  1. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07147/789409-63.stm Wonder if The D-Backs will trade him to us for Jack Wilson?
  2. I like it. If you gusy do this, and we sign Mackowiack... You may win the division, but we'll beat you head to head.
  3. FWIW, he's changed his off season regimene to start swinging much earleir, to avoid the classic slow start. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) I am going to need a LOT of paper bags this season.
  4. J.R. House was an 'A' prospect in our system for a couple of years. But, he couldn't stay healthy once he got to AA.
  5. Some perspective, please, folks. He signed a Minor League contract. We've signed Chris Gomez and Josh Wilson as utility players - Macias will have to beat them out. As well as Brian Bixler. My guess is he's our starting second baseman At Indy. Remember, Dave Littlefield is gone.
  6. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08010/848130-13.stm Sorry, no Alex Pressley.
  7. Gives me hope we can finish in a position other than last.
  8. Jake, do you need the number for the suicide hotline?Don't encourage him. Trust me. This is the least of the encouragement I need. I'm still not over Matt Weiters.
  9. Stocking the minors. I hope. Actually, Elmer should make the team. ](*,)
  10. Funny. I've read that blog maybe a dozen times over the past couple of years. Never realized the guys name was Jake. He never caught my interest for some reason.
  11. Who's quote is that? This is the first time I'm hearing anything about Seattle. The Pittsburgh papers aren't saying anything. None of the blogs I read have mentioned it.
  12. From MLBtrade rumors.com: Pirates could still trade SS Wilson? Though Jack Wilson will be back to begin the 2008 season with the Pirates, don't mistake that for believing that we have heard the last of his name in the trade rumor mill. With shortstop prospect Brian Bixler getting closer to being Major League-ready and Wilson's price tag ready to increase again next season, Wilson is likely to be seen as expendable. I wouldn't be surprised to hear Wilson's name floating around as early as the July 31 trading deadline this year. Depending on the Pirates' position in the standings, Bixler's progress and the demand for a veteran shortstop, Wilson could be highly sought after and/or shopped. -- PittsburghPirates.com Bixler needs to take the next step - the step he didn't take last year. If he does, then, yes, we could see Wilson on the block.
  13. Couple of things here.... First, and foremost: Dave Littlefield works for you guys now. :-) Snell is not available - see today's PG: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08003/846267-63.stm Money is not an object - the contracts are not a burden anymore, there's no need to trade anyone to get out from a contract. The intent of shopping Bay wasn't to save money - it was that he's a valuable player who can bring more players in return. As the offers weren't enough, he's still a Pirate. Since Dave Littlefield left, no one has been discussing trading Jack Wilson.
  14. Rumor: Theriot to the Pirates for Bay and Snell.
  15. He's already better than Hermansen.
  16. Jake needs some happiness in his baseball life. This is so true.
  17. \:D/ =D> :D :P Sorry, I can't stop laughing. Maybe, now with Littlefield on your staff, you'll trade us Pie for Morris!
  18. \:D/ =D> :D :P I think this was part of the Aramis trade - I'm giving you a gift, hire me when I get fired.
  19. I'm not sure he has the range to be an everyday SS. Good hands and good instincts though.
  20. Depends what we have to give up. I'm not sure if Inge is better than Bautista. Certainly the defense is there, and with a couple of ground ball pitchers in the rotation, that could help. But, he hit 23-something last year, and Bautistat looked better as the year went on. Catching is a crap shoot for us right now. Which Ronnie Paulino will we see for '08 - the '06 version or the '07 version? Will Doumit catch? '06 version > barret. barret > '07 version. (Jason Kendall > '07 version.)
  21. Why? Does he not want to play for a winning team? He likes his life in Pittsburgh (irrespective of baseball) and doesn't want to uproot his family.
  22. Torres has repeatedly threatened to retire if the Pirates traded him.
  23. Why is this stupid? I think it's stupid because they are selling low. I agree with the article; that it might have been better to hold on to him in hopes of increasing his value instead of immediately settling for a few middling pieces this early (they may have gotten that ultimately but it makes little since to do so now. The Pirates will have an up hill battle in the division as it is and I don't see how any of those players will help). Waiting to trade him would have at least giving them a better chance to increase his value. Reasonable answer. I think there are a couple of other things going on. One, I think his elbow could be done. Someone above was mentioning his general stats weren't off that much last year, but there was something missing that didn't show up in the stat sheet. Second, he became a bit of a distraction last year with his grievance. I'm not judging the grievance right or wrong, just saying it was a distraction. Third, from what I'm reading now, it seems he showed up out of shape last year. Nothing was written last year, and I don't know why this is coming out now. But, he basically admitted it. Yeah, we could have waited, but, of course, there's always a down side to this also. Note that Huntington is holding off on dealing Bay for this very reason.
