  1. Carroll gave Z a Red in the positional player (starting pitcher) Health Reports.
  2. Another mention of this from Newsday.
  3. Actually, he did quote himself and say 'touche.' Strange. What exactly were Maddux's demands? He did have a no-trade clause, which isn't a huge surprise since relief pitchers and draftees these days get no-trade clauses from Hendry upon request. By many accounts, Maddux / Boras worked to get the trade done (if you believe Will Carroll). Maddux wanted to be traded, but to a west coast team. Since he was traded to the Dodgers and was signed as a FA by the Pads, it seems that he might not have had particularly outrageous demands.
  4. coolhandluke calls it p. 364, Wrigleyville (The Kid from Garlic Gulch chapter - Santo) (italics in original)
  5. Jon, do you know on what date will call tickets are first available for pickup?
  6. Looks that way. A Rockies fan at whatifsports tracked down the spring training radio broadcast schedule for the Rox, but sadly they aren't covering games vs. the Cubs. FSN-CO is picking up the March 20 game, so perhaps that will be available via mlb.tv.
  7. I've updated the broadcast schedule with the XM schedule and opposing team broadcast information. I couldn't find spring training broadcast info for the Diamondbacks or the Rockies. Does anyone know what the MLB.com radio listing is for some of the Giants' broadcasts? Does it mean it will be available via MLB.com / the Giants website? It would be nice if XM picked up the March 2, 15, 23 & 27 opposing team broadcasts. You can email them to suggest just that at mlb@xmradio.com or call (800)852-9696.
  8. Yes, they can and will. Just because Cesar was wearing an MLB uniform doesn't make it a good trade. The vast majority of B prospects won't sniff the money and year commitment that Izturis does either, mainly because they can't hit. I would have been happier with a trade involving a couple of B propects -- though Hendry, of course, claimed they were 'good prospects' in passing -- who would have been more expendable.
  9. Hendry was on both WGN radio and tv after the trade and said that the Dodgers kept wanting to trade prospects, but that he wasn't going to trade a Greg Maddux for prospects.
  10. Welcome to the forums! The list should be updated through this post.
  11. Bump for tram on ticket-buying day.
  12. Last year I heard they ramped down bleacher ticket sales per game as the bleachers approached sellout, which didn't seem to happen this year.
  13. They're often available at spring training games. NC's list of hotels from last year is in the FAQ forum; he'll get a new list up once the '07 media guide is out.
  14. The Cubs have struck deals on the courthouse steps (so to speak) fairly recently. I want to say that a deal was struck with Ohman minutes before his arby hearing last year, maybe the year before, but I could have the wrong player. I know they've stretched it to the deadline previously, though.
  15. I've had the same look on my face over the past few seasons ...
  16. Steve Finley seems to be the main person who keeps mentioning Steve Finley.
  17. I kind of guessed. :P I wouldn't mind if they sold naming rights ... I'd prefer it to more on-field ads, actually.
  18. I'm not there yet ... but I can see a glimmer of light through the tunnel, so that's improvement! It's nice not having the crushing dread of Dusty negating almost any improvement one could hope for in past spring trainings. I'm not sure what to expect out of Lou quite yet, but I'm encouraged that he seems to have assembled a competent coaching staff and that he was so gung-ho at serving as team recruiter during the off-season.
  19. It was actually named after the owner, not the company.
  20. Way to bump the thread for relevant remarks. I don't like the ads. I don't like the corporate creep at Wrigley. I don't like the concept of increasing signage to pay for the likes of Jason Marquis. I'm not anti-all-change at Wrigley and actually thought they did a fine job with the bleacher reconstruction. And yes, I'm a Cubs fan, and yes, I've visited dozens of other ballparks, and yes, I've spent plenty of time at Wrigley. I understand that people can feel differently about this for legitimate reasons, which is why I don't feel compelled to question their sanity or their commitment to the team.
  21. In a not-so-distant alternate universe, Hendry succeeded in signing them both.
  22. Freel had 22 ABs his Age 25 season, stayed in the minors his Age 26 season, and returned with 137 ABs his Age 27 season. I certainly hope there will be a good backup plan in case Izturis is injured.
  23. Awesome. Get the prizes ready, Vance! go_cubs_go isn't a newbie.
