  1. Wow. Where to start.... First of all, all of you ragging on Wilso, look at his numbers once the trade deadline past. As for Bay's, or anyone's availibility, we have a new President & GM in place. Anyone's availability today is speculative. Even by the GM & President. They just haven't been on the job long enough to be in a position to talk about shopping anyone. Having said that - we lost 94 games and finished in last place. No one on a team like that is untouchable. As for Bay's off year - there's a problem with his knees. What it is is being kept quiet. I wonder sometimes, if he was healthy, how much better our year would have been. Too many games early in the season when he left men on base and we lost by one or two runs. Which Jason Bay will show up next year - healthy or bad knees. That'll determine a lot of our season (assuming he's not traded, obviously) I think Freddy Sanches and Matt Capps are as close as one will get to untouchable on our team this off season. So, yes, Bay is probably available. But, hopefully, unlike the past, we're not going to trade him just to reduce salary. Neil Walker is the thirdbaseman of the future as of now. Freddy will be at Second base for at least three more years. I hope. Catcher: Look at Paulino's numbers in '06. Can we find that guy again? As for his defense this year - Ouch. And his effort - double ouch. He still has options. OTOH, Ryan Doumit, who can hit the hell out of the ball, is very injury prone. So, maybe, we'll have to find someone there. As for our Pitching: Snell & Gorzo have established themselves this year. Maholm showed he has potential. Everyone else who started for us firmly planeted themselves into the doubtful column with their performances this year, and that includes Zach Duke. Our relief pitching... well, could have been better. Torres was hurt all year and didn't tell anyone and blew about 10 games early in the year. (or so it seemed) Some decent synopsis of the team in print.... http://www.post-gazette.com/pirates/statsgeek.asp http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07273/821819-63.stm
  2. Not a bad move on their part. Then again, it'll be pretty hard to top the stupidity the Pirates have had to deal with these past few years. Their drafts have been a joke the past few years. Alwyas taking an average college pitcher who may or may not be a reliever. Heck even McCutchen and Walker leave something to be desired. Although as Cubs fan I shouldn't throw too many stones what with living in a glass house. Look. The Bucs have had many bad drafts. And, a lot of bad luck to go with them. (Let's face it, most of the pitchers drafted are lost to injury.) But, McCutcheon and Walker are the two they got right. No one ripped those at the time of the drafts.
  3. That's the part that scares me the most. It seems like he fell out of favor in Cleveland.
  4. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=As7MEkEUaXRw5I2UCHiu1FkRvLYF?slug=ap-pirates-gm&prov=ap&type=lgns I know nothing about this guy. Anyone? Anyone? Anyone? :-k
  5. Go Phillies.
  6. TLR is coming to Pittsburgh.
  7. After all the grief I catch on this board about the Aramis trade, you still need to ask this? They who have mismanaged are gone. Let's see what the new folks can do.
  8. Looks like the new CEO is going to be Frank Coonelly. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07254/816561-100.stm
  9. Wow. 9-0 loss to the Pirates? Pathetic. And, with Armas on the mound, too. Really pathetic.

  11. New President/DEO coming in. Gives him the clean slate to hire his own man. I suspect Tracy will be let go the day after the season ends.
  12. I suspect Jockety is using the Pirates for leverage. Note: The rumors are that he was being considered for the President's postitiion. I wonder if that will change now that Littlewit has been fired.
  13. Wait a sec - We didn't come in last place last year! :-#

  15. Jake, any chance we get Presley in the deal? :) Supposedly it's someone currently on the 40 man, but not on the 25 man or injured. Presley's only in his second year and doesn't have to be protected. This falls under the "What I've heard" category. I wouldn't bet money based on my information.
  16. Nothing on this end either. LOL on the McCutcheon post. The Duke one's been played out too many times. Word is the Giants have a choice of two pitchers not on the major league roster. No names, though. They're going to get someone good, I fear.
  17. He'll be a Pirate by Monday. Jack Wilon cleared waivers. He & Dallas Trahern will be traded for Wilson.
  18. Victor, of course. Minor league deal. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07223/808709-63.stm I didn't freak anyone out, did I?
  19. Same manager. Do Pittsburgh fans hate Tracy? I'm not even a Pirates fan, and I've been annoyed at his decisions since last year. Lou does a lot of stupid stuff, but I'd rank Tracy below even Dusty at this point. Not really, per se. There's so much hatred of littlefield and McClatchey/Nutting that no one bothers to hate Tracy. Tracy lost me last year when Burnitz failed to run out a ball and was never disciplined. He wasn't pulled from the game, nor benched. Tracy spoke of accountability, but, when push came to shove, he didn't hold his favorites accountable.
  20. If I hadn't know it was the onion, I would have believed it.
  21. Seems normal to me. ](*,)
  22. I don't get hwy everyone is so high on Raji Davis. He can't crack our lineup as a platoon. We're playing a converted catcher in right field tonight. We'd do the same without this trade. The only issue with this trade is the money. (Pending, of course, who the PTBNL is. I can't stress this enoug!)
  23. i'm not following you The money spent on Morris/Izturis could've covered a 5 year major league deal for Weiters. Yup. Except, you guys are mostly payin Izturis.
