  1. The Giants are going young. Young? How about a younger version of old? Durham and Aurilia are not spring chickens.
  2. Izturis at SS or Sexson at SS......Hmmmm. I'll take Sexson.
  3. Lee looks way more athletic than Richie Sexson.
  4. Now there's a team going places. Rich Aurilia, Ray Durham, Bengie Molina, while letting Alou, Bonds and Schmidt walk. Hurray for beer! Giants fans are gonna need it.
  5. I'm going to answer this as truthfully as possible. The Bears defense definitely has some weaknesses. However, most of their weaknesses take place between the 30's. Between the 30's, the Bears give up yardage. Their pass rush isn't what it should be these days. In the red zone, the Bears are still one of the best, if not the best, in the league. The Bears coughed up 4 turnovers in the first half, yet the defense gave up a mere 3 points off those turnovers. Stellar considering. Rex was horrible yesterday. I saw Kyle Orton play better than that, and Orton was horrible. To have as many weapons as Grossman has and play that miserably makes it even worse that he has such a bad day. He's got 4 respectable to excellent receivers in Moose, Berrian, Davis and Bradley. He's got a TE that can catch the ball. He's got running backs that found holes that should have opened up the passing game, but Rex just didn't have it. I was all in favor of letting Griese get some snaps yesterday. The Bears defense didn't allow the Vikings to score with good field position on many occasions. They were the better defense yesterday.
  6. IBL! But, just barely. :D
  7. I, for one, don't mind this method too much. If you miss something in a 40-page thread it's hard to get caught up. Well, it's a concise 11 in premium format. hmmm . . . so Premium hides the worthless comments? :D Yes! Sign up today! :D
  8. Texas ought to just spend the money they have saved up for Zito on a construction company to move the fences out in Arlington.
  9. Nothing to see here folks, move along. Oh, and sign Jason Schmidt!
  10. Because Jacque Jones cannot hit lefties? If Soriano was at 2b and in a dream world far away, JD Drew was signed to play CF, would a platoon of Jacque Jones/Mark DeRosa not make sense? Between the two of them, they'll make approximately 9m. If for 9m, I see: .342 .394 .589 .983 (DeRosa) .303 .358 .528 .886 (Jones) production out of RF, I can't say I would complain. The combined production of those two would match or quite possibly be cheaper than any single player who could provide that type of production (outside of the top young players in the league that haven't gotten their big payday yet and are usually not available). Even better, is the fact one of them makes for a very decent guy coming off the bench in games the other guy started. It's bench depth besides being called a platoon.
  11. The move from the AL East bashers to the hitter friendliest division in baseball scares me. Wrigley is fairly neutral, for the most part, but Busch, PNC, Minute Maid, GAP and Miller all are good parks to hit in, which is where most of Lilly's starts will be when he isn't pitching at home. I think I like Lilly more than some of the other options out there, but I'm not so sure we can expect him to much better than what he accomplished in the AL East.
  12. Colorado was able to move Hampton. The list goes on of bad contract pitchers (and it's not even a safe argument that Schmidt would be a bad contract for year 4 at this point) that were moved. But, if a team can throw 8 years at a position player, why can't they throw 4 years at the premium free agent starter on the market?
  13. If they are considering selling the team anyway, what does another year on Schmidt's contract matter? Lilly at 4 years is a bigger gamble than Schmidt at 4 years, IMO. And teams can move a guy they wish to part with. The Yankees moved Javier Vazquez. They can probably even move Pavano this offseason. Just do it. Sign Schmidt! Refresh my memory...were the Yanks able to move Kevin Brown when he broke down? Again, I'm not in favor of Lilly. And I'd think seriously about Schmidt. It was the Dodgers that were able to move Kevin Brown, actually. Brown was just plain done with the Yankees, if I recall correctly. Brown was 38 when the Dodgers traded him.
  14. Would you trade them along with say, Cedeno or Izturis, for Miguel Tejada? Probably. Soriano Murton Lee Ramirez Tejada Jones Barrett DeRosa would be the best lineup in the division and probably in the NL. Still like the Mets line up more.
  15. If they are considering selling the team anyway, what does another year on Schmidt's contract matter? Lilly at 4 years is a bigger gamble than Schmidt at 4 years, IMO. 16. Can we dangle Izturis too, please? Oh, and welcome to NSBB!
  17. Who exactly exposed to the world that Sammy left the clubhouse early? Hmmmm. As well they should have. Bottom line is that he left, it all goes back to Sammy's actions regardless of what the Cubs do or don't say. You think it's a good idea to completely destroy a guy's trade value by exposing a dumb move on a player's part, that's you opinion. It certainly isn't mine. It would have been much better to handle the situation privately, and then traded his ass to another team for decent value in return, meanwhile not paying almost his entire salary to play elsewhere. I'm really done with this argument. It has nothing to do with the Winter Meetings.
  18. Who exactly exposed to the world that Sammy left the clubhouse early? Hmmmm. I'll bet that Sammy isn't the first guy to walk out of a club house early. While it is very unprofessional of Sammy to walk out, a front office that would play the same game is even more unprofessional.
  19. Lilly probably shouldn't make anymore than 8m per. Overpay Lilly by 3m a year or overpay Jason Schmidt by 3m per? Schmidt, all day long.
  20. I will admit, just about every time I see this thread title, I think about the Vlady, Beltran, Drew, Tejada, Giles signings that the Cubs didn't make and think that's what this thread is about, making amends on all the stupid signings and trades like Burnitz, Neifi, Glendon and Pierre, but no..... It's all about the Merck.
  21. QFT This thread sucks more than the Radke thread. Nice try, but not quite. :D
  22. Yeah, I'd much rather be discussing new deals than reminisce about old, crappy deals. :D
  23. If you wish to use hindsight in viewing trades, I suppose I could see where you miss the robbery. I admit that the Cubs front office is more to blame for these deals than the Orioles. They couldn't have reduced the value of the those two players any more than they did prior to their trades. Whhat else should you use besides hindsight? Isn't that how all trades are ultimately judged? Corey Patterson reduced his own value, the Cubs didn't have to do anymore. Same with Sosa. Neither deal should have been made. Period. They were better off keeping them than giving them away for next to nothing. Patterson on our bench last year instead of Bynum or Pagan would be better than trading him for the two prospects that will never amount to anything. Sosa could have netted someone like Cliff Floyd if the front office didn't do everything possible to destroy his image. Besides ruining his trade value, he also pounced on a crappy offer just to be out from under the Sosa deal.
