I'm guessing this thread has run its course. Tossing Glendon Rusch, the gas can lefty that he is, out on the mound against an almost all righty, power hitting team like Detroit with the wind blowing out, who couldn't predict how that would turn out? Angel Guzman, the clear cut, obvious choice to for the Friday start pitched quite well. Dusty should be fired today. Inexcusable stupidity. Plain and simple. And then Hendry and MacPhail should fire themselves.
So his point on this team is? Honestly, what is it? SOMEBODY TELL ME! I think he and Dusty have buttsecks. That is the only explanation for Dusty EVER letting him throw a pitch in the major leagues. Let's please keep it clean. This is a family site.
I don't wish to expand on this particular quote, though I wouldn't rule it out, entirely. But, has anyone noticed how much better the Cubs are this year now that their day schedule workload is much lighter? Remember that excuse?
I may be way off base here, although I doubt it, but I have this feeling that if Miguel Cabrera came up through the Cubs organization, he'd still be in the minors. Or at best, he would be a platoon partner with the great Freddy Bynum. FIRE THEM ALL! And I have another idea. Instead of spending 4m on a manager, spend 1m instead, and spend the other 3m on scouting in the DR, Venezuela and Japan. Just a thought.
1-0? Okay, let's review what we know....... 25 MPH winds blowing out Gas can lefty on the hill Power hitting, all righty hitting team facing gas can lefty Cubs playing on WGN 1-0? I'll take that bet. :D
Pudge, Shelton, Maggs, Thames, Monroe, Guillen, Polanco, Inge and Infante, all RH hitters that are already salivating over the thought of facing Rusch on Friday. To say that this is like pouring gasoline on a bonfire is a huge understatement.
Seems to me Murton's deflated numbers coincide with the time Baker told Murton he was too patient and needed to be more aggressive. He definitely isn't the same guy I remember at the plate prior to that conversation. Would Murton be struggling against RHP if Cubs management wasn't constantly sitting him against RHP for a much less desirable replacement? Would he be struggling this badly if he was just left alone to do what got him here in the first place? Luckily, there are a lot of lefties in the NL Central, otherwise Bynum would be the guy getting 3/4 of the starts in LF with this platoon. Ah, what do I care. I want them to fail now. It's the only thing that will potentially put a stop to this madness.
If I would have went with Bonderman instead of Madson and his two starts this week, I'd have 5 quality starts in 5 outings, with 4 more starts yet to go against: Cubs vs. Verlander (likely without Barrett) Ervin Santana hosting Padres Blanton hosting LAD Nationals hosting Wang Instead, I'll have Madson facing the D'Rays for a 5th start this weekend. If I'm not in the high 300s by Sunday night, I'll be shocked. And is Glendon Rusch really starting against the Tigers? All of their righty hitters should have a field day in that game. Oh my.
I don't have the stats for games he starts, but I can provide a win/loss record in games where he batted more than once. 9 wins, 19 losses. Neifi's contribution in games they've won with him having more than 2 at bats in games they won? 6 hits in 34 at bats, or a .176 AVG. They won in spite of his presence. 4 of his 6 hits in games they won came in the first two games. Since then, he has gone 2-27 in games they won. For the record, I don't want Cedeno in the 2 spot either. Walker and Murton should be batting 1/2.
Man, could they be any more flagrant about it? I have a suggestion. Maybe whoever is batting when Riske comes into the game should just go ahead and charge the mound before the first pitch is ever thrown. Why wait for the pitcher to instigate the inevitable? Maybe they should call up some scrub that's very large and could crush Riske's skull with his bare hands and then have that guy stand at the plate and yell at Riske to throw at him, because he's ready to retaliate. Nah, I have a better idea. When Riske hits whoever it is batting, the hitter could turn around and just deck AJ Pierzinski again. See, I'm full of brilliant ideas. Edited to add:
Umm. No. You didn't. I think what you did is provide circumstantial evidence that will find the defendant innocent, and the murderer will walk. I hope your happy. :P
That's only one of Hendry's many faults. Another fault is not recognizing the need to have depth on the roster. Another fault is not recognizing the important positions of need during the offseason. Another fault is how he devalues his players, rendering them worthless in trade. Another fault is how he could allow the man he hired to keep trotting the worst possible line up cards out to the umpires before every game. Another fault is how he masks the injuries on this team. Another fault is how he masks the true problems of this team and makes ridiculous excuses for why this team sucks. Other than that, he's awesome.
