  1. That's hilarious. Kobe best season comes at the age of 27, and still falls short of the seasons Jordan put up regularly from age 23 through 33, and now Kobe might be better than MJ? MJ never quit on his team, let alone in a game 7. SAS was seriously sucking up.
  2. This should be said before anyone says that Cedeno isn't the Cubs answer at shortstop.
  3. And he didn't make the All-Star team.
  4. Yes. Playoff appearances since WWII: Red Sox: 1946 1967 1975 1986 1988 1990 1995 1998 1999 2003 2004 2005 Cubs: 1945 1984 1989 1998 2003 I'll gladly take the Red Sox "suffering." Heartbreaks for the Red Sox like 1986 and 2003 are preceded by full seasons of success.
  5. If that logic holds (and I'm not sure that it does), the Cubs groundball pitchers like Z and Maddux are feeling the offsetting effect.
  6. Interesting, because reports indicated that Paxson wanted to go after Pryzbilla, but Reinsdorf indicated that he was willing to pay for Wallace. Btw, how many owners would love to have our GM and coach right now?
  7. If Steinbrenner got mad at Jeter for going out too much, he's flip out at Ponson.
  8. Yes. The man is a Sherman tank.
  9. Will he be restricted or unrestricted after three years? Sounds like he's making a play for more money, and the option to join Jay-Z when the Nets move to Brooklyn.
  10. It will be interesting to see what type of contract Kerry gets next year and from whom. I'd imagine it would be a 1-year deal, no more than $3M.
  11. I used to think Stone should be a GM - now not at all. He should stick to being the best commentator in the game. He has a tendency to talk about 'big moves' that may or may not be true. He's the one who mentioned the Aramis for Manny trade last year, and the one who has said that Dusty signed an extension at the beginning of this season and Hendry is waiting for the right time to announce it.
  12. I'll paraphrase Ditka: There may have been better running backs, but there has never ever been a better football player than Walter Payton. http://www.sportsposterwarehouse.com/warehouse/paytonlegend03pf-1.jpg
  13. For those that are down or skeptical on the Wallace signing, I'm interested to hear what you would have rather seen Paxson do with the $16-$17M in salary cap room he had this offseason.
  14. If Paxson swings the rumored Chandler for Brown deal, this signing becomes an even bigger gift for the Bulls. The deal effectively replaces an under-achieving Chandler with a defensive and rebounding monster and still leaves them cap room to resign Hinrich/Gordon/Nocioni/Deng or pursue free agents. Even without the Chandler for Brown deal, I'm surprised people are skeptical of this deal.
  15. The NBA's over 36 rule comes into play. If the Bulls -- or any team -- sign Wallace to a 5-year deal, then the dollar amount of his final year counts against their cap, spread across the first four years of his deal. So a five-year deal at $16M per season would count as $20M a season against the cap over the first four years of the deal, for instance. For what it's worth, Wallace has said he isn't looking for a fifth season. I just think the Bulls need to blow him away somehow to pry him from the Pistons. Didn't know that about Wallace and a potential 5-year contract. Paxson may have to come in with a 4-year deal that will be significantly higher than Detroit's or anybody else's to make things work out for everybody.
  16. ESPN has listed a potential Cubs fire sale in their rumors section (and to be fair, most of the rumors listed there come to nothing). Williamson, Walker, Nevin, Maddux and Pierre are the players listed as potentially being moved before the deadline. Link, Insider required
  17. I fail to see how that wasn't a bone-headed play. If it were Jock doing it everyone here would be calling for his head. I think the point writing about that play was to show that Corey had enough confidence to attempt going to third on a great defensive CF. There were worries about Corey's confidence after the treatment of coaches and the fans in Chicago. I think that's a pretty poor example to use when he tries to "decoy" the CF and then gets nailed in the process. :D It was also used to show that when he made a mistake, the Baltimore coaches praised his aggressiveness. A play like that in Chicago would have yielded a solid amount of criticism.
  18. I don't think an additional $4M over 4 years is going to do it. 5 years, $65M might. I think Wallace is looking for a five-year deal. I wouldn't mind if Paxson gave Wallace 5/$60M or so - with Tyrus and Thomas and Ben Wallace we'd have made huge strides in solving our size issues.
  19. A-Rod is being made the scapegoat right now because it's easy for Yankees fans - he's a pretty boy who was the richest contract in the majors yet supposedly doesn't hit "in the clutch." Deep down Yankees fans know their problems are the injuries to Sheffield/Matsui and weak starting pitching. Cashman knows that he can solve those problems without sending away one of the best players in the game (who he pays $16M/year).
  20. I fail to see how that wasn't a bone-headed play. If it were Jock doing it everyone here would be calling for his head. 21. It was good to see Williamson call out the treatment of Murton in particular.
  22. I don't see how anyone can justify giving Carlos Lee 5-years and $75M when Derrek Lee gets 5-years and $65M.
  23. Hendry probably sees this as more proof that he can fill the seats of Wrigley at any time, regardless of how bad the product on the field is.
  24. He had ONE good outing in the World Series for the Mets and everyone stumbled around trying to get him in the off-season after that as a free agent. I couldn't believe it when I found out how much the Rockies agreed to pay him. He promptly did nothing for them, and everyone was shocked. Bah. The Rockies didn't do too well that offseason. They signed Hampton to an 8-year. $124M contract and Denny Neagle to a 5-year, $51M contract. Neither pitcher posted a park-adjusted ERA+ greater than 97 during their time in Colorado.
  25. The other problem is that Dusty won't do it, since he's playing to win today instead of developing players for next year. I like the idea since it saves Marshall, and gives Wood/Marmol/Hill solid innings, but it concedes this year as done. Dusty won't do it since he's coaching for another contract.
