  1. Yeah! David Bell is twenty times the player Aramis will ever be! We can just sign him instead! Hey, he runs hard on groundouts!! Lots of them.
  2. This is just plain silly. That is not what counts in a 162 game season. NO ONE stepped up when Lee went down, not pitchers and certainly not any hitters in May and June. I really don't care if he runs hard on easy groundouts as long as he puts up big numbers over the whole season. Lots of bad baseball players run hard on their groundouts and put .230, 6 hr's and 40 rbi's, heck that's what Girardi did.
  3. ...and really, the only reason I wanted Girardi in as manager, so he'd bring Kranitz with him. Ah well, it'll be entertaining at least to see a "firey" mgr at Wrigley! :? Well, Kranitz re-signed with the Marlins yesterday. That's prolly because he knew Girardi wasn't going to get the Cubs job. I'm beginning to think Joe isn't going to get a managing job this year. If Lou comes to the Cubs, I don't see how Girardi doesn't get the Washington job. I don't think he's a lock for it by any means.

  6. All managers use stats, but obviously people think there are some special stat type managers, just curious, who are those managers?
  7. Girardi wasn't my guy, either, though I wouldn't be outraged if he had ended up with the job. This quote, though ... infuriates me ... Good for Hendry that he has such close ties to Florida management. I guess he'll always have a job in baseball, and at least he had a team to root for after Game 6 in '03. I don't mind him choosing his guy. I do mind him having his Florida compadres tell him that he shouldn't hire the guy they fired after they hired a guy he was kinda sorta thinking about hiring. What are we to think? He can't do his job without someone telling him what to do? He's like a submissive looking for just the right dominatrix. No amount of talking is going to change his perspective (yeah, that's just Rozner's take). Is Rozner's take reality? Sounds like checking out background to me, just as most employers do.
  8. Bruce, wouldn't it be smarter to go after pitchers like Westbrook, and 2 other mid level starters than throwing a bundle at Zito or Schimdt? I realize trades would have to be made for Westbrook and oters, but I think that would be far more effective.
  9. That really sounds like a guy that is reckless with young arms. Don't let the facts get in the way. The fact is he let a guy pitch after an hour and change rain delay. To me what is even more damaging is that he's seen this happen before when he was a player. He was catching Leiber when Baylor sent him out after the rain delay. Learning from past mistakes is a good thing. Repeating them is a bad thing. Starting pitchers come back all the time after rain delays with no ill effects. A lot of things go into that decision. It's not some general rule. People aren't numbers. No they don't generally come back after an 82 minute rain delay. When a manger does that sort of thing it's just plain foolish. You're taking one incident and extrapolating it to Girardi's entire philosophy. So what is his entire philospophy? Why all the hype about a very mediocre ex-cub?
  10. That makes him very tradeable. I would look for him to be with the Cubs(70% chance).
  11. Lou is waiting for the Yankee job, he says he wants to win now and what better lineup to manage. If Torre is fired, I'll bet George hires Lou without even wasting time to interview Girardi.
  12. While that may be true at the professional level, as a coach it kills me to read a statement like that. That's funny, because I know quite a few football coaches who always talk about wanting the talented kid as opposed to the hustling grinder type. It's obligatory to praise the hustling grinder, but I think a lot of coaches would love the opportunity to coach a phenomenal talent, even if he has some hustle issues. And as bad as some want to paint the picture, Aramis isn't that bad in this department. It's not like he never walks, or never dives for balls and never hustles. He flakes from time to time, but not to the extent of Manny. Baseball isn't a balls out sport, you have to be calm and collected. Goony, I know we don't agree often, but on this topic I agree with you 100%. There are lots of players who out hustle Aram, but have NO production. Heck what good is it running out groundouts when you hit .240 with 10 hr's and 50 rbi? This is a silly topic, it's a media created pile of garbage.
  13. The pitching looks great, but that has to be one of the worst lineups I have ever seen.
  14. wow.... I agree. Great Post by JeffH. Summed up the complete essense of Failure in 7 words. Actually, I find that post to be embarrassing to this site.
  15. Why? Because OSU/Iowa and UM/Minnesota are on now. Good enough for me! lol
  16. If you hate it so much, why do you watch? The game is very entertaining and that's what people pay for.
  17. Just where would you play him? He is the single worst and laziest outfielder I have ever seen. No wonder Cincy will trade him, probably to the AL to be a DH and they probably won't get all that much for him.
  18. Except Pierre is having a far better year. The 2nd year with the Brewers he dropped and now the 2nd year in the AL he's dropping dramatically. Plus, he is a lousy defensive player. No thanks to Pods.
  19. Probably because you weren't in the clubhouse. Phil has notoriously been perceived as someone who let the fame go to his head and treated others around him (non-players) as though they were beneath him. So when were you in a clubhouse?
  20. I enjoyed both columns immensely, Hot Stove talk in August. But before everyone gets upset, please read this line from the author: ". Last year, I was right on Kevin Millar to the Orioles and not a lot else."
  21. Boston is desperate for a lefty in the bullpen, as shown by the last 5 games.
