  1. Wasn't the runner at third? (Forgive me if I'm wrong, the radio is cutting in and out - and now Frank Sinatra is singing louder than Rick Monday is broadcasting.) Sportsline: Ball, Strike (foul tip), Strike swinging, Martin reached on fielder's choice to shortstop, Lofton scored, Betemit out at second It wasn't scored an error ... but Sportsline also has one of Bynum's errors in the 1st inning charged to Pierre, so it's not the most accurate source.
  2. Good thing Bynum & Cedeno are still battling away! What makes this all the more hilarious (for those who aren't watching) is that the error charged to JD Drew on what should have been a Theriot triple down the line was ludicrous.
  3. Not an error, a low throw by Theriot, but the DP had to be turned quickly. It's a pick DLee usually makes, but didn't (and I think he'd say the same).
  4. Dempster didn't deserve this. Pathetic.
  5. The irony being that Hendry put this team together based on 'guys who could catch the ball.'
  6. The ball's REALLY snaking out there tonight!
  7. I think Grant Johnson did spend some time on the DL with a hamstring injury? But you're right in that it wasn't the devastating type of injury that Dopirak had.
  8. Some say Hendry (and/or the Trib) didn't want to pay Furcal as much per year as they're paying DLee since DLee is a building block for the team. I can't recall whether Hendry actually said something along those lines or not.
  9. Z was wise enough to go get a separate opinion from a non-Cubs doctor.
  10. They play again tomorrow. Hill vs. Smoltz d'oh! I didn't bother to check the schedule.
  11. I didn't see the game, but it looks like a pretty good outing by Mateo and Aardsma's line is impressive. Second season series sweep for the year.
  12. I wonder if you started today and went backwards through time, how far back you'd have to go to get an above .500 overall record, 19xx - today. They haven't been above .500 under Tribune ownership.
  13. Don't sell them short. The losing rate has increased recently.
  14. That's awesome!!! I love videos like that. Youtube has some great videos of Barrett's grand slam vs the Card in April that consist of people going nuts. Glad you had fun!! I bet it won't be the first sarcastic email he's received on the subject. :)
  15. The Tribune owns this team and is notoriously conservative. Hendry wouldn't fire Dusty. MacPhail won't fire Hendry. The Tribune won't fire MacPhail because MacPhail does his job -- he makes money, sells tickets and gets the butts in the seats at Wrigley. A lousy two weeks at the end of September doesn't mean much when the park was oversold all season long. They won't have to spend much money at all to rekindle hope in Cubdom, get those season ticketholders to renew (as if they wouldn't!), sell out the Cubs Convention, and sell a few more million tickets in February.
  16. Yep, you are right. I have always had a partial plan (first weekends only, then weekends and nights). When they eliminated the partial plans in the past , everyone who had one at that time were allowed to keep it (like the current situation). New season tickets sold were full season tickets. I don't hold season tickets, but a family member has for a long time. The options for new season ticketholders vary by year and demand ... so whatever they're telling you now is legit. Rumor has it that there's only one grandfathered nights-and-weekends bleacher partial plan season ticketholder (with more than one 'seat'), but I don't know if that's true or not.
  17. I'm sure this was probably mentioned, but on one of the should-have-been double plays involving Cedeno-Bynum that didn't happen, Santo of course sputtered, then said, "That is just NOT a good double play combination. They're just BAD! BAD! BAD!" Poor Ron. When even he runs out of patience and doesn't fall back on the "he's just not seeing the ball very well right now" excuse ... it is BAD.
  18. Interesting. At least the rain might help with the fires? Had this email from a friend in Boise earlier today: We have had several bad fire seasons since we moved here, but this year is particularly bad. They have cancelled all athletic events for school age kids (no recess even!) and it is "Red Flag Warning" here (no mowing, trimming, blowing, etc), and of course, a burn ban is in effect. You can't even see the foothills! One of the drawbacks of our lovely little valley! Even the wind doesn't help, it only blows in fresh smoke, no matter which direction it comes from! Choke gag, signing off......
  19. Excellent! Two winners!
  20. Actual attendance was significantly lower and the people who have been going to the games aren't buying bleacher tickets.
