Torii Hunter will be 30.
  9. Don't take this the wrong way, but you're on crack. Torii Hunter is a Gold Glove outfielder and a better hitter than anyone who appeared in the Cubs' outfield this year. And a better option than 36-year-old Brian Giles who everybody on this board has some sort of weird man-crush on. Comparing Torii Hunter to Juan Pierre is beyond ridiculous. Have you even seen the guy play or are you just looking at numbers and nothing else?
  10. Right, pick your poison. BTW, was Rich Aurilia batting cleanup for the Reds not the saddest thing you've seen in awhile (Cubs games not withstanding)? No. The Cubs LOSING to a team batting Rich Aurilia clean-up is the saddest thing I've seen in awhile.
  11. Anybody they want. Load the boat Jim. This is the guy.
  12. I was just about to post this. If he's available he should be priority No. 1 for Hendry. Hunter would be a bigger acquisition for the Cubs than any free agent who will be on the market. Bigger than a trade for Manny Ramirez.
  13. Welly, too. Is Wellmeyer still on the roster? Or is he in the Witness Protection Program with Geovany Soto?
  14. Then I hope the Cardinals sweep. This gutless team doesn't deserve to finish at or above .500.
  15. The Cardinals ownership wants to win. The Cubs ownership wants to make money. Therein lies the difference. The Trib is really no different than Phil Wrigley was in that respect.
  16. If Perez goes away Rich Aurilia will be a Cub in 2006.
  17. I'm not too critical on Baker's quotes, but these were pretty bad, despite the fact he's quoting someone else in the 1st bolded one. Wow, I didn't think I'd read anything from him that would actually change my opinion, but this is worse than I thought. I wonder if Campanis also told Baker that young players lack the "necessities" to succeed.
  18. Please delete this thread.
  19. Dear Mark: Please drill Jim Edmonds. It's worth the suspension. Yours in Baseball, LoneStar
  20. Is Geovany Soto in the witness protection program or something? Jose Macias epitomizes everything that is wrong with this roster and this manager.
  21. So it just keeps on getting better, eh? Yep. I can hardly wait.
  22. Soto Lee Walker Perez Macias Hairston Patterson Burnitz Sounds about right.
  23. If Neifi leaves we can plan on seeing an awful lot of Rich Aurilia in the Cubs' line-up next season. He's a free agent and one of Dusty's boys. Count on it.
  24. I'd just like to see a six-man bullpen for a change.
