  1. I believe we're 2 over .500 against all teams besides the Cubs. As for LLF's comments, it really has no basis in reality. The one thing that's going to help you today is that two of our best hitters were traded in the last week. The reality is, prior to these trades, we're a very good hitting team that can't pitch. We're not losing games 4-3. We're losing 7-9. In fact, 26 of our 50 wins have been come from behind wins. While we've lost two of our most productive hitters, there are still guys hitting. Look at Doumit. Look at Adam LaRoche's July numbers. I don't need to talk about McClouth. The problem has been starting pitching, pure and simple. It's kind to call it pitiful. Let's start with Matt Morris. ('nuff said there.) Snell & Gorzo have been a LOT worse than last year (Thanks, Jim Tracy). Maholm has been good, very good as of late. Duke was better this year than last, but still has a ways to go. Dumatrait had a couple of good stats but ended up on the DL. I won't even discuss the rest of the guys as there was maybe two good starts amongst them. It's no accident that 5 of the 8 players we acquired are Pitchers. But to say that not shutting us out makes us look better than we are has no basis in the facts.
  2. Early in his career, he was great at throwing runners out.
  3. I see Bay doing a lot better with Big Papi hitting behind him, and with the pressure off that he doesn't have to be "The Man". Look for many doubles off of the green monster.
  4. LaRoche, Hansen & Moss are all going to be on the 25 for tomorrow's game. Moss will start in LF, Hansen will go to the Bullpen. Corresponding moves: Bixler sent back down. He came up a couple of days ago when Adam LaRoche went on the DL. Franquelis Osoria, who was on the 25 man roster, was DFA'd. Chris Duffy also DFA'd. No word yet on exactly where Morris is going. My guess is Lynchburgh (High A.) Emphasis on guess.
  5. We got four good prospects for Bay? I'm sad to see Bay go, but, I think I like this a lot. Much emotion here. My 7 year old is not going to be happy, though.
  6. Interesting. I wonder who they got? or, if this is even real? Seems Neil was talking to Tampa right up until the last minute.
  7. I don't believe the Dodger story. If DL were still running the team, maybe. I'd be surprised if Bay was traded. The PG is reporting that the deal with TB just ran out of time. http://community.post-gazette.com/blogs/pbc/default.aspx Warning: Loads very slowly.
  8. 3:26 p.m.: Just spoke with Brignac's agent, and this was news to him. http://community.post-gazette.com/blogs/pbc/archive/2008/07/31/pirates-turn-bay-focus-elsewhere.aspx?CommentPosted=true#commentmessage

  10. At first glance, I thought that the Pirates included Andrew McCutcheon and my eyes almost started bleeding. Confirmed here. Apparently, is wasn't a done deal until now. Edit: Pearse is coming up, Nyjer Morgan taken off the 40 man, not sure if DFA's or outright released.
  11. how is Neil Walker doing this year? Not very well. Hitting upper 230s, lots of errors. I suspect he won't be a sept. call up. that's too bad. i thought that guy was gonna rake He still might. No one is writing him off yet. Another year @ AAA might do him some good.

  13. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08208/899777-63.stm For Jose Tabata, Ross Ohlendorf, George Kontos, Phil Coke Not overwhelming, from what I'm reading in the article. We need pitchers, though. We got 'em. I wonder who's going to be promoted today - Pearce or McCutch ? I'm betting on Pearce, although he didn't show much. I think this is his audition. I'd be surprised if we make another trade at this point.
  14. There's Brad Lincoln coming off of TJ surgery. Then there's...... Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Well, maybe a couple of guys at single A, but they're too far away to really know anything for sure either way. (If one of you guys runs into Dave Littlefield, hit him for me.)
  15. I thought this was going to be a joke when I read the title.
  16. He's not stupid. He's just covering his ass.
  17. Right. We have him for one more year. Although after this year, he won't be cheap! So, if I'm right, the Pirates have Wilson, Bay, Laroche, Nady, and Sanchez up after 2009? Sanchez, I think, is signed through '10, with a team option for '11. But, correct about the others. They're looking to sign Bay & Wilson to extensions. They were talking to LaRoche, but those didn't go anywhere. With his second straight year of a horrible start, they probably won't talk to him anymore. The thinking is Nady, as a Boras client, won't sign an extension.
  18. Right. We have him for one more year. Although after this year, he won't be cheap!
  19. First of all, I want to be clear here: I'm not advocating not trading Nady. I'm just saying we don't have to trade him. If the offer is not good enough, we should NOT trade him. Second: McCutcheon has NOT played well enough in AAA to warrant trading a player to open a spot for him. He didn't exactly light it up last year, either. I wouldn't mind him taking some more time in AAA next year. He's only 21. He's going to be a very good player. He's not there yet. As for Pearce, most of the AAA world now knows he really can't hit a curve ball. They moved him up too fast last year. He never really had time at any level to see what happens when the pitchers adjust to him. If I'm Neal Huntington, I don't trade Nady unless I get some good value.
  20. Then who would you play in right field?
