    Let Grabow walk.. hoping he's a type B so we can get away with offering arbitration. Offer arby to Harden and Gregg regardless. Focus in on Stephen Drew and Orlando Hudson... I'd be willing to give up Theriot+ in a trade for Drew if Hudson was willing to sign a decent contract. More thoughts as I get them.

    And to think we could have traded him straight up for Tejada. There's a bunch of myths surrounding that supposed trade... there was never a straight up offer. The Cubs offered Prior for Tejada and Bedard. The Orioles offered Tejada for Prior and Pie.

    So in a prospects-for-veteran post-deadline deal, you'd tend to see lower level prospects traded, right? You'd never see the top blue-chip prospects that are already on somebody's 40 man roster, because they would be claimed immediately? Or is there some other loophole that would allow this to happen? If I'm remembering right, it's possible to use a PTBNL as the loophole for this to happen as long as the player is not in the majors. The club would trade for a PTBNL who would be announced after the season was over when he wouldn't have to go through waivers. This doesn't happen often with 40 man guys because there usually are so few majors trades that happen where a big prospect that wouldn't clear waivers would be involved. Actually, they can be in the majors... but if they are a PTBNL, they have to be traded to the opposite league. It's a silly, silly rule.

    I believe they adjusted that rule so you have to bat or play the field before you can be removed from the game due to some misuses by Earl Weaver.

    Starlin Castro is really making me pay for saying I preferred Junior Lake in the preseason. Keep it up good sir.

    Whether he said that or not is irrelevant. Jake Fox can barely play 3B, if at all. I don't see him playing 2B in anything but an emergency scenario.

    I'd imagine Chris Robinson is added to the 40 man for september and probably DFA'd shortly after the season, a la Casey McGehee last year.

    That's a really good defensive outfield and you still have Alvarez in the wings. I knew I was forgetting a few people... Alvarez and Milledge both could make their way into that lineup pretty easily.

    The Pirates are trading players away who aren't going to be a part of their next contending team. In return, they are getting some very high ceiling youngsters who very well may be capable of turning them into a contending team. C - Clement 1B - Pearce / Jones 2B - Young SS - Cedeno 3B - LaRoche LF - Tabata CF - Hernandez RF - McCutcheon Provided that team has players hitting its ceiling, that is a lineup that could be very scary.

    His LD% has slipped a bit and that's partly responsible for the drop. But he's also been a bit unlucky on balls put in play. He should look more like a .725 or .750 OPS guy with neutral luck and just a slight bump back towards the norm in the LD department.

    Yeah, fields aren't kept quite as well at lower levels as they are in the majors.

    Worst case scenario, Lugo plays like Miles or Blanco. Best case scenario, he doesn't. For league minimum why not give it a shot?

    It's pretty obvious he's not fully healthy. I see no problem with sticking him in AAA for a month or so to see if his arm strengthens up enough to make him useful. Low-risk, high-reward.

    People tend to forget Burke was a supplemental first rounder since we didn't actually draft him. His stock here is a good bit lower than it should be.

    Paul Phillips maybe? Personally, I'd probably just bring up Chris Robinson as a reward for his work in Iowa.

    That's stupid. A guy with a sub .300 OBP... what guy? Corey Patterson? Neifi? Shawon Dunston? Dave Kingman? And what timeframe are we looking at to determine his OBP? Previous playoff series? The last month? The whole season? Who is getting the extra plate appearances at the top of the order if not Soriano? Fukudome? Theriot? Fontenot? Blanco? The simple fact is this... there are far too many variables in play to attempt to make the kind of statement you're trying to. You're trying to frame the argument in an absurd manner for one of two reasons... either you really are just so dumb you think it's a valid way to make an argument, or simply to stroke your epeen. Either way... you're losing. Cut it out.

    Jake Fox's catching experience allows us to be a bit more liberal with our usage of our backup catcher as a pinch hitter... as he can be an adequate emergency catcher should something happen to our starter. That's it.

    People are still questioning if his bat is worth his defense at 3B... let alone 2B.

    No confirmation yet from any news outlets that I can see... I wouldn't mind the move though, provided it didn't cost much.
