  1. When will MLB step into the 21st century. It's absolutely amazing to me that I get one choice of what game I get to watch today. One. I have nearly 700 channels on my tv, and there will be one baseball game on Saturday from 10am to 4pm. My tv will not be tuned into FOX today. I hope their ratings reach an all time low this year, so that we can eventually be freed to watch whatever freaking game we want to watch.
  2. Thus, the game should just be cancelled so as not to embarrass the AL.
  3. To think Hendry tried everything he could to trade Gallagher for a freakin' lead off hitter when we already have one of those. [-(
  4. Just imagine the type of package Colorado would be looking for to approve a trade for Holliday. Bold prediction: Holliday will leave Colorado as a free agent.
  5. Unless Berkman pitches as well as he hits, Houston will be in serious trouble sooner rather than later.
  6. Wells broke his wrist last week. Remember how long it took to get the real Derrek Lee back from his wrist injury? No thanks.

Zambrano, Lilly, Dempster, Hill, Gallagher looks awful good to me.
  8. Sub 2 ERA at home, nearly a 5 ERA on the road. Been saying this for years. Petco is an ideal situation for Maddux. His fly ball tendencies killed him while he was pitching for the Cubs. Moving to a pitcher friendly park has rejuvenated his career. Here are his ERA splits by ballpark this year: Dodger Stadium: 0.00 Dolphin Stadium: 6.35 Citizen's Bank: 4.26 Chase Field: 11.57 Petco: 1.42 ATT Park: 1.29 How many times would Maddux pitch on the West Coast while wearing a Cub uniform? Take Maddux out of the West, and you have another Jason Marquis on your hands. The man should retire as a Padre.
  9. Is that Tom Goodwin's little brother?

Yeah, I did something similar last week, although I brought someone up from my bench. Vernon Wells broke his wrist, so I moved Braun to the outfield from 3b and put Edwin Encarnacion in at 3b. I'd say it's okay.

Happy to only be down by 7.5 points with a 2 start advantage so far this week. I was concerned about my pitching points this week with the offenses my pitchers are facing. My outfielders are dropping like flies. It might be time to promote Wladimir Balentien. The kid has got mammoth power.
  12. I'd be shocked if Edmonds played a single game in the minors. I fully expect to see him batting 5th Wednesday or Thursday for your Chicago Cubs.
  13. Bats are breaking nearly as often as balls are hit out of play. It's become ridiculous. I have seen many shards of bat fly into the stands so far this year, one being a piece that surely would have done some damage if it hit someone. Instead, it landed in the aisle between rows at Dodger Stadium. The frequency to which bats are splintering is definitely cause for concern. I think Adenhart broke every bat in one of the innings he pitched against the Angels last night. You just don't know which direction a broken bat will fly, which is the biggest cause of concern.
  14. Gerald Perry deserves the next multi-million dollar contract.
  15. This guy couldn't keep a job with the last place team in baseball with no real CF solution to replace him, yet the first place Cubs are going to insert him in the starting line up and bat him in the heart of the order. Brilliant. I have an idea. Let Pie bat in the heart of the order for a week. If that doesn't get him going, then consider upgrading. And when I say upgrade, I don't mean Edmonds. It makes sense to try it. Move Theriot to 8th where he can try to steal bases in front of the pitcher's spot rather than when Lee is at the plate.
  16. Pie needs AB's that he will not get up here. Edmonds is very low risk mediocre reward. I hate the guy but he is better than Pie right now. Pie can come back up in September. Here is Edmonds' OPS+ trends since '04: '04- 170 '05- 137 '06- 110 '07- 88 '08- 38 As bad as you all think Pie has been hitting, Edmonds' OPS+ so far this year is much worse than Pie's. Think about this for a minute. The San Diego Padres cut him. If they had a decent CFer to replace him, it might not be worth noting. But, they have Jody Gerut playing CF now. That should tell you something. Edmonds is done.
  17. Look how entertaining our outfield will be with Edmonds. We have Soriano doing his hop before every catch. Then we will have Edmonds making the most routine fly ball look like a Sportscenter circus catch. Any way we can get Fukudome to start doing somersaults or 360 degree spins before he catches the ball? That's all that's left, right?
  18. While DeRosa and Lou keep clamoring for another left handed bat, can we look at the current stats first and note that we are currently first in the majors in many offensive categories with just 1 and a half lefties in the line up most of the time. And then, let's look at the team directly behind us that features these right handed bats: Eric Byrnes, Chris Young, Justin Upton, Mark Reynolds, Conor Jackson, Chris Snyder and these lefty bats: Stephen Drew and switch hitter Orlando Hudson. 1 and a half lefty bats. We've made it almost a quarter of the season doing just fine in CF. I would find an upgrade in CF reasonable at some point, but Edmonds is NOT an ugrade.
  19. This would have been a great opportunity to let Eyre pitch himself out of trouble.
  20. Okay. My turn to criticize. Why in the heck is Eyre getting pulled? Just let him finish the inning, Lou.
  21. Being a San Diegan, I find myself watching Padres games more often than I really prefer. He was horrific in the field this year. I tried not to watch him bat too much, mainly because I really do not like Edmonds, but what little I did see, he offered nothing that impressed me.

Correct. The Eyes of Texas is UT, and Bevo is our mascot. http://ickscorner.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/bevo.jpg That's a nice handlebar mustache Bevo has. Bevo's behind bears a striking resemblence to another Texas fixture, GWB. ;)
  24. But if the Dodgers fall out of it, and the Cubs overpay in a trade, something that is not unheard for the Cubs, I could see a Furcal trade happening. If the Dodgers fall out of it, they have Jeff Kent, Andruw Jones, Juan Pierre, Nomar Garciaparra, Derek Lowe, Brad Penny and Estaban Loaiza and others that they could consider dealing to get ready for '09. Of all the veteran players they have, the only one they have that is a real keeper is Furcal. Considering what he's doing for the team right now, a lynching might be in order if they allow Furcal to test the free agent waters. Of course, as well as Furcal is playing, he might prefer that road anyway. His next contract might be his last. True, but also out of those players you named, what can bring in real value? The question is are they just wanting to shed payroll, or are they wanting to get young talent? You're probably right...a team like the Dodgers is probably about shedding payroll, and rebuilding through free agency (which has clearly worked well for them). Several of those players could bring value at the deadline. But, LA also has more youth waiting to be promoted. They have a nice core to build around with Kemp, Loney, Martin, Ethier, LaRoche, Kuroda, Billingsley, Kershaw, etc...
