  1. Cueto likes to serve up tape measure home runs. It should be a good day for Cub fans everywhere.
  2. I'm expecting a big day today. I have Brandon Webb, James Shields, Roy Oswalt and Johnny Cueto all pitching today. Of course, I wouldn't mind Cueto taking a dump today.
  3. Is Joe Morgan a curse word? :D Yes.
  4. This should be true of any player in the organization. Exactly. However, it's no big secret that Harden is a health risk. What kind of package can the Cubs expect to get for a health risk? Personally, I'd like to see the Cubs win their division for the next 10 years. New ownership with deep pockets just might help make that a possibility. Even if Harden only pitches 100 innings a year, to have that kind of arm in the playoffs for the next 3-5 years to me would be worth it.
  5. One more bit of information to support your argument is that if St. Louis was in either of the other divisions, they would be in the playoff hunt. They'd be in first place in the NL West. Personally, I don't put any stock at all into where a team finishes, because one player cannot make that much of an impact on whether a team finishes first or last. But, many of the voters seem to think that making the playoffs somehow makes someone more valuable than another. And there really is a big difference between a guy who walks because he doesn't swing at crap and a guy who doesn't get anything but crap to swing at. It's Pujols' award to lose at this point, IMO.
  6. Isn't it a pretty safe bet that just about every pitcher will have 2 starts in the finals, and some might even get three starts?
  7. Unfortunately, that's usually about the amount of runs the Padres score each game.
  8. Nudge.
  9. I'm locking this one because there is an identical thread in this forum.
  10. I'm sure the goal isn't to rush Zambrano or Harden back. The more rest they can get, the better it will be for the whole team. But, the Cubs will still want to win the division. So, it becomes imperative that the rest of the team step up and allow Zambrano and Harden their necessary rest while still holding HFA. And it wouldn't be a huge surprise if a lot of guys did step up, since playoff roster spots are up for grabs. Especially in the bullpen.
  11. Fantastic news. Looks like we will have some fresh arms for the playoffs. Meanwhile, other playoff hopefuls will be leaning on their starters with short rest to hold off other teams in the playoff hunt. Hopefully the races stay close in the NL East and West for the remainder of the year.
  12. The key to winning this game, in my mind, is the ability of the QB to hit his possession receivers. Marty Booker, Olson, Clark and Peterson in 3rd down situations make for pretty good targets. Especially if they can get someone like Hester to tie up a corner and a safety on deep patterns. That and the defense forcing a few turnovers and keep the running game in control. I'd also like to see a lot of blitzing on Manning. Being out of game situations for as long as he has, it would be nice to see him on his back early and often to shorten his ridiculous pocket presence. The defense has a lot to prove after the poor showing in preseason.
  13. They've been pretty clueless drafting offensive players. By the time they actually fix the offense, the defense will be old and decrepid.
  14. I think I read in that article that he's hit 17 home runs this year. Did I read that part of the article wrong?
  15. The offense was perfectly fine last night. I will concede that Lee's at bat with the bases loaded was not one of his finer moments. When a pitcher is as wild as Wright was, don't give the guy an easy way out of the jam he created. Make him throw strikes. Swinging at a low pitch with a 1-0 count was just what he was hoping Lee would do, and Lee fell for it.
  16. Looking over the live scoring page, TBA should be contracted.
  17. Or not. What Valverde does is no different than what Zambrano does. Zero percent different. but when zambrano does it, it's cute Actually, it's quite hot when Zambrano does it.
  18. I really don't like my pitching match ups for next week against either team that makes it out of week 1.
  19. Valverde didn't bother me. JC Romero, on the other hand,..........
  20. The suicide pool I've seen is worth about 18k to the winner. It's all fine and dandy to make stupid bets on your team, but I wouldn't do that in a suicide pool, with the Bears, in Indy, in week 1. Throw $20 on them with the local bookie if you must. The pool I'm in is definitely not 18K. Maybe $600 to the winner. It's out of the local bar I hang out at, and as I've already said, I won an NCAA pool already, so it's not a big deal if I lose $20 in this one. Plus, I'd really like to see the Bears win this game.
  21. Yes. Marmol's slider is more than 10 MPH slower than his fastball. If the hitter can't pick up what's coming out of his hand, the hitter has to guess. With the late movement of Marmol's slider, it makes it even harder for the hitter to make an adjustment, thus creating swings and misses rather than foul balls.
  22. I have to get excited about the Bears. I dropped a $20 on them beating the Colts in a suicide pool. A lot of Bears players have a lot to prove. Hope Clark and Olson are ready to catch a lot of quick, short passes. I know. It's a crazy pick. But, I won an NCAA pool and am still way ahead in winnings. Not to mention the fact that I'm about to win two more bets. Mike Cameron only needs to hit one more home run and Tampa needs to stay ahead of Toronto in the NL East for the other bet. These are bets I made in the preseason. Realistically, I see the Bears at 8-8. The offense will be quite frustrating, but between defense and special teams, there are enough possession guys on offense to score enough points to be a .500 team this year. Wait you picked the Bears to beat the Colts in your suicide pool?? The Bears going into Indy, in their first game in their new stadium, and beating the Colts? I know Peyton might not be 100% and I know everyone has been dogging the Bears, but you must be crazy! Maybe he thinks a suicide pool means killing your chances of winning a bet. And won't you all look like fools when all those people who picked Indy are signing up for a new suicide pool? If you can't bet on your favorite team to win a stupid game, what good are they? And I trust that my allegiance to the Bears will never again be called into question.

  24. The pitch was down and in. Lee swung at a pitcher's pitch, a ball he would not be able to drive even though he did get pretty good wood on it. As wild as this guy was throwing, Lee had no business swinging at that pitch. That game had a lot of goats. You really cant pin it all on Lee. Just a lot of bad baseball in general. You're right about that. Howry wins the grand prize. Lou finishes a close 2nd for the stupid bunt attempts, bringing up a kid to the plate who has never seen a major league pitch in his life at a critical time, wasting Wood and Marmol for Wednesday, bringing in Howry. I'll give Lee third prize since he swung at a borderline ball 2 after the pitcher just walked the previous hitter on 4 pitches. Aramis did have 3 errors, but the first two didn't affect the game and the third one was actually a web gem if he nails the throw. 4th prize goes to the umpire, who should have called Berkman out on strikes on a ball right down the middle of the plate, which instead was called ball 4. I'm all out of prizes for now, but I'll restock for today's game since Howry will likely get the call at some point today.
