  1. Murton shouldn't be benched against righties or put in a platoon. He's 24, this is his first full year in the majors, and we should look at him as a player in development instead of someone playing up to his full potential. Give him the PA's against righties to let him improve that part of his game.
  2. A sign that Maddux trusts the bullpen.
  3. Hopeful that it's true. Move Walker back to 2nd where he belongs. I don't know how Sing is defensively, but at 6'4" he'll provide a bigger target for Cedeno and Ramirez.
  4. J.R................ awesome avatar.
  5. Pitches/PA total for Murton: 3.79 Pitches/PA against righties for Murton: 3.82 Strikeouts/PA total for Murton: .15 Strikeouts/PA against righties for Murton: .16 BA/OBP/SLG total for Murton: .241/.330/.325 BA/OBP/SLG against righties for Murton: .278/.371/.389 I don't think it's that Murton isn't patient. My guess is he's not getting solid wood on the ball against righties. I don't have his LD% splits (Fred?....... if you have this you truly a God among men.......). A .326 OBP doesn't suck for a 24 year old in his first full year against major league pitching. A .326 is still respectable, especially for a player that we should be looking at as developing, not performing at his hopeful peak level as a Cub.
  6. I can't agree with this. What Williams did was take a team that rode their way to a World Series via the starting pitching, and give the team another dynamic that doesn't force the starting pitching to carry the team again this year. In other words, he took a team that was heavily pitching oriented, and gave them balance without weakening the pitching staff. For that, Williams definitely deserves credit. If you're looking at only 2006, sure. But Williams became GM in 2001, and the only pitching carryovers are Buehrle and Garland. Vazquez, Garcia, Contreras were all added to the team since then, and Buehrle and Garland have resigned.
  7. Link Some more depressing numbers: Cubs OBP: .305 Cubs walks: 92 (vs 148 allowed) Total number of everyday players OPSing above .800: 1, Michael Barrett
  8. Hendry's not going to give up on Jones this early - doing so would be a public admission that the signing was a mistake. Torii Hunter would make sense for the Yankees - he's in the last year of his contract and they've had their eye on him for a few years now.
  9. The best thing he's done is invest in durable above-average to good starting pitchers. As good as the Thome for Rowand deal was, the Sox would struggle without their starting pitching.
  10. Manny Ramirez in a normal-sized LF is pretty bad.
  11. Hopefully this continues and Clemens stays out of the Central division.
  12. Not to be a wet blanket, as this has been a relatively positive thread, but is that necessarily a good thing? While it's true the movement he had in 1998 was the best we've ever seen it, but watching him throw curveballs that year you knew a Tommy John was only a matter of time.
  13. Are you riding the same bus as me? Cause there is no way everyone here will be happy at the same time, other than a WS and even then someone will find fault in it. OK, I'll rephrase. If he wins five of every seven decisions with an ERA of around 3.60, all REASONABLE people will be happy. Better? :D It's funny how because his first five starts were gems, people raise H-E-double-hockey-sticks when he gets roughed up for two starts. If he had his normal year and then had these seven starts in August-September, it would be a different reaction.
  14. The Chicago CBUS? Causes Unnecessary Blinding Spite
  15. That throw made Bernie Williams look like a late-90s Randy Johnson.
  16. He still has great movement on his pitches, although his location seemed to be off in yesterday's game. As long as he keeps the ball in the park he'll have a good year.
  17. Unless Prior/Wood/Maddux be like Oswalt/Pettite/Clemens last year, I doubt we'll have the run they had.
  18. If that happens, Z might become the first pitcher to ever charge a hitter before throwing a single pitch.
  19. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v377/rxdude94/P1020641.jpg Those man-breasts are coming in mighty nice. Jokes of course. It's good to see him on the mound. Hope he doesn't rush himself back.
  20. IF we decided to play for 2007, I'd give as many of the guys in the minors a shot at the show as possible, just to see who can produce at a consistent level for 2007. Find out who's ready to produce next year, fill the gaps in the offseason.
  21. Hendry used to get a free pass from some because fans could always rest on the injuries excuse - if Wood, Prior, Aramis, Nomar etc were healthy this team would be competitive. However those who used to feel that way last year (myself included) have soured on him, IMO, based on the list of moves listed in previous posts.
  22. Bingo. While I'd love to see a Hairston for Bellhorn deal, it would rest on the assumption that Dusty would use him correctly. I don't see that happening though.
  23. Then let's just shut Wood now for the season. He will probably get hurt anyway. Isn't it about tiem for Tommy John 2? Wait he changed his mechanics! Call me naive, but...he's had his shoulder operated on, his knee operated on, his elbow operated on...he's never needed any one part operated on twice. There's not much left to fix on him. Here's to hoping he's healthy for the rest of his career! *note the key word "hoping..." Should we call Kerry Wood Lee Majors from now on?
  24. The teams that don't regress to the mean are usually the ones that make it to the playoffs.
  25. Like I said last night. Neifi struck out to allow Maddux to walk in a run. He was just trying to save us again, by NOT GIDP. He's a great team player, as Joe Morgan would put it.
