  1. I'm not sure "develop" is the right word to describe the Bears OLine unit. "purchased" might be a better definition.
  2. Back to back games that were NOT available on CHSN. Pissed.
  3. For the price I'm paying for CHSN, I should get all of the games. Guess I'll go ahead and kick the Bulls streams to the curb since they suck again. That'll make my CHSN app $10 less a month. ETA: My plan renews tomorrow. Impossible to figure out how to change the subscription so I had to contact customer support. Arghh.
  4. Devonte Wyatt got injured in the Lions game and is out for the season. That's a big blow to their defensive line, which should be good for the run game. I'm going into this game with the same confidence I feel like the players are going to have. Ben will get them pumped and then they just need a good sustained drive early to dominate the Packers on their own turf. Hope they get some LB's back for Sunday.
  5. Dreadful contract. 1 sack and one other tackle on the season coupled with 2 QB hits for 8m this year, and 20m each of the next two years. Jarrett and Jaylon are each getting 12m raises for next year, also. That's 36m in increased payroll for 3 guys. You got another 6m going to the two QB's in raises. DJ is getting a 3.5m raise. Jonah is getting a 3.5m raise. Thuney is getting a 13m raise. and Kyler is getting about 8.5m in raises. Then lots of 1m raises for your youngsters and roster fodder. Bates, Braxton, Swift, Byard, Billings are places you can cut some salary, but Edmonds is the only one with any significance. Poles is going to need to do some serious contract restructuring. Or let's hope the NFL increases the cap by 50m. LOL People are always saying there are ways to work around the cap. Well, Poles is going to have to do exactly that this coming year.
  6. Are you saying bring Edmunds back? With the increase in salaries to so many players, I see Edmunds as the most likely casualty. I'm all for bringing back as many guys as possible, but a lot of contracts need to be reworked to make everyone fit for next year. Edmunds frees up close to 15m. Edwards, Sewell with Hippolyte and D'Marco Jackson or Ogbongbemiga might be all you need at LB if you spruce up the DL. Jaylon Jones and Terrel Smith potentially back next year saves some dollars. Billings probably won't be back. Brisker should get extended.
  7. Bedard with 2 goals, 2 assists and dropping gloves at 0:00 is kinda fun.
  8. No doubt. That's why I mentioned a few pages back that some of Poles disasters were so disastrous that they ended up becoming great. Don't know if Poles hired Eberflus, but he does take credit for it, and if it's Dan Quinn, maybe Quinn doesn't hose the 2024 season as badly as Eberflus did. End result is Ben Johnson.
  9. I nearly posted the same thing yesterday. Winning gets people's attention. Players want to play on teams that have a bright future with great coaching. Seeing all the videos out there of Ben's after game pep talks have to be enticing to a guy looking for a team. My concern is how they figure out a way to add talent this offseason. It's way too early to talk next year, but the raises to Jonah Jackson, Dayo Odeyingbo, Grady Jarrett and Jaylon Johnson in 2026 is beyond significant. While I feel like Swift may have earned his final year of his contract, I don't see how that's even remotely possible with the cap crunch this team will be up against next year. Same with maybe bringing Byard back on another one year deal. Sure hope some of these guys are willing to rework their contracts. There aren't many cuts after Edmunds and Swift that give them significant cap space.
  10. I don't find that to be true. To me, they are already playing with house money. Most didn't even predict 9 wins, let alone anything they get beyond that. I was on the edge of my seat for the Eagles game, but I have also tempered my emotions on 3 and outs, points given up, etc.... It's different than expecting wins. The wins are just a wonderful surprise in this process of watching Ben move this franchise in the right direction.
  11. Seems a bit early to write off Shemar Turner.
  12. I always tried to find the good in what Poles was trying to do. I did a lot of research to try to figure out if he actually was involved in the hiring process for Eberflus or not, but there just isn't much out there. If he is admitting he did, he might be protecting the higher ups that actually did do the hiring. According to records, Ryan Poles was officially hired on January 25th, and Eberflus was hired on January 27th. First time GM hiring his head coach in day 3? I'll admit I know nothing of the entire process and maybe some of the interview is how you interview coaching candidates, so maybe Poles had some meeting time with coaches before his official hire. I'd say at best, Poles had his choice of Jim Caldwell, Dan Quinn or Eberflus. Even that isn't really getting to bring in the guy "you want". Maybe a first year GM doesn't warrant that kind of respect. I'll just say that while I was a fan of his hiring based on his pedigree, and I soured on him when everything he tried to do was backfiring, and I'm of course back to ecstatic about what he's accomplishing now. There were definitely times I was an apologist moreso than others here for some of his head scratching moves. I never did hate the Claypool trade. I thought the guy could legit help this roster, but the dude truly was a headcase.
  13. No idea why all of these graphics ignore Tory Taylor. Granted, he's nothing special at this point, but he was a product of this trade.
  14. While DJ was the the legit playmaker, they were already getting picks for the McCaffrey trade. So they were getting 3 picks within the first 4 rounds of the '23 draft for that trade. they finished 7-10 (including 5-4 to end the season) in 2022 and were also getting the top pick in the draft with the Bears trade. The preseason predictions for the Panthers in 2023 was between 5 and 7 wins, and that was after they drafted Young. At the time of the trade, those predictions may have been better with a better veteran QB leading the way. I'm just saying no one expected the Panthers to be a 2 win team, and it took a miracle play at the end of the season to make them the first pick in the draft for the Bears.
  15. I had something similar about Poles typed up yesterday and deleted it. His tenure has been littered with fireable type moves. Some were decent looking gambles that just didn't work out. Some were just so plain rotten, that you couldn't possibly find any good in it, unless you squint and see that the failure decision worked out so bad that it worked out so good. The trade down with Carolina was brilliant, even if you don't end up with Caleb. Who could have ever imagined that Carolina would be the worst team in the league? On paper, I don't think they were expected to be that bad. And Lovie Smith played his part in making the magic happen on that, too. Eberflus being so bad with Caleb and this roster that he gets fired, the replacement guys get fired and Ben Johnson sees immediate success if he jumps ship. From losing games by Hail Mary to 9-3, and two of those losses were also winnable. I remember how dejected I was after that first game loss to Minny. That seems so long ago now since Ben put a jinx on late game losses. If Poles doesn't make that trade with Carolina, he might just be unemployed right now. Instead, we are discussing him in GM of the Year chances. He hired Ben, and made the moves to fix the OLine and this offense is really starting to take form.
  16. I have to disagree with you here. By kicking the extra point, you are down just one score. Defense is fired up to make a stop, momentum is still in your favor. Going for 2 and failing makes it a two score game. Defense is now mentally out of it. Not to mention, it has to be frustrating to watch what's left of your fanbase racing for the exits. I'd also add that Phily can probably count on getting into the endzone pretty easily with the tush push from the 2, so saving it for later would also potentially have a more tired Bear defense attempting to defend there. I thought it was a stupid decision to go for 2 there.
  17. Swift and Monangai came out after the game together sporting nothing up top besides a Tshirt to do an interview, and if you didn't know who they were and were asked to tell you what position they played, LB would have been your only answer. Both of those guys are solid muscle and hulked up.
  18. This game thread was a tough read. I don't go outside when it's this cold and there are 35 MPH gusts, and half of this game thread is bashing Caleb's accuracy. Anybody see that field goal attempt by Phily? Looked like a few of those pass plays. Then you have a guy getting mad at Ben Johnson for having Caleb try one downfield on 2nd and 1, with the argument of just running it for a first down. Ben certainly didn't invent going for a big play on 2nd and 1, but it's absolutely the time to do it, because 3rd and 1 or even 4th and 1 is kind of an easy play. Can Caleb be more accurate? Sure. It might be the only thing he has left to improve in Ben's offense. But haters on a blustery day need to take a pill. Me? I'm already imagining some stud level DE's wanting to be a part of this team next year and if not, fine, we will draft a bunch of them. I just can't get over the fact this D only gave up 14 points with so many players missing on D. They didn't let Saquon beat them. They didn't let Hurts beat them. I'm not sure Bigsby even saw the field. 2 more turnovers. So much to love.
  19. Caleb probably just felt like he could shake him like he's been successfully doing more often than not. He got burned on that one, which is a learning experience. It shouldn't happen, but I forgive him since he didn't let a stupid play define him on this day.
  20. I don't see the DC going anywhere next year. He just had a HC gig that didn't go so well, so maybe the Bears can keep this unit together for awhile.
  21. I'm pretty sure Tory Taylor should be included in the Bears side of the trade.
  22. 50 three point attempts in a game seems like a lot.
  23. Trivia Time- What year is it? Tyrod Taylor, Jacoby Brissett, Joe Flacco, Kirk Cousins, Jameis Winston, Geno Smith, Daniel Jones, Matthew Stafford and Teddy Bridgewater are all under Center, and Aaron Rodgers would have played if he wasn't injured. Crazy that these guys are all taking snaps in 2025.
  24. The way Blankenship was behaving on the sideline didn't appear as someone who would be ready to play again on Friday. So that's possibly 3 starters from their backfield on D that could be missing.
