  1. Bruce writes that Stephen Adams, the Cubs team doctor, ordered the followup CT scan after the initial tests showed no problems. Nice to know that they got this one right and prevented further health problems.
  2. Sullivan also writes that Rusch was genetically predisposed to this condition.

  4. Also from the same link: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v488/laserena06/baseball/05.jpg A Cleveland Indians fan holds up a sign stating "Look Who's Choking Now," after the Indians beat the Chicago White Sox 14-1 on Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at Jacobs Field in Cleveland.
  5. They showed Wood in the dugout tonight; Len said that he's lost 25 pounds this season and has been bored and working out like a maniac in AZ.
  6. From last week's Dallas Morning News: Scouting Matsuzaka: The Rangers appear to be moving forward with plans to pursue pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka, who could be "posted" by his Japanese club this winter. Director of professional and international scouting A.J. Preller recently returned from a trip to see Matsuzaka pitch for Seibu. The Rangers may make another scouting expedition before the end of the Japanese season. If "posted," teams can submit a sealed bid for his negotiating rights. Matsuzaka's Japanese team, Seibu, would accept the highest bid, giving that team exclusive negotiating rights with the pitcher. If he does not end up signing, the major league club would receive its bid money back.

  8. It would be so Cublike to retain Dusty and let Aramis walk. #-o
  9. If it involved boinking, I don't know that I'd say "You don't take life for granted" when vaguely referencing it. Maybe "you don't take family for granted" or "you don't take prophylactics for granted" ... but saying "life" makes it sound like an illness or disease or condition. But maybe Nevin didn't put that much thought into it.
  10. This midseason or next midseason? 2007 midseason. Maybe it's just me, but I'm getting a bad feeling about Izzy durability-wise. It sure isn't just you. He's not in southern California anymore either. Guy has hamstring issues and arthritis, and it's really cold in Chicago in April and early May. I'm not optimistic about him. He sucks anyway. He's been fragile so far, and we've seen this show a few times recently.
  11. Seconded. Aside from 22 ABs at age 25, Freel was organization filler until age 27. Given the types (and quantities) of 25th-guy-types that the Cubs have featured over the past few years (Macias, Neifi, Ordonez, Harris), they could do worse than let Theriot compete for the sub job. I wouldn't want to enter the season with either him or Cedeno slotted for a starting role, but I'd give both the chance to compete for a 25-man spot. If someone breaks out and has a great season, these things have a way of working themselves out.

  13. You'll probably have to commit to keep editing the first post of the thread. :) The Atlanta Braves have posted their Tentative '07 Schedule. Cubs @ Braves April 18 & 19 Braves @ Cubs June 1-3 Cubs @ Braves June 7-10 That seems an odd setup and I wouldn't be surprised if it changed. The NL East is playing the AL Central in interleague in '07, but I would think they'd have a separate designation for the WSox vs the Cubs (and it wouldn't be a 4-game interleague series).
  14. What do you mean? Like having foresight? I know, it's unlikely. Theriot seems like he'd fit right in on the bench, and that's not a slap on him. A lot of people here like Ryan Freel. Wouldn't it be nice if Theriot could develop into a Freel-type player? Freel has been best in a super-sub role.
  15. Another thing to consider is -- if Hendry has committed himself to Cesar at SS (and obviously barring the ever-rumored trade for Tejada or A-Rod) -- Cesar's stamina. I by no means think he should play through a sore hammy in a lost season, but it does give me some pause when I consider that he will probably play in fewer Cubs games than the '04 Nomar. Cesar hasn't exactly been an IronMan so far. If he's supposed to be the starting SS next season, I sure hope there's a decent bench backup for him.
  16. As others have said, I'd be surprised if he didn't re-sign with the Dodgers. They're a better fit for him.

  18. Or just that the pitchers were supremely award-worthy. I'm in the camp who thinks that Pie's season was better than it might appear at first glance.
  19. Congrats to both! Hill celebrated in style. 8) Do they usually give it to two people? Didn't both Gallagher and Epatt win last year? They usually give separate awards to the ML pitcher & player of the year, and Gallagher & EPatt did win last year. I think Pinto & Dopirak won in '04. IIRC, they usually announce them at the same time and a bit earlier as well. The press release makes it sound like they just decided to name two pitchers as the ML players of the year instead of separating the awards.
