  1. On Friday night, ESPN was showing the Bears/Packers game from November of '85. This got my blood boiling again. Anything less than a severe ass beating is unacceptable. I'm happy to see that I can watch this one from the comforts of home.
  2. Yeah, they just want to bridge the gap until Colvin is ready. I hope they wouldn't, Colvin hasn't done anything that would indicate he can be counted on to step in there 2-3 years from now as a starting RF'er. I was being sarcastic. But, Cubs management does seem to want a short term fix rather than a long term fix. Probably in large part to the lengthy contracts they've already handed out.
  3. The only rumors I've heard about Griffey is that he might take a small deal in Seattle so that he can retire as a Mariner. And I think I'd probably rather have Edmonds back for a year over Griffey.
  4. Yeah, they just want to bridge the gap until Colvin is ready.
  5. Yeah, whatever. I ain't afraid of you. And if I don't post again for awhile, it won't be because I went off to watch some MMA PPV or anything like that, but rather than Modzilla is still pissed.
  6. This would also be a great time to post pictures of Sea Lions with buckets. Where's Outshined One when you need him?
  7. I just remembered what was missing from this thread that was in the Roberts thread....... I'm currently working on a 29 team trade that will get Jake Peavy to the Cubs. I've been working on this for hours, and I should have it completed soon. Check back early and often for the latest details.
  8. Tell your boss to chill the hell out. If he's going to post on the internet, people are going to ask questions. It's human nature. If he doesn't like it, he can take his little website off of the net. He didn't post anything on the internet. He sent me an email. How about this, if it comes true, you all can kiss my ass. if it doesn't, i will never quote my boss again. deal? Hear that, everyone? We're bad people for questioning some guy on the internet! We should believe everything we read, like Peavy will become a Cub, JFK was offed by the mob, and 9-11 was an inside job! It's on the internet! It must be true! no. there is nothing to question here. It's an internet rumor which was stated with that as a qualifier. no reason to go all nuts. Just take it for what it's worth. Umm, welcome to the forum?
  9. And that's my point. Why would Wood want to sign a 1 year deal with a team, which could inevitably be the last contract he ever signs, if he can likely get a 3 or 4 year deal for much more. Why would anyone do that? It would be great if he would do that, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
  10. I was hoping for better news. But thanks for the info. Assuming that the rotation will be full to start the season, the Cubs would have to stick him in the bullpen in order to keep him.
  11. Getting this thread back on topic, not that I wasn't highly entertained by Badnews, but someone help me understand where we are with Rich Hill. Does Rich have to make the 25 man roster this spring in order to retain his rights? Being out of options, but finishing the year in the minors, can the Cubs start him off in the minors again this year without having to expose him to waivers?
  12. I wonder where Vitters fits into this. I wonder if Vitters is the guy Hendry is hesitant to include in a deal for Peavy. Cubs offer? Marshall, Cedeno, Pie and Castillo Padres demands? Marshall or Hill, Fontenot, Pie and Vitters
  13. Yeah, between Towers saying that train has left the station and Moores demanding that payroll be slashed in half, I would expect to see Peavy traded. The ball is in Hendry's court. He better not screw this up.
  14. He serves up a lot more long balls these days. He was rather brutal in the first half last year before turning it around late in the season. His fastball seemed very hittable last year.
  15. Yeah I know. He's made only $50m in his career. Sarah and the kids must really be struggling to put food on the table. Yeah, I forgot that baseball players have no interest in big money and will happily play for free for the right team. Thanks for bringing me back to reality.
  16. This post is a joke, right? Yeah, where's Harden and Johnson in that rotation?
  17. If Hendry and Kerry really had this wonderful relationship, they shouldn't be where they are now. I appreciate that Kerry has given the Cubs some nice hometown discounts, but I have to believe he is interested in a long term deal. For his families sake, he should be going after a long term deal. One can only hope that Kerry will accept arbitration, but he's nuts to do so and turn down a lot of money.
  18. You forgot to add that Wood signs a 1 year deal.
  19. I'm curious why Peavy would have put the Braves on his list of teams he'd be willing to be traded to. Maybe he saw that some of the stud players that the Braves would be packaging back would put him on a team that probably wasn't going to win anything for awhile.
  20. Personally, and not based on anything Donnie said, I don't believe Peavy will be back with San Diego. Moores is cutting payroll to 40m. His wife is taking him for half of everything he owns, and in order to make that happen, he has to unload his expensive players. I have heard rumors that Moores might even sell a portion of his ownership to satisfy his wife's demands. Peavy hasn't said anything about approving any deals to the Angels or the Yankees, and I don't think he will. If the Yankees or Angels were going to be serious players, you would think that Towers would have tried to garner more of their attention before the Thursday deadline expired. The ball is definitely in Hendry's court. He has plenty to offer, IMO I agree with you. I was just speaking to all the Donnie D stuff in my post. I believe Peavy will be traded and the Padres will not get equal value for him. With all the "approved" teams not being a fit other than us, Hendry better get this done. The Braves are still a fit, but I've never really understood why. They should be selling off what they have left to build for the future. Chipper will not get to 3000 hits in a Braves uniform. That will need to happen as a DH with an American League team. The rumors that are circulating that they are interested in Furcal are rather humurous, also. WTH, Atlanta? Hey, I hear Andruw Jones and Dave Justice might be available, too.

  22. Don't get your hopes up too much. There was information he shared with mods that gave me the impression he may want to hold off on sharing that info beyond Friday. But, that's just my take. He may spill the beans tonight. So do you believe what he says? I believe what he says, but I wouldn't get too excited about the info. Why? Because the person isn't reputable, or because things change? Not that the person isn't reputable but it depends on Donnie's read/judgement of the situation. And yes, things can easily change. So if you guys had to guess right now would you Peavy is trading to the Cubs or not? haha I wish I could say. Since I'm not willing to put all my stock into a bit of insider info, I can't say whether he'll be a Cub or not. First off, Hendry needs to put together a package that Towers will have a tough time saying no to. I'll probably get a lot of argument from Meph, but I'm probably the biggest Peavy fan on this message board. I've seen him pitch time and again. He's amazing. He is right on course with "Z" as far as emotions are concerned, also. Don't piss him off. Peavy doesn't take too well to a bad outing, or even balls that should have been called strikes, for that matter. Very intense player who likes to swing the bat and will challenge anyone at the plate.
  23. This! That's why I'm saying people shouldn't get their hopes up that he'll spill the beans tonight. I'm in complete agreement with everything in this quote, especially the bolded.
  24. I swear that wasn't there yesterday... 8-[ Well, ya know..... We mods can edit our posts without notice that that post has been edited. ;) ETA: See, I told ya.

Let's just say that I don't doubt what he has shared, but I'm keeping my guard up, simply because anything can change in a moment's notice.
