  1. Haha. The title of this thread made me think of Romi and Michelle's high school reunion.
  2. Tampa is famous for asking for the world. Tampa is famous for not caving in on their demands. If the Cubs want Crawford, I'm worried about what the Cubs will give up to get him. Considering how friendly Hendry is with his players (see Maddux for Izturis, 3 prospects for Pierre, 3 prospects for Tracshel and Jacque Jones for Omar Infante to name just a few), we need to stay very worried about this. What happened to the love affair they were having this offseason about making a big splash in the Japan market? After getting scared by that trade proposal, I'm sold on Fukudome.
  3. And while I'm on a role, I predict Jones will be platooning in LF before the end of the first month of the 2008 season. Detroit has too many decent RH bats to allow Jacque Jones to hit against a LHP.
  4. But, that just makes Hendry that much more of an idiot to make such a horrible trade just to do a guy a favor. If the contract didn't say anything about playing everyday, you play out the contract you signed and YOU LIKE IT.
  5. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. I rest my case.
  6. I guess the threat to drive to Chicago and kick some ass did some good.
  7. Always wondered that myself. How much has Lowell's VORP improved by playing in an all star line up like Boston compared to Florida?
  8. Arod's agent is the best agent in the world at doing what an agent is paid to do You are correct. However, that doesn't change the fact he is the very definition of cancer. :D
  9. Maybe Jaxx is confused with ARod and ARod's agent. ARod's agent is a cancer.
  10. If this ends up being the deal, I'm driving my car to Chicago and kicking someone's ass.
  11. It's not really that Lou preferred Floyd over Murton. It's that he preferred a left handed bat over Murton. Cubs management views Matt Murton's bat as redundant. They've made the point over and over by saying they want more left handed bats in the line up. The Cubs offense is stacked with RH bats. Lee, Ramirez, Soriano, DeRosa and Soto guarantees you at least 5 RH bats of the 8 offensive slots. Theriot makes 6 and Murton playing everyday would make 7. That's why the Cubs are looking at Fukudome and Crawford. Murton will either hold on to a 4th outfield job or he'll find a new home somewhere else. He's just not in the Cubs plans due to the dominant right handed hitting attack. It's a shame, but that's what's going on with Matt Murton.
  12. That was my thought. Stop at #2. Although I'd probably be happy as a clam if we stopped after #1.
  13. If Gagne can hit .290/.375/.450 and play SS, I'd be all over that. Greg Gagne? No. Verne Gagne
  14. If Gagne can hit .290/.375/.450 and play SS, I'd be all over that.
  15. I think just about any free agent that bats right handed is probably at the very bottom of Hendry's wish list.
  16. I think Pie will be fine in CF. If for some reason he bombs, I like some of the options on the farm. I'm really impressed with what Sam Fuld is doing this winter. EPatt and Colvin gives the Cubs even more depth.
  17. Jones and Hunter will be getting 5+ years wherever they sign. The Cubs shouldn't go anywhere near that with those players. Due to the lack of talent on the market, not only will these guys get lots of years, but they will likely also receive too much money. I'm fine with Pie. The Cubs need to upgrade SS and RF.
  18. Aren't we still waiting for the PTBNL for Izturis?
  19. Well no, I don't expect him to say that either. That would be a little extreme. I didn't think lowering fan expectations is a good thing. Are you saying it's good for Hendry to head off the booing because we're sure to suck? Why are we apparently not considering real improvements at the position? Maybe Jim should just come clean and tell us he can't get any money for improvements right now, so he'll do the best he can but don't expect too much in '08. That's the underlying message I'm getting, wouldn't you agree that's the way it's shaping up? I personally don't mind handing CF to Pie and setting appropriate expectations for what he will do in 2008. I would upgrade the team at RF and SS and let Pie play. But that's me. Agreed. ARod at SS, Fukudome in RF and Pie in CF. Nice offseason! Fukudome DeRosa Lee ARod Ramirez Soriano Pie Soto A bench of anyone, anyone, who cares and everyone else and this team is a lock down to make the playoffs. Mark Cuban happily purchases the Cubs.
  20. Hate to rain on your parade, but if we trade Monroe for Punto, they can't both be in our lineup. Well hopefully the trade will be Aramis Ramirez and Derrek Lee for Nick Punto and Justin Morneau.
  21. Ernstad is available. Sound out that line up and tell me how Erstad fits in with that team? If his nickname is the Spearmint Rhino, he's in. Marco Scutaro would get the job done.
  22. Punto would be perfect. LF Soriano CF Cedeno RF Monroe 3b Punto SS Theriot 2b Fontenot 1b C Soto P Ohman Clearly, we need a new 1b who fits the mold. Joey Votto would get it done.
  23. I think that's the way Hendry is going to go. That's a lot of money spent this offseason. I'm going to have to disagree.
  24. Braun's NL Roy award will look real nice next to his GG award.
