  1. Agreed. I wonder if Lou has any input on this? Ain't no way I'm giving you a quarter if Monroe is dealt. I don't consider that "something bigger".
  2. Maybe that would be enough to get Peavy? The Yankees offered Melky Cabrera and Phil Hughes.
  3. I hope we get another crappy utility infielder. Can never have enough of those.
  4. Meh, I didn't like ARod much with Seattle and I didn't like him much with Texas. I absolutely hated him when he was on the Yankees. If he were somehow signed to play for the Cubs? He'd become my favorite player in the game.
  5. Just from quoting others in this thread, they say he doesn't have the arm to play SS. Of course, neither does Ryan Theriot. True, but I'm not panning for either of them to be the starting SS on opening day.
  6. Just from quoting others in this thread, they say he doesn't have the arm to play SS.
  7. In what universe do you trade a starting outfielder for a utility player and then turn around and non tender the utility player?
  8. Production-wise, you are correct. Perception-wise, his value today couldn't have been any lower. Every team in the league knew Hendry wanted to move Jones. Why offer something good when he might accept something bad? Kind of like he just did.
  9. Not necessarily. I'm not convinced that trading for Infante means that Matsui talks are dead.
  10. The teams who lost out on the Fukudome sweepstakes could have interest in Jones. And if you can't get anymore value than Infante, you might as well just keep Jones. An outfielder could get hurt in ST, increasing Jone's trade value. Hendry just traded a guy who's value couldn't be any lower. He's famous for that. I really don't understand it, other than Hendry felt he owed it to an unhappy player to move him.
  11. Why? Did the Red Sox win with versatility? No. Boston didn't trade a starting pitcher (Maddux) or a starting OF (Jones) for their utility infielder though. They traded a crappy utility infielder for a crappy utility infielder. (Ramon Vasquez for Alex Cora).
  12. I'm not so sure it's a salary dump. I still think it's Hendry doing Jacque the favor of trading him. Why make this move before free agents are even eligible to be signed? Couldn't Jacque's trade value increase once the biggest free agent losers look to fill their outfield holes? Couldn't the smaller market teams find interest in a guy in the last year of his contract over signing a similar guy to a 3 or 4 year contract? Why trade a guy from a position of weakness compared to trading him from a position of strength? If the Cubs already had Fukudome signed, then you consider trading Jones, not the other way around. Jones made for a decent back up plan if they didn't find an improvement over Jones. Edit: I typed this up before reading the latest info about the Cubs paying part of Jone's contract.
  13. I think there is a zero chance that the Cubs open 2008 with an outfield of Soriano, Pie and Murton.
  14. Other rumored possibilities have been Carl Crawford, Milton Bradley, Jose Guillen and probably a couple of other guys I forgot about.
  15. No. The crappy Omar Infante will probably get 2m in arby.
  16. I wish I could be as optimistic, Hoops, but I think Hendry is really just getting the awfully unhappy Jones anywhere but here, even if it means making another really bad deal to make it happen.
  17. If we wanted Infante that badly, couldn't we just trade Nate Spears and Carlos Perez for him?
  18. Omar Infante career: .253 .298 .386 Corey Patterson career: .258 .298 .414 Why Corey deserves to be run out of town: He plays outfield Why Infante deserves to trade a better player for him: He plays infield. Okay, now I get it.
  19. While this is certainly a terrible deal for the Cubs, I can't help but wonder whether or not Jacque quietly demanded a trade out of town. He's never seemed happy here, and may have pushed the issue behind closed doors. Of course, this probably means that Pie and Murton will start next year in CF and RF (unless God forbid that Rotoworld prediction of Luis Gonzalez comes to fruition.) You can rest assured that Hendry will dig up some past his prime veteran to take time away from those guys. He already has. Omar Infante can play the OF AND the IF.
  20. That's disappointing. Apparently, the Cubs were just making things up when they said there was a market for Jacque Jones. I can't think of many other players currently on rosters in MLB that would be worse options than Omar Infante. Cubs send Greg Maddux and Jacque Jones and receive Cesar Izturis and Omar Infante.
  21. I'm hoping Grady Sizemore. I'm guessing since Hendry is the most interested in him, he's probably more like Cesar Izturis.
  22. $72 million? I'm lost. I thought Texas only had close to 27 million owed to ARod? No Boras client has ever not opted out when they had the opportunity. J.D. Drew is a perfect example last year. And we all knew he was going to Boston before he opted out. I hope ARod doesn't get more money then he did from Texas (10/252), but I have no doubt that that is exactly what he and Boras plan on trying to get. I think what BTC was trying to say is the Yankees have 72m in available dollars for next year alone. I'm guessing he's including the Clemens money in that.
  23. Guess I should have written down my picks. No way I choose the same teams for a lot of those crappy players.
  24. The Cubs bullpen is not a problem. They'll be fine with what they have. The Cubs had the best pitching staff in the NL last year. Well, according to the stats, the Padres did. But, move the Padres pitching staff into Wrigley and against the NL Central and they finish with a higher ERA.
