    End of the day, Jed clearly doesn't have a stack of pre-signed checks waiting for him to just fill in the blanks. He has to operate within the budget PTR dictates. What we are seeing is exactly that, IMO. What do we think the Cubs best offer for Tucker might have been while they had exclusive negotiating rights? Wonder how far off that number will be once he finally signs with someone? Sign Tucker and trade for a SP while keeping it below the LT and call it an offseason.

    A late 20's 2026 first rounder isn't going to get it done. It's also going to take some serious cap ingenuity to figure out a way to add someone like Crosby to the roster when they are already going to be over the cap without Crosby and several free agents walking. I'd be even more concerned about how they manage the cap after 2026 with someone like Crosby on the roster. I'm more concerned with maintaining a high level offense than defense. This video below gives a nice explanation of how they can maneuver around the cap issues and build through the draft. Obviously, this is just one guy's take of how the offseason might unfold, but I'd be pretty happy if he nailed his proposal.

    It's pretty amazing to me that they had a whole season to woo Kyle Tucker into a long term contract while he played for them, and he's more likely to play somewhere else this year while the Cubs worry about how many free agents they might end up with after 2026. When you look at each of the contracts that are about to expire at the end of 2026 and then look at Kyle Tucker, who would you prefer to have the most of all of those names? Not only are they not going to lock up Tucker, but they are going to let most of those other guys walk next year as well. I don't have a problem with them letting most of those guys walk, but not making an honest effort for Tucker will be unforgiveable.

    They have Boyd, Imanaga, Taillon, Horton and Rea that can pencil in as your MLB caliber SP. That's 5 right there without counting Steele eventually coming back. Rea is probably not what you want taking every 5th spot in the rotation, but he is capable of giving you league average production in that spot. They still have Brown, Wicks and Assad. They don't need to start the season with another starter. They could potentially wait it out with what they have and then decide at the trade deadline who is worth giving key starts to this potential and likely playoff team. Not saying they should do that, but I wouldn't rule it out that it's what their thinking. Make a run at a guy like Imai and if they don't like the price tag, sit back and wait for the right deal or wait until the trade deadline. This team is likely giving a run for the division as is. How it looks come playoff time could be different and should be different if they are serious about winning.

    Bullpen and the bench is the only place that absolutely needed upgrades. They could certainly use a SP and possibly one more starter on offense, but those are more luxuries than absolute needs. I think they will add a SP, but I'm not expecting many more moves outside of that.

    Edwin Diaz will make 17m this year and 26m each of the next two years after that. To fill your bullpen up on less than what LAD's closer will average over the next three years seems reasonable.

    This is probably the most likely scenario. Alcantara and either one of those guys would be a decent enough option to DH/RF. One of Mo or Caissie won't be here in 2026, unless they work a trade for a starter that can keep one of them in AAA. But who is traded for pitching if Shaw doesn't go anywhere? Have to assume one of those two guys will be the key element in bringing in a SP. Games against lefties will be Austin and Alcantara getting at bats. Alcantara's ability to play CF makes him the perfect 4th OF this year.

    I'm with you, Raw. Atlanta was playing for nothing against the Rams on Monday night. But they weren't supposed to really be playing for anything. That's different than being expected to be a top team and falling to last place. Detroit was supposed to win their division and go to the Super Bowl last year and this year. Their window is closing and they have nothing to play for Sunday. I don't think you'll see the fire in Detroit's players. It's not the Bears fault they aren't going to the playoffs. It's not Ben's fault, either. Ben stayed in Detroit longer than he should have. It's natural for coaches to get promotions, so you wish them well and move on. Campbell had his revenge game earlier this year, and I seriously doubt there is a rift between Ben and Dan, or that they want there to be a rift. Dan is going to give a fire-y speech to try to get his players inspired to win in Chicago, but I'm marking this one down as a Bears win on Sunday. The blitz completely kills Detroit's ability to move the ball. We don't blitz much, but I think they will be bringing them on Sunday in that cold air.

    You absolutely play to win on Sunday vs. the Lions. This is an amazingly balanced playoff bracket, no matter how it plays out. A #2 seed could end up with 3 home games and playing any of Seattle, SF, LAR, Car/TB at home in January is an advantage you want. Absolutely loved the offense last night. The pass rush was frustrating as hell. Other than the Booker sack, I don't think anyone ever actually touched Purdy all night, let alone tackle him.

    What's with the labeling? Who the hell cares who is #1. We have an amazing and YOUNG receiver room. Enjoy them all equally.

    That Packer DB looked like a bad injury in the end zone. Surprised the commentary hasn’t said a word about it.

    He was great in preseason. I think he easily replaces Zaccheaus starting next year. I think he definitely showed enough last week to get some targets this week. It's going to be an air show Sunday night.

    Not sure if it will be popular here, but I have to say Tom Brady is pretty good in the broadcast booth. Hated him as a player, but respected what he accomplished. Thought for sure I'd despise him as a color commentator.

    Ah yes. The Curious Case of Brandon Aiyuk..... Probably shouldn't even bother putting his mug on a milk carton. I believe his days in SF are over.

    Scoring points in 23 straight quarters (and counting) is pretty good.

    They come at you from so many directions. The good news is their defense didn't look good at all. Rivers didn't have the arm strength to make some of the necessary throws to keep their offense on the field. Guys were plenty open, though. However, the SF defense didn't let Jonathan Taylor have anything. Indy averaged less than 3 yards a carry. Caleb will need to throw and throw often. Indy looked like they had the offense to trade scores with them, but once they fell behind, it was pretty much over. They just couldn't stop the SF offensive explosiveness. I'm not sure the Bears defense can, either. Which is why they will need to be in the mindset of scoring a td on every drive. I'm not picking the Bears to win this one. But I want more than anything to be proven wrong. Keep winning, dammit! I want some cold ass playoff games in Soldier Field in January.

    No clue what the issue was with the officials on that play. If it was OPI, you enforce the penalty and it's game over. Pretty simple. I assumed they were going to call DPI, which then creates a confusing situation of how to rule the end of that play. If it was OPI, what the hell were they confused about? Games not ending on a penalty is only on defensive penalties.

    San Fran is in the driver's seat for the #1 seed. If they win out, they get it. Their offense is firing on all cylinders right now. Really hoping for a loss tonight to kill that dream for them, but old man Rivers and the beat up Indy defense is probably not the team to make that happen.
