  1. 2 years, 5 mil... if I'm remembering correctly.
  2. Hill and Pie is a given. Once we agree on that, they start asking for more of our top prospects... depending on when we ask, they're probably looking at two of Vitters, Colvin, Veal, and Ceda.
  3. The defense behind him, more than anything else. He's only allowed something like 33 hits in 57.1 IP.
  4. So who comes off the 40 man for the Hoff? DFA Pie? Murton? Ascanio? Hill?
  5. I hate this line of thinking. "Well, the Cubs were making one mistake anyways... at least they're almost covering for it, maybe." I couldn't care less about Edmonds. What I care about is the Cubs screwing up Pie because they have no patience with younger players.
  6. I'm just glad that I wont be able to watch the game tonight to hear Len and Bob talk about what a wonderful signing it is.
  7. I honestly have no idea how I'm going to handle the situation. I think I'll probably just see how I feel when it actually happens.
  8. As I understand it he's cleared waivers therefore, no team has put in a claim meaning all Hendry has to offer is the league minimum. just because he CAN offer league minimum, doesn't mean he WILL. The teams didn't pass on Edmonds, they passed on him at his current salary. THe OP is saying that Hendry is thinking that SURELY a lot of other teams are interested in him at a reduced rate, so Hendry will outbid himself. Any money paid to Edmonds is deducted from his salary as a Padre. Jim Edmonds will make 8M this season no matter if he plays in Chicago, Tampa, Gary, or he goes home and sits on his ass. There is no reason for any team to voluntarily pay more money to get Edmonds because it's only going to benefit the Padres, not Edmonds. There's also no reason for the Cubs to have any interest in Edmonds. But Edmonds would be a free agent and Jim has big against himself for more than his fair share of mediocre veteran free agents. Hendry would have to offer in excess of what is left on Edmonds salary in order for Edmonds to get any more money. If Hendry were willing to offer in excess of what was left on that contract, he would have just grabbed him off waivers and been responsible for the contract. The mere fact that he's waited says that we'd only be responsible for the minimum.
  9. If we can get one runner on, Sori will come up to bat next inning. It's not over just yet.
  10. theriot the last 28 days: .370/.452/.480/.932 yeah, that's a guy you want bunting. why not bunt with lee and ramirez in similar situations, whille you're at it? As I said before, different situations for different management. No, I wouldn't bunt with Lee or Ramirez. Would I for Theriot in the right sitation (to get Lee, Ramirez and Fukudome possibly runners in scoring position when playing for 1 run to extend a possible weather delay) - yes? Theriot sucks, he still can't hit, sample size....."yeah, tha'ts a guy you want bunting." So, now he's good then? Which one is it? Wrong guy for this argument. What, is he going to climb out of my computer and beat me up or call me a name? No. It's just that he's been the one guy on the board defending Theriot in every single thread.
  11. This guy is still in the bloody booth?
  12. Meredith has allowed a .566 OPS vs. RHB in his career and a .760 OPS against lefties. Johnson has a .708 OPS vs. RHP in his career and a .823 OPS vs. lefties. So what we were looking at is a right handed hitter who is terrible against right handers... a right handed pitcher who shuts down right handers... and Lou successfully manages to not put Pie in again. It's like an Olympic event for him.
  13. If it was stopped right now, then I think the Cubs would be able to get a continuation right? We haven't batted fully yet. Nope. The game would essentially reset to before the Padres batted this inning.
  14. No, that is why sacrifice bunts that aren't executed well are stupid. no, bunting with your #2 hitter is stupid. or, having a #2 hitter who you'd rather bunt with in that situation is stupid. That makes no sense. Bunting with your #2 hitter - essentially trying to put 2 runners in scoring position for your 2 best hitters is stupid knowing full well this game may be called very soon? http://www.tangotiger.net/RE9902.html Slightly more runs expected with runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs than runners at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. plus that assumes that the bunt is executed properly. there's a much better chance of a failed bunt that results in a double play, pop out or fielder's choice than there is of a throw into the stands or theriot beating the ball to first. so actually the decision to bunt is going to cost you even more than that very small amount. It's not that hard people. The only positive from a sac bunt when everyone knows a sac bunt is coming and the defense doesn't botch it is moving runners over and getting an out. There are several positives if you actually try to get a hit, which is what hitters are used to doing in every single AB. FWIW, I have no problem with the bunts Fukudome lays down. But those are bunting for a hit... not letting everybody in the ballpark know that you want to give them a free out before the pitch is even thrown.
  15. Especially when a successful bunt would have resulted in a free pass that would have kept our best hitter from getting to swing.
  16. Well that was just swell. Honestly, I'm more pissed at Lou for the stupid call than I am at Theriot for the bad bunt.
  17. I could see it happening. We are going to need a roster spot tomorrow.
  18. If memory serves, didn't Henry Blanco cost us a draft pick?
  19. Where has anybody in this thread welcomed him with open arms? Some people are waving their torches and pitchforks; some are looking for a silver lining. I haven't seen anybody saying "this is awesome!"
  20. You and I have very different thresholds for "horrible." The man posted a .261 EqA last season, where .260 is the definition of league average.
  21. took an insult right out of the bill plaschke playbook there. I think we now know what Jay Mariotti's screen name is on this board. He finally made my ignore list. At this point, all of his posts are just coming in here and mocking the people smart enough to understand numbers. It's probably a self-confidence thing. He hasn't added anything productive... ever.
