  1. Buehrle has made some pretty nasty comments about the Cubs organization and players in the past, as well as ripping on Wrigley Field itself. And he's a self professed Cards fan who has all but stated he's heading to St. Louis the moment he becomes a free agent.
  2. Hey, Buehrle getting hammered is heaven to me.
  3. Mark Buehrle has given up 7 runs so far in the first inning. :D
  4. I don't feel like writing up each and every move I'd make, but here are some of the people I'd make sure to keep. Lee Barrett Cedeno Z Prior Guzman And that's pretty much it. I know a lot of people would point out the omissions of Aramis and Murton, but Aramis would be able to fetch a pretty penny, and I'm not sold on Murton developing the power necessary to be anything more than barely adequate. Don't get me wrong, I do like both of them, but I'm not so attached to them I couldn't even think of a deal. Hill and Marshall could be had for the right price of course, but if we aren't retaining Maddux, Wood, or Miller, I'd probably hold on to one or both of them. And here's a few of the prospects I'd be looking at in particular from some of the teams that could be buyers. Jose Tabata (NYY) Andre Ethier (LAD) Brandon Jones (ATL) Hunter Pence (HOU) Erick Aybar (LAA) Gio Gonzalez (PHI) George Kottaras (SD) Matt Tuiasosopo (SEA) Ian Kinsler (TEX)
  5. And may I ask why you think of that? Solid but not spectacular Minor League numbers, where he was slightly old for his leagues. Very low K rates(and corresponding K/BB ratio) at the big league level, and nothing completely great with opposing batting lines. He gets a ton of groundballs, but it seems to me his ceiling is that of a Jon Lieber, which seems to fall short of the hype he was receiving in the thread thus far. I'm with you on this one. His strikeout rate is just too far below league average for a real career. That is, unless he suddenly gets the control of Lew Burdette and a real defense behind him. Funny story, Maddux is higher on the all time strikeout list than he is on the win list. And his strikeout rate has always been around league average or higher.
  6. Thats hard to believe That's exactly why I stated my disenchantment with fielding stats.
  7. I got bored just now and decided to look up Jacque's fielding stats. According to his DT card, he's been worth 3 runs more than the league average right fielder thus far to date... I think I just lost any faith I had for fielding stats... And then he makes up for it! Go Jacque!
  8. I thought I was hearing all offseason about what a good defender Jacquestrap is... hmmm... I'm thinking it might be time to call baloney on all that.
  9. This is a brand new site that should show off a good number of batting splits for minor leaguers, but I don't know where to find any fielding stats off the top of my head. http://www.brewcrewball.com/special/milb+teams Edit: Forgot to put the link
  10. Ditto Although the constant drinking might have something to do with it for me... I guess I could just blame that on the Cubs too.
  11. Not even close. He's still crap offensively, one good catch notwithstanding. I guess your interpretation of the events is based on how much you hate Barry. I'd beat up my own grandma if it would give me one swing at Bonds with an aluminum bat.
  12. Perhaps but Juan almost lost it out of the glove and had that happened, it likely would have been over the wall for a Canseco-esque bounce of HR fortune. That would almost have been better. Bonds ties Babe on a cheapy. Yeah, that's what I was just thinking. It would have been absolutely fitting for him to hit the ball most of the way, and then get a little help... just like the rest of his career.
  13. Nevin just doesn't hit anymore, and he was never an upper-echelon player to begin with...
  14. I'll never speak badly of Juan Pierre again... it was all worth it just to spite Barry Bonds.
  15. Juan Pierre just made it all worthwhile with that grab. He totally just robbed Barry of 714.
  16. Brenly made Johnson go seven innings in Game 6 when he knew there was a darn good chance he'd want to bring him out of the pen in Game 7. I know what you're saying though, seven innings doesn't sound so bad... Until you realize the DBacks were up 1-0 in the first inning, 4-0 in the second inning, 12-0 in the third inning, and 15-0 by the end of the 4th.
  17. Is anybody else seeing Jack McKeon coming in after Baker gets the boot and running Juan Pierre, DLee, and our pitching staff into the playoffs?
  18. So at the rate this season is going, I'm gonna burn through 2 bottles of bailey's a week...
  19. I believe Ryan Doumit has been learning to play 1B recently. That would solve the three catcher conundrum they've been dealing with...
  20. Are you forgetting about Eyre the other day?
  21. These pitches are going right down the heart of the plate and Jerry's not doing a thing with them...
  22. You're thinking of Michael Fontenot. Interestingly enough, Fontenot and Theriot were the double play combo for Louisiana State's 2000 national champs.
  23. Since we have until gametime to announce who is being sent down, any chance that we're in the process of finalizing a trade and it'll make an impact on who goes? Perhaps it's just wishful thinking, but this prolonged silence is somewhat odd.
