  1. It's too bad, too, since Braun's vorp is a whole 22 points higher than Tulo's. Tulowitzki's WARP3 is 10.2. Braun's is 5.3. The difference in defensive value between a gold glove caliber SS and the kind of play at 3B that has a player almost invariably moved off the hot corner in very short order is quite striking. The Davenport Translations have Tulo 29 runs above average at short, and Braun 21 runs below average at 3B. It more than covers the gap on their offense.
  2. You better be if I was. To be fair, all of this has gotten so ridiculous that each time I see one of his posts, I laugh til I cry. You aren't nearly as funny, which makes you more expendable than MurtonFan. Yes OMC, MurtonFan is more important to the enjoyment of the people on the boards than you are. Now go cry yourself to sleep. I could give a turtle's turd sandwich what you think. See, that's funny, but it's not as funny as being completely oblivious for 10 pages.
  3. I don't know that you can really have a 2nd favorite in the NL unless you were raised in a split household. AL teams are fine to root for, but not somebody you're actively fighting with for most of the season.
  4. Since most people paid with credit cards, I'd assume they'd just refund the credit card and not even require you to mail the tickets back. That's just my guess though.
  5. Being a stat-head, I'm accused enough of trying to take out the human element of the game. I'm fine with the occassional bad call from umpires though, seeing as how they tend to even out over the course of the season.
  6. Marshall posted a sub 4.00 ERA. He's pretty much an upgrade at the back end of the rotation for almost every single team in the league. The Braves aren't one of the exceptions. Smoltz Hudson James Jo-Jo Reyes? ???
  7. Does anyone else smell a bit of a suspension or something coming for McClelland(sp?)?? Or at least being unable to ump the rest of the playoffs?? Extremely hard to tell, maybe his hand got in as it was coming out from under Barrett's foot, but sure didn't look like it. In the end, I think Colorado probly wins it, but still... WOW!! McClellan wont be getting suspended for one blown call. He's still the best ump in the game.
  8. No, he didn't. He blocked it perfectly. McClellan blew the call.
  9. There was a lot of talk about Renteria for either Garland or Arroyo around the trade deadline, FWIW.

  11. Oh wow. Bases juiced and nobody out in the first.
  12. What if the Rockies and Phillies both get in? Rollins, mostly because writers are lazy Holliday not winning the MVP would be armed robbery. Adjusting for ballparks and defense, Wright has been better than Holliday. These are the people who should win, not neccessarily who will. NL MVP: David Wright AL MVP: Alex Rodriguez NL Cy Young: Jake Peavy AL Cy Young: C.C. Sabathia NL ROY: Troy Tulowitzki AL ROY: Jeremy Guthrie NL Comeback Player of the Year: Derrek Lee AL Comeback Player of the Year: Carlos Pena Silver Sluggers NL C: Russel Martin NL 1B: Albert Pujols NL 2B: Chase Utley NL 3B: Chipper Jones NL SS: Hanley Ramirez NL LF: Matt Holliday NL CF: Carlos Beltran NL RF: Brad Hawpe AL C: Jorge Posada AL 1B: Carlos Pena AL 2B: Brian Roberts AL 3B: Alex Rodriguez AL SS: Derek Jeter AL LF: Manny Ramirez AL CF: BJ Upton AL RF: Magglio Ordonez AL DH: David Ortiz
  13. Marquis is not a bum. He's an inconsistent pitcher who's had some excellent starts and some stinkers. He's not at all bad as a #4 or #5 starter, which is what he was signed to be. I definitely think a case can be made for leaving him off the postseason roster, but calling him a bum is way overboard. April - 2.35 May - 3.38 June - 5.09 July - 6.29 August - 4.45 September - 6.15 (after his inning today, if my math is right) He was decent enough in August, but he hasn't been worth much since the end of May.
  14. Number of starts where Marshall has given up 0 Earned Runs: 1 Number of starts where Marshall has given up 1 Earned Run: 6 Number of starts where Marshall has given up 2 Earned Runs: 7 Number of starts where Marshall has given up 3 Earned Runs: 1 Number of starts where Marshall has given up 4 Earned Runs: 1 Number of starts where Marshall has given up 5 Earned Runs: 1 Number of starts where Marshall has given up 6 Earned Runs: 1 Number of starts where Marshall has given up 7 Earned Runs: 1 He might not pitch a huge number of innings, but he's been more than just pretty solid for us. Who cares if that means we're using 3 lefties? The only thing that matters is the quality. I doubt anybody here would complain if our rotation was Santana, Liriano, Hamels, Kazmir, and Sabathia.
  15. Only the Cubs can make De Aza look good.
  16. And yet, somehow, the score is just 1-1.
  17. DeRo flies out to left. DLee holds up at third.
  18. Aramis with the single. Theriot to third, DLee scores. 1-0
  19. And just so you guys know, Kendall has made the playoffs once. Last year. And the A's had a much bigger lead than the Cubs do. And he hit .258/.303/.290 in the playoffs.
  20. If Sunday is gonna be the deciding game for the WC, they'll throw Peavy.
  21. So you say I'm being ridiculous for saying that momentum could exist in other sports including baseball and then you state that momentum exist to "some degree" in baseball, but is "pretty minimal" to the point of being negible with no evidence nor explanation. Talk about calling the kettle black. Do me a favor ask a baseball player if he believes in momentum and see what he says. Baseball players believe a lot of things to be true that aren't. Most of them aren't the smartest guys on earth. Ask a baseball player if a corked bat is helpful. Ask certain baseball players if sliding into first base is a good idea. Etc. Carl Everett doesn't believe in dinosaurs.
  22. Rob

    NL MVP?

they were a .596 winning percentage team with those two before Braun was called up. I kid, but you could same the same thing about Graffanino taking over first base from Fielder. yes, he's very popular amongst the Baseball Tonight crew, but puh-leaz. he's the fifth best hitter on his team, maybe a slightly above average fielder for his position. how stealing bases vaults him above so many others for mvp consideration with these two facts floating about, I have no idea. According to VORP, Rollins has been the second best hitter on the team. Yeah, both his OBP and his SLG are 40 points behind Howard... but Howard plays first. Rollins' production for SS is great.
  23. First order is just based off runs scored and runs allowed. Second order is based off Equivalent Runs and Equivalent Runs Allowed, which are simply the predicted runs scored and allowed based on batting lines. Third order is based off Equivalent Runs and Equivalent Runs Allowed, but adjusted for the quality of the opponents' hitting and pitching. I could be a bit off on all of this, but it's a good groundwork for Meph to correct later.
