  1. Looks like another rough outing for Grant Johnson: 4IPs, 6R, 5ER, 5 hits, 1K/0BB, 1HR. Harvey is 2-2 with a double so far.
  2. This is the same pitching matchup they had last Saturday (Chiefs won). The 89-pitch CG 2-0 loss that Weber had earlier this year was against the Bees. Eric Patterson is back to the MWL lead in average (.341), 3rd in OBP (.415) and 3rd in SBs (28).
  3. EXCELLENT! :D I don't have anything official yet. It's on the list.
  4. Eric Patterson with a standup triple in the 9th -- scores on a wild pitch. 8) 5-2 Chiefs Ryan Harvey walks Jesse Schmidt singles Drew Larsen singles, Harvey scores from 2B on a play at the plate (he kicks the ball out of the cather's mitt) 6-2 Chiefs to the bottom of the 9th! Chiefs win! Jesse Schmidt = Player of the Game 2/4, 2RBIs He'll probably be interviewed tomorrow for the pre-game show.
  5. Sounded like he was pitching well at the end. He's 6th in the league in IPs and currently leads the Chiefs -- though he, Estrada, Weber and Shaver are all close to 100 IPs. Final - 5IPs, 2Hs, 2Rs, 2ERs, 4Ks, 3BBs, ERA -> 1.80, WHIP -> 0.93 Victor Ramos pitches two scoreless innings, still 4-2 Chiefs in the 8th. The Chiefs bullpen had given up 30 runs in the last 29 innings.
  6. Nathan - thanks to whomever is updating the pitching matchups on the Chiefs website. It's great not having to search through the other teams' websites. Gallagher started vs. Burlington twice, on May 16 & July 2. vs Burlington GS IPs W L TW TL OAvg OObp OSlg OOps ERA WHIP 2 12.0 1 0 2 0 .150 .209 .200 .409 2.25 0.75
  7. Wrigley used to run a bagcheck in a small white building that's adjacent to, but not attached to, the stadium. It's near the front entrance at Clark & Addison (the building is actually closer to Clark & Waveland) and the bike check is there as well. I'm not sure they still run the claim check there, though ... I can check tomorrow and report back. :? On the Cubs.com website, they do say The following items will not be permitted: HARD-SIDED COOLERS OF ANY SIZE AND/OR TYPE THERMOSES LARGE BAGS, LUGGAGE ETC., OVER THE SIZE OF 16" X 16" X 8" BOTTLES, CANS, ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES (plastic bottles of water and soft drinks not exceeding one liter acceptable) There will be no claim checks available for hard-sided coolers at the gates. Bags over the size limit will be claim checked only after inspection. So presumably they do still operate some sort of claim check service.
  8. It's less than $1M if I recall correctly, but I assume Chad Fox is still being paid.
  9. Thanks so much for answering our questions! When you were developing the concept for This Old Cub, what concerns did your family members raise and how did you address those issues? Today it seems that every other family has a reality show, but I would imagine that inviting cameras in to film some very personal moments would be something to which people need time to adjust. Since Ron Santo is a broadcaster and former player, was he more comfortable with the filming process than other family members? I absolutely loved the film and bought the dvd as soon as it became available. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to This Old Cub!
  10. When I first read this, I figured there was a typo ... but actually, "scares" and "scars" both work here.
  11. [herring]Maddux tied for the Cubs staff lead in wins in 2004[/herring] Maddux lead the staff in games started and innings pitched in 2004. [herring]At the 2005 All-Star Break, Maddux leads the Cubs staff in wins.[/herring] Maddux leads the Cubs staff in games started and innings pitched in 2005. When I consider the money paid out to date and money to be paid out in the future -- assuming since he was signed that Maddux would pitch his 400 innings -- I still don't think the problem, pitching or pitching/$, is the innings that Maddux pitches. The Cubs BIG problem is the innings that all the young alternative-to-Maddux stud pitchers haven't been pitching for the past season and a half. I hope that one of the under-30-crowd of pitchers can surpass Maddux by the end of this season in terms of innings pitched, if not in games started. I would assume that Zambrano should, at the very least. He's already just one inning or so behind Maddux with less starts. So Z has that going for him (Z can look into lowering that ERA himself, though) But until just one of those young studs does manage to pitch an inning more or start a game more than 39-year-old Greg Maddux this year or over a 2-year-period, I'm not shedding too many tears about his salary, present and future. I think he's simultaneously overpaid and undervalued. He can still do his job. I'm just hoping he can pass along some tips about pitching every five days to the rest of the crew. Viva Maddux! ETA: I have no problem with him being traded, though. I'm not sure how many good fits there are out there, especially given his no-trade clause. Some of the San Diego suggestions posted here have seemed reasonable.
  12. I have to give some kudos to LeftCoastCubsFan for talking early on (Regular) about how the Yankees payroll and the luxury tax might preclude signing Beltran, among other things.
  13. BABY! Especially not by this Friday, I'm guessing. This is going to be one heck of a game, and you'll be sorry to miss out. Friday bleacher games are the best ever because everyone there is so happy not be wherever they're *supposed* to be. :D Friday games RULE! So sitemail me if you're interested. I'd like to sell the tickets here to take advantage of paypal payments to NSBB in time for the Saturday auction. And I'll throw in a Zone 383 parking pass if it's needed.
  14. EEK! :P It's not, I promise. :) There are a few differences that I notice between premium and regular, and it's probably helpful for people to know where a certain glitch occurs. At work, the anti-virus/spam/whatever software always wipes out auto-login in premium for me. But it doesn't in regular. I'm not sure why, but since I know it's something on my work computer end, I don't worry about it.
  15. No, I'd like to make MLB minimum wage. :) Thanks for explaining, though. It's up to frostywrm to say what he thinks. Obviously.
  16. Welcome aboard, Bo! It'll be great to have someone who sees the team day in and day out contributing here! :D
  17. Removing the end of the url worked for me, too. The search glitch only seems to occur in the regular interface; it's working in premium.
  18. I'll be interested in reading Bruce Miles' version of events, too. :) It's not easy to have to give press interviews after being demoted; he seems to have handled the situation as well as could be expected.
  19. I understand Ron has to check. However, he's mentioned NSBB on the air in the past, and if NSBB is the official buyer of the airtime -- which I think needs to be the case -- I can't imagine that they wouldn't allow a few mentions of Tim or Chris from northsidebaseball.com, . If it is forbidden outright, then we won't bid. Seems that would be very odd way to run a charity auction, and I've been involved in a LOT of charity fundraising in the past.
  20. I just posted the Pittsburgh tix in general discussions, since I'll end up just giving them to friends if they aren't bid upon. I don't think EBay is the best option for those tickets.
  21. I have two bleacher tickets available for this Friday's (7/15) Pirates - Cubs game at Wrigley Field. Kerry Wood should be the Cubs starting pitcher. Please contact me if you're interested. All proceeds from the tickets will go to the NSBB fundraising effort to support participation in a charity auction being held by the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx this Saturday. Thanks.
  22. There's an amusing article about Larsen's HBP Count in the July 3 Peoria Journal-Star.
  23. Wow, dude. I'm not meaning this as attack, but that's one of the stupidest comments I've ever read. It's the MAJOR FREAKING LEAGUES. Kids DREAM about playing in The Show. You CANT be serious. I dont care if the Rays lose 150 games, they're still in the Bigs. Tell that comment to a kid who followed baseball his entire life, collects baseball cards, played prep league, etc - you are out of your mind!!! I'm no moderator, but you should watch the personal attacks (i.e. "you are out of your mind", "one of the stupidest comments I have ever read"). People have been justifiably disciplined for less. Well explain to me the point of posting on a forum about major league baseball, if you don't respect the league? I am a mod, and in the future, please express any disagreements (or questions) you have without throwing in personal insults ... like you were able to in this last post. Thanks! Good luck to JoeBo, wish he could have recaptured the magic with the Cubs.
  24. Here's a blurb from the Peoria paper that mentions Alfredo Francisco's first relief appearance. :)
  25. Just an update: The shirt has been ordered. But -- no doubt due partially to Vance's tremendous efforts in raising the general awareness of DLEE's incredibleness -- they couldn't churn out enough tshirts to meet the overwhelming demand, so it's on back order. (I think they need to manufacture more orange dye  ) http://mlb.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pMLB2-2107623dt.jpg It's supposed to ship in 2-4 weeks. Post here when you get it, Vance! :) A special thanks to the NSBB members who helped make this happen: CT Cubs Fan Brian DJaxxFan Gracie's Girl BRAVO! =D>
