  1. And to this day, there is incompetence all over the league. We see it in our very own favorite organization. It was stupid for Texas to spend all that money on ARod. I won't argue with you there. They didn't have the components to compete. There aren't many teams that are in a position to: 1. Afford to pay ARod what he's worth. 2. Have the components to surround him with talent for the next several years. 3. The desire to spend that kind of money on a single ballplayer.
  2. I agree. I think ARod is as good as gone. But, I don't see any team coughing up 10/300. All a team has to do is see what 10/250 did to Texas, and that was during ARod's prime years. I could see a deal stretching to 10 years, and maybe something in the vicinity of 17-20m per, but I'm thinking ARod may not require the per year money to be of as much importance as the length of the deal and where that deal leads him. If I'm right in my thinking, ARod puts comfort and winning a championship ahead of dollar amount at this point. But, I very well could be wrong.
  3. And would St. Louis find a way to cough up money for ARod?
  4. Boras still wants 30 mill???? does this not tarnish the value a little bit? I was thinking of offering 18 at the most. It's all just posturing, IMO. If ARod wants the big money, he will stay in New York and sign an extension that will give him that big money. If he hates New York enough, and wants to play for a winner, he knows he'll have to settle for less to do so. Maybe a team like Anaheim would throw that kind of money at ARod, but I doubt it.
  5. Not only did they take a step back, but they are extremely old as well. Vizquel is 40. Durham is 35 Klesko is 36 Roberts is 35 Molina is 32 Winn is 33 Feliz is 32 Aurilia is 35 Sweeney is 37 Not one position player is in his 20's. And, they play in a division that features Arizona, Colorado, LAD and SD, all teams with either an equal front 3 rotation or young talented players who will be with their respective teams for years to come. If ARod went to San Francisco, it wouldn't be because he wants to win a championship. It would be because of the money offered.
  6. Add Zito and they could easily have one of the top rotations in the game. Pitching is very important. Add Arod, and they aren't as far as people think. They don't have much else offensively, but they will probably have the most money to spend. We will see if Arod runs for the money again, like he did when he went to Texas. You want me to add him again? I have him as part of the front 3. As far as ARod running for the money, I don't see it happening. What would be the point? He has to know that the 25m a year he originally signed for is what hampered him in Texas. He can stay in NY for another 3 years if it's all about the money. At this point, he should not care about the money and be more focused on playing on a fun team in a fun town that has a chance to win. In other words, he's done the highest paid player in baseball thing and it hasn't brought him any championship rings. If I was him, I'd take a modest but respectable payday from a team that would allow me to play the position I want to play and not rip me apart in the press day in and day out and the team gave me enjoyment, while still having an opportunity to win a championship ring. Chicago is ARod's kind of town.
  7. It seems like there was something prior to the Magglio ordeal that pushed the White Sox over the edge.
  8. The Giants have the money to spend, but I don't see A-Rod going to a team that will most likely be in last place for the next umpteen years. Outside of a nice front 3 of Cain, Lincecum and Zito, they have NOTHING.
  9. Ok, I will then. Arizona is better than us (can't speak for Colorado) 1) They won the regular season against us. 2) They had more wins than us in a better division. 3) They beat us handily in the NLDS. Say what you want about how we have better talent and we were too tight in the playoffs -- yada, yada..... ...until the Cubs prove otherwise, Arizona is better than us. (one only needs to look at the difference in plate approach to see that). Don't forget that Arizona did this without Randy Johnson, Orlando Hudson and Chad Tracy. Justin Upton is only going to get better. Chris Young and Stephen Drew are going to get better. Colorado now has pitching to go with a great offense. And they haven't brought up all their talent yet. Be very afraid of young teams with that kind of talent.
  10. Because there aren't any SS's available that fit your description.
  11. Yeah. I'm still pissed at Aram for this, considering we finished a couple of games out of first in the division standings. Oh, wait......
  12. If I was Torre, I'd walk right now.
  13. Renteria is a better fit and will be much cheaper. Marshall plus Cedeno/Theriot ought to get it done. How are Renteria and Tejada better fits than a player that is so much better than either of them? If someone wanted to argue that acquiring them is more realistic than acquiring A-Rod, that's one thing. One could even argue the fact that they're less expensive, giving the Cubs money to go out and improve the team in other areas. But to say either of them is a better fit than adding arguably the best player in the game just doesn't make sense. Plus the fact that the Cubs suck in the playoffs and so does ARod. How is that not a perfect fit?
  14. Jody Davis.
  15. Rich Hill probably hates it when Geovany Soto catches him. Who would want a catcher who called a 1 hit shutout in your last start? Yeesh. On a happy note, if Rich Hill tosses a perfect game tomorrow, no one will be able to steal 2nd on him or Kendall.
  16. WYSIWYG
  17. It's not like he replaced Zambrano with Marquis. Marmol has been lights out all year, and there's no reason to think he couldn't have pitched good innings in relief. We lost game one because we scored one run on 4 hits. Unless my math is fuzzy, Zambrano had only given up 1 run as well. 1-1 is not a loss. And if Zambrano is asked to bunt to move Theriot to 3rd, it's quite possible that Soriano's fly out to CF scores Theriot. Now you have Zambrano still pitching with a 2-1 lead.
  18. Agreed. You play the current game like there is no other, and then worry about future games as they happen. It's a horrible decision to make plans for game 4 when there is a possibility there won't even be a game 4. And you hope that if there isn't a game 4, it's because YOUR team swept the opposing team, not the other way around.
  19. Depressing: Augie Ojeda: 4-7, 1R, 1RBI, 1K LeeRamirezSoriano: 4-27, 1R, 0RBI, 12K
  20. That's good stuff.
  21. One more thing I might add is that the Padres are cheap. Brian Giles wanted his brother on the team last year and it wouldn't have taken much to trade for him. Instead, the Padres held out and Atlanta ended up non tendering Marcus. The Padres would probably do the same sort of thing with Prior. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a little tampering going on there, either. It's probably completely up in the air at this point whether the Cubs tender or non tender Prior for 2008. I'm sure Prior and his dad are well aware of this, and I'd almost guarantee that if he's non tendered, he'll end up in San Diego.
  22. Doubt the Padres like that trade, however.
  23. There is zero reason to retain Kendall. They probably can't afford to give him the money he'll expect. The writing appears to be on the wall for Kendall. Blanco will be back next year since his contract requires it. But, that pretty much locks down the catcher position going into next year. I like that tandem, actually. Any money spent this offseason should be used to retain Prior and Wood and improve the SS situation.
