  1. That schedule, though, shows every Cubs game as being televised and available via MLB.tv, which isn't going to happen. Ergh. ETA: Looks like the improved picture quality will be available as MLB.tv Premium.
  2. On XM they said that Zito would be starting for the Giants Thursday (THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW). ETA, from Cubs.com: Jason Marquis will face new Giants ace Barry Zito on Thursday in the Cactus League opener at HoHoKam Park. On Friday, Carlos Zambrano will start for the Cubs against the Angels' Joe Saunders. Rich Harden is scheduled to start Saturday for Oakland against Wade Miller, and Jon Garland will start Sunday for the White Sox against the Cubs' Hill.
  3. WGN no longer can stream spring training games under the agreement with MLB. The options outside of Chicago would be Gameday Audio and/or XM radio. As far as I know, Gameday doesn't do the free ST trial anymore.
  4. Welcome to the forums! Bruce Miles mentions in the same article that Vance quotes above:
  5. Lou says that Guzman looks 'exceptional,' and it sounds like Gallagher impressed him as well.
  6. Then I suggest not adding to it.
  7. There's a broadcast schedule in the Game Threads Forum for Cubs spring training games. There's one game -- March 20 vs Colorado -- that will be televised by FSN (CO) and not locally in Chicago. I'd guess that would be picked up by MLB.tv, but that can't be confirmed until they get around to issuing a schedule. There are seven games that will have no local Chicago radio broadcast but will have an opposing team radio broadcast. XM has three of those games listed on their current schedule. One game is a Giants' broadcast that's listed as 'MLB.com,' so it may be available over the internet. In the past, Gameday audio has picked up all the official spring training broadcasts, but they don't have a schedule available yet, either. The Diamondbacks are going to have 11 games broadcast over the radio, but they haven't released the info as to which games yet. Currently there are 7 games with no broadcasts of any kind: March 6 vs Milwaukee March 7 vs Oakland March 9 ss vs Texas (other ss game vs San Diego will have a SD broadcast carried by XM) March 13 vs Arizona (may possibly be an Arizona broadcast for this game) March 19 (ss) vs Seattle and (ss) vs Texas - neither game will be broadcast March 28 vs Colorado Maybe we can get a Bruce-cast for some of those games!
  8. I wonder how much the reaction in Chicago to the initial decision contributed to them changing the schedule.
  9. Hooray! It's nice to know we can check in for breaking news now, too. Indeed!
  10. Rothschild to Samardzija: Wear Your Hat Straight! This is a few days old, but it made me think of this thread!
  11. Did you polish it off by the 3rd inning, Cuse? Next time just put it under your jersey and tell 'em you're expecting.
  12. The gates open about two hours before the game. Friday games won't fill up as quickly as weekend games, but part of the bleacher scene is getting there early, taking in BP, and, uh, "interacting" with opposing players. There was talk that they were going to adjust the timing of BP this season so that fans could see more of the home team's BP, but I don't know whether that will actually happen. Getting there early also gives you a better chance at a BP ball. I like LF more. Early in the season if the wind is blowing in (and it's chilly), sitting in the lower part of LF completely blocks it and makes it a lot warmer. You have the home bullpen in front of you, which makes it easier to keep track of who's warming up. No problem with the sun in your eyes (not as much of an issue with the 1:20 starts). And you don't have to put up with those yahoos in RF. If you smuggle booze in, be forwarned. Enforcement didn't used to be an issue, but now they have a lot more security out there specifically looking to bust people for smuggling in alcohol and underage drinking. I've seen a lot of people booted for both offenses over the past couple of years.
  13. Samardzija is holding down a roster spot. He's going to be promoted aggressively. He signed the contract, he has to be prepared to pitch. Gallagher needs to throw strikes whether he starts in AA or AAA. He's been on an aggressive schedule as well, and he needs to prove himself again at the next level. He pitched well at the end of the last season, but starting at AA isn't a setback; he has to get back to throwing strikes and not walking a ton of hitters. Obviously.
  14. Yeah, so, what do YOU think that link means? Nothing much, in my opinion. This is the one mention of Santo: It's a shame, a true embarrassment that O'Neil wasn't voted in before he died. That embarrassment is due to voters like Schmidt. So now maybe he'll vote for O'Neil. I doubt he'll vote for Santo regardless of whatever lip service he pays to the Hall.
  15. There's a huge advantage in buying box office tickets. That's why so many people go through the bracelet process. You save money on every single ticket. For games like you're talking about ... if you or anyone you know can buy tickets in person, just go that route and save a lot of money.
  16. As it stands now, it looks like you'd get one extra tv game (March 20) vs seven radio games (March 2, 3, 5, 8, 15, 23, 27), so it depends really on what you prefer and what the minimum sign-up is for each service. If you can't sign up just for March, then it makes more sense to evaluate each service for how much you'll use it over the subscription time.
  17. The Cubs who are in need to campaign for him. It sounds bad, but that's how voting processes work. I have so little respect for Schmidt based on his past comments about the Hall that I boycott him on my sim teams. Maybe Schmidt has changed his stance on voting for someone for the Hall ... when push comes to shove, I really wonder if he'd ever vote for another 3rd baseman, and I doubt he would.
  18. I'm not familiar with how XM does their programming but MLB does have archived games. For instance, current MLB.TV members can view past games from 2005 & 2006 (and Gameday Audio subscribers can listen). Available games are Spring Training, Regular Season, and Postseason (listen only). MLB also allows you to listen and view BaseballChannel.tv, MLBradio, and Podcasts. These features are free BTW. I wasn't very clear in my question. MLB.tv doesn't independently do broadcasts, correct? I thought the broadcasts they carry are the WGNtv or Comcast or whatever game broadcasts. If that's the case, the schedule in the game thread forum has all the tv & radio broadcasts of the Cubs spring training games that I could find (still missing AZ DBacks broadcast info).
  19. Don't they carry existing broadcasts, like XM does on the radio side? If so, there's a tv & radio broadcast schedule for the Cubs and teams playing the Cubs in the Game Threads Forum.
  20. Very good to hear the updates on Guzman. Now please let him stay healthy! A little disappointed about the Gallagher mention, but as noted, it is his first invite.
  21. Welcome aboard! The list should be updated through this post.
  22. In the article, Rothschild says Prior took his extra off-day from live hitters yesterday instead of today. We'll just have to wait to hear that Prior faced hitters today, then on Tuesday to see if that's accurate. Group live hitters: Thursday - off - Saturday - off - off - Tuesday Prior live hitters: Thursday - off - off - Sunday - off - Tuesday
  23. Thanks! I didn't have XM during spring training last season, so I wasn't sure whether they did pick up every broadcast game -- good to know. I'll update it once the XM schedule updates.
