  1. I mentioned it to you in DM earlier, but if you need a guy, I can do it. I've been on vacation/work travel since July 31st and won't be checking in much until I get back August 22nd. Now that I'm in Vegas for these last two weeks, I will have more computer time, so I should be online more than the zero I've been on since the 31st.
  2. I have no qualms with extending DJ. He's deserving of what he got. Poles thinks he can make that contract fit with his roster going forward, so I'm super cool with seeing him here for the next several years along side Odunze. Allen has been missing enough games each season that he's a risk to extend. He's also not worth the $25m per year, at his age and the games he isn't playing, that he is likely expecting since he's making what, $23m this year? With all of the other playmakers on this roster, Allen likely won't have gaudy enough numbers to warrant that big contract anyway. Maybe Tyler Scott becomes a serviceable #3 WR or they find a good one in the draft. Scott might be better than what we've seen given Fields' inadequacies as a starting QB. I think the same thing about the OLine. How good might they be with a QB willing to get rid of the ball or hit targets sooner. The going backwards/fumble guy made it hard for the OLine to look good the last few years.
  3. Welcome! While it's never fun trading prospects, these were not top prospects by any means, and the Cubs will still need to move more of them before the deadline or this coming offseason or risk losing them in the Rule 5 draft. Can't protect them all and there may not be a lot of room on the big league roster in 2025.
  4. Caruso was about the only guy watchable on this roster last year. Well, I like Drummond, too.
  5. I gave it until the OLine was healthy this past year and that's when I knew he just wasn't a starting NFL QB. With the trade, I still had concerns I was wrong, and DJ Moore and other teammates sticking up for Fields made me nervous that I was wrong. But, with each passing article or story, I'm sure glad they moved on. Sucks they only got a 6th rounder for him, but given the brilliance of the first round trade that netted so much talent, I can live with it.
  6. Good morning, masochists. I have to tip my hat to you all for sticking out this painful season. I had to stop watching several weeks ago. Sad to see they are still the same team I quit watching. Maybe today is when they turn things around. I still read the game threads on occasion and my phone notifies me about all of the losses the Cubs are piling up, usually of the one run variety. Good to see there's still some crazy talk going on here, like moving Assad to the bullpen. Yeah, that's how you reward a guy for doing his job well, Demote him.
  7. Not at all. Other than the deer that practically walk right up to you as they eat the delicious fairway rough, it was my least favorite course of the 4 we played over 3 days in Monterey. We played Pebble Beach the first day we got there. Woke up the next morning and played Spanish Bay (stayed at Spanish Bay Resort), then came back to the room, showered in the most awesome shower of all time. Was refreshed to play Del Monte. Then played Spyglass Hill the next morning. Most golf I've ever played in a 36 hour span. Spanish Bay was way better than Spyglass, IMO. It was a dream trip, though. I think Del Monte is the oldest course in continuous operation west of the Mississippi. Built in 1896.
  8. I played Spyglass Hill and the greens were like that. Flag on one hole was on a false front. I was a two foot putt away from the cup across the slope. I gave it a bit of an angle to account for the slope, and the ball went around the hole on the top side and proceeded to roll down the green and about 30 feet off the green. I literally tapped the putt with the power to roll not much more than 2 feet. It rolled an easy 40-45 feet. If you aren't below the hole on your approach, you are SOL.
  9. Saint or sinner, she is bringing people to the arenas at a level that games have to be moved to bigger venues.. That's a good thing for their sport and their own future pocketbooks. Fair or not, she was doing things in college basketball that drew a lot of interest and she can be a gateway for bringing WNBA and all of its benefactors to a more financial windfall. More tv time. More advertising dollars. More endorsements as more ladies start getting more well known. But, getting well known has to be for the good reasons. Flagrant fouls that injure Caitlin and make her miss games is not good for the league. It's fine to give her some rookie lumps or "welcome to the league", but the jealousy or hatred that it's her and not "you" is not a good look. The flagrant foul wasn't a good look, but Angel Reese high fiving her teammates from the bench after that flagrant foul and then hugging the player that did it right after she did it is bad for business. But yeah, her teammates need to have her back.
  10. Probably a good thing those games are after the trade deadline. Maybe the White Sox will be playing their 2024 draft picks in August.
  11. The part after his comma kinda made it obvious it was sarcasm.
  12. Waldron runs the same offensive system that Brady, the Manning boys and Drew Brees ran, just to name a few. It's a less complicated system than the previous regime was trying to teach, which also seemed to confuse most of the players. I think this will be what makes them a playoff team in year one of the Caleb years. Simplify the playbook/offense to a system that produces results and provide weapons at all of the skill positions. Couple that with a solid defense and winning early can instill a lot of confidence in the rookie QB. I'm not concerned about the distractions of Hard Knocks. There are already tons of distractions in preseason camp anyway. I'm actually looking forward to watching it. I'm already a huge homer before every season, and this season will be worse than the others.
  13. And Shota gets his chance today. I turned last night's game off after the 3 strike out first inning. However, I turned it back on just after the injury play.
  14. It may be awhile before I watch again. I tuned in while the Cubs were batting in the 7th and couldn't get past one hitter before moving on. They will be fun to watch again, but not right now. It makes me sad to see great pitching result in a loss or a no decision. Some of these starters deserve much better.
  15. How much warm up time did he have before the game was called? Maybe that impacted the decision.
  16. I read that there was a considerable drop off in talent after the top 15-20, so moving up a few spaces could put them in a better position to get one before the drop off.
  17. After yesterday's game, if they do anything other than send Mastro down, people will lose their minds. That last throw to 1b was it for me. You can't suck this bad and then make that throw at a time when the team is struggling. Bye Miles!
  18. I agree that with a decent season, he opts out and attempts to get that long term deal, as time will be running out with his prime years soon to be behind him.
  19. Look at the list of pitchers he's faced during his time here so far. He could actually do even better.
  20. Doesn't have to be 1b. It could be RF or LF if they trade Happ. Bellinger is a better fielder than Happ or Suzuki.
  21. I find myself watching the starters pitch, then finding something else to watch once they are pulled.
  22. A more aggressive running game will lead to more outs on the base paths. However, it has also led to more runs scored that may not have otherwise. I wouldn't be concerned about leading the league in outs on the base paths if they end up on the winning side of games more often than the losing side. And I wouldn't say these running gaffes are the reason they aren't leading the division. That honor belongs to the bullpen.
  23. Can we at least wait until we've had back to back days of nice weather before fast forwarding to the Fall?
  24. Having the envisioned roster in place is what helped put them in first place. Getting Suzuki back along with now having Bellinger back should help the situation. I don't think either of the guys you named were real possibilities for the Cubs. I'd go as far as to say that Ohtani wasn't a possibility at all. Soto was going to be a one year rental, and I'll take Bellinger and Shota over that one year of Soto all day long. Of course, that's hindsight, but don't think the Cubs wanted to cough up the farm for Soto.
