  1. Truf hit it right non the nose. Sully was awful last year. Started the year as the closer, and stunk. Usually in the second 1/2 of the season he gets stronger. Not last year. Addition by subtraction. I think he's hurt - I think his elbow is shot. We just saved 3.5 million.
  2. They're going to be awesome becuase they now have Torres?
  3. I'd say it's more curious than enamored. He's going to be given a shot, but he's not guaranteed a job. And, if McClouth is not traded, he'll be pushing him for that same job.
  4. Relief Pitching for McClouth? Yes! But, Major league Relief Pitching. We have enough AAAA releief Pitchers on the team already.
  5. I'm only 1/2 surprised to see this. We do need relief pitching, and, with the exception of some starting pitching, no one is untouchable. We have plenty of outfielders. McClouth was going to fight Morgan for playing time. He's certainly expendable, especially if Pearce makes the team. I'd hope we could get a bit more than Cotts for him, though.
  6. Wasted Potential.
  7. I can't believe I'm writing this, but, this somewhat vindicates David Littlefield of one of his worst blunders.
  8. If the Pirates give you guys Alex Presley as the PTBNL in the Izturis trade, and then you included him with that group, perhaps it will be enough.
  9. Neal Hunttington still hasn't shown me anything yet to indicate the 'Stros have any hope of finishing in last place yet. Still early though.
  10. Perhaps Williams, seeing his counterpart on the Northside gathering a team of 25 backup middle infielders, decides he needs a few extras too?
  11. You guys should sign him back. You don't have enough middle infielders. :-#
  12. Yes, Under McCleandon. When Tracy was hired, the whole coaching staff was replaced.
  13. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07308/831121-63.stm I hope he's good. He was a minor league manager of the year. Of course, if we don't get better players, it really doesn't matter who the manager is.
  14. They probably wanted him gone but to save face wanted it to come out as his decision. That really isn't all that uncommon. Ditto. But, not George's style. Cowards.
  15. You're only looking at this young offseason. Pirates already traded for Izturis and Morris to be two of their highest paid players. Izturis won't be back - the new management team probably won't pick up his option. Morris will be hopefully be auctioned off on eBay.
  16. Major House cleaning. Briam Graham, who served as Interim GM after Littlefield was fired was also let go, as was Ed Creech, director of scouting \:D/ , and John Murcurio, head of baseball operations. (Never heard of Murcurio). I'm happy to see Creech go - our drafts are the stuff of legends, unfortunately the wrong ones. Graham I'm surprised to see get canned for two reasons: He & Huntington have a history from Cleveland, and Nutting spoke highly of him when Littlefield was fired.
  17. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07278/823179-100.stm I don't think anyone's surprised by this. He lost me last year. There was one game early in the year when Jeremy Burnitz didn't run out a groud ball, and Tracy defended him. Of course there's this years Marty McCleary relife pitching incident. Ultimately, though, he's had bad teams for his two years here. No one could win with the rosters he had to manage.
  18. Steve Bartman?
  19. I don't think Wilson is going to get traded. First of all, Istzirius's (sp?) option is not going to be picked up. And, as for the flirting with trading Wilson to Detroit, I'd still like to know what was going on there. Supposedly, the Pirates asked for Monroe on top of everything else offered and the Tigers said 'No'. Then, a couple of weeks later the dfa Monroe. So, why was he a sticking point? The reality is that Wilson, while not an all-star, is still a pretty darn good short stop. He hit .296 this year, and he fields the ball very well, generally has a very good glove, decent range and quick hands. He makes around 7 mill per year. Guys who do that much better are going to get 12-13 mil a year.
