  1. Should we post a general request for donations, since it's a lot easier for some folks to just send $ rather than bid or donate on stuff? :-k Would that be too crass? I sent in a token $20 donation. I wish it could be more, but I'm a bit strapped right now. I'm also planning on posting about a bleacher tickets I can throw into the pot. Depending on the response here, I may do a one-day auction on EBay and just see if anyone bites on some future bleacher tix.
  2. I'll try to post the interim scores (through the All-Star break) in the next couple of days. It's been on my list; I'm glad people checked in on it! :)
  3. One of us would be immune each day.
  4. Here's an evil idea: We auction off the rights to ban someone from NSBB for a day. Flat fee. $5 = ban someone for a day. For premium members, we'd just extend their premium membership for a day for each day they were banned. Plus, it's for charity. Maybe it's just me, but if people organized and thought about banning a member for, say, a year with their combined spending power ... we could raise some $$$$! :D
  5. Yes. Even though there wasn't a direct link to referrals, the predictions contest was a donation-based way to keep premiums happy and encourage people to join up. We've been geared so far toward trying to raise the money just to pay for site upkeep and server stuff, etc etc, to support the site. Doing a charity auction would be a good idea --- but we would have to plan it well. Absolutely well. Unless you want to completely lose credibility, you have to be very clear on what the guidelines and responsibilities are in charity auctions.
  6. I might get in trouble for this at home, but I'll throw in 2 bleacher tickets for the Fri. Sept 23 game vs. the Astros. Are we thinking about auctioning these things off here? We've got to decide that stat. Unfortuately, I'm a little cash-strapped at the moment. I can't donate much via paypal, so I've just got to go the donation route.
  7. They've had some bullpen issues. Chiefs lose 12-11 in 10. They did apparently lead 11-2 at one point, but the Rattlers scored 10 unanswered runs.
  8. 12-11 Rattlers to the bottom of the 10th ... and it could have been worse.
  9. Extra innings in Peoria! good times
  10. 11-11 Tie in the top of the 9th.
  11. 11-10 Chiefs, runners at 2nd & 3rd, one out.
  12. 11-8 Chiefs, top of the 8th The Rattlers have runners on 1st & 2nd with one out. The recent scoring trend is troubling. ARGH! bases loaded! The Chiefs bullpen has a tough time maintaining leads. =;
  13. 11-5 Chiefs top of 7th, but runners at 2nd & 3rd for the Rattlers with no outs. And Baliva thinks the double by Chen should have been ruled a home run. Estrada goes 6 complete, but sounds like he hit a wall in the 7th. Blevins now pitching. Eek, 11-7 on a single ... still no one out in the 7th. Mention of a horrific 17-inning game vs Ft Wayne last year ... maybe that will make the worst road trip story ...
  14. 9-2 Peoria Chiefs so far. Ryan Harvey with a HR (13) and single and 5 RBIs in 5 innings. Fuld so far 1-1 with 2 BBs, 3 Rs and an RBI. :)
  15. If you made it for premium membership referrals, it wouldn't matter. :)
  16. There's a nice feature article on Walt Nolen in today's PJ Star-Journal.
  17. DJaxx - when is the broadcast booth auction? Is it this Saturday night? We're really talking a fast turnaround, then.
  18. The recent jersey auctions in Peoria were to support JDRF, and, of course, we all know about Santo's involvement with that cause. So I'd think that JDRF could be added as an option in addition to CubsCare. I can look through my remaining collectibles stuff tonight, but I'm not sure how much more of any value I have to donate. :? I could probably come up with a few baseball cards that might interest people.
  19. And, though I think I mentioned this to the people I PM'd, just ignore the old locked posts -- they're for an old fantasy simleague I was in.
  20. I thought it would be useful to have a place to post thoughts about possible fundraising efforts -- and whether the night in the broadcast booth for the DJaxx is something that we should pursue for NSBB. I like the broadcast booth idea. Even if the audience isn't enormous, I think it does help to solidify the reputation of NSBB both with Cubs fans and within the Cubs organization. Obviously, the auction price may determine how vigorously we should pursue this. Some of you have participated in past efforts; some I know I've talked with about future possibilities; maybe we could just brainstorm through some ideas. And I promise I'll chip in more when I return -- I'm trapped in training seminars most of today and tomorrow, but I'll log in when I get home. Thanks! :D
  21. That's solid! Good for him. Is it usual for someone to get that many at-bats in a Futures Game?
  22. Fuld has REALLY woken up! Fuld went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI. He now has 20 doubles on the season and moves up his batting average to .285.
  23. 7/7 update on the Walt Nolen journal.
  24. Johnson was hit hard, but (obviously) he could have been out of that inning ... Anthony Granato had just an absolutely brutal game defensively (2 errors at 3B, and one I'm still not sure what the heck happened) and on the basepaths. Johnson had said after his first win (3 starts ago, now) that it had been the first time he had been really locating and getting movement on his slider. Just hope that he'll work back to that; he really looked slammed after that 5th inning. Tangential: Chiefs wore '45 style Cubs jerseys that were auctioned off for JDRF. Johnson's jersey was constantly getting completely untucked. My friends (not huge baseball fans) asked, "why isn't he wearing a uniform that fits?" Larsen was hit by a pitch for the 17th time this season (franchise record is 23). Simokaitus was later credited with a hit in the 8th. Granato had been on 1B; Granato beat the throw to 2B but came off the bag and was then tagged out (disputed call).
