  1. Before we go believing what the media has to say, let's remember that their main goal today is to get ratings and sell papers. Giving accurate news reports is only secondary.
  2. No disagreement here since what I stated to be common practice is the act of putting large numbers of players on the waiver wire and NOT the act of optioning players to the minors. This is a quote from Scott Nelson who works for the Cubs re: Corey Patterson's options: SOURCE Getting Corey to clear major league waivers before the July 31st trade deadline would pretty much be a formality since: 1) clearing it is not essential to trading him and teams do not bother to make claims BEFORE July 31. 2) the Cubs do not have to state WHY they are putting him on waivers (teams will not know that he is being sent down to minors) 3) the move is revocable, so the Cubs would NOT lose Corey to another team in any case
  3. He CAN be sent down. All he has to do is clear Major League (revocable) waivers which is pretty much a formality. No GM in his right mind would claim a player off of those since he would expose himself to retaliation from other GM's, plus it's a common practice done by every team. At some point in the season pretty much every player goes on major league waivers.
  4. Or maybe Larry was trying to grab him to keep him from being injured just like they do in the NBA with those bearhug fouls during obvious layups
  5. Or maybe Aram and his agent took one look at what happened to Sammy and realized that they don't want anything like that to happen again.
  6. If Dora the Expolerer was a Cub fan she would be singing that right now. Of Derrek Lee's NL Leading 3,560,316 votes, 3,277,475 were cast online. After being behind by more than 300,000 votes with days to go, Lee beat Pujols by more than 100k which means a swing of over 400,000 votes in just a matter of days. Props to the following: 1) Derrek Lee for being so GOOD that you couldn't help but vote for the guy 2) the many Cubs blogs, forums, and sites who ruthlessly promoted the "Vote for Derrek Lee" campaign 3) the many readers/members of the Cubs related sites who took the time to stuff those ballot boxes for Lee 4) Vance who led the NSBB campaign and probably ended up voting more times for Derrek than any other person online * special mention to David Eckstein whom the Cards fans pushed so hard for that they totally forgot about Pujols in the last few days Feel free to add any others who deserves credit for making Derrek the top vote getter.
  7. Things to look forward to in the 2nd half:
  8. Amazing. How the...wow... 10th in the AL among 1B in AVG 6th in the AL among 1B in OBP 4th in the AL among 1B in SLG 10th, 6th, and 4th and he's somehow an All Star? I don't think he belongs. Blame it on the PLAYERS. Isn't that a result of their voting?
  9. He has an out clause after two years so it's not like it was a horribly stupid move. It's not like he'd exercise that clause. He did say he wants to remain a Cub for the rest of his life. Are you for real? Do you seriously think that he would turn down a bunch more money so that he could be a Cub for two more years? If the team is winning then YES, he stays. If the team is not then he probably would choose to leave.
  10. If this team was a TV show then it would be LOST.
  11. Don't the Cubs already have the market cornered on hard throwing pitching prospects with poor control?
  12. Looks like you and Sammy have something in common then.
  13. Maybe 2 years tops. After that you're going to have an ageing veteran with declining skills and a bloated contract, and we all know how the Cubs feel about those...
  14. Obviously, you're not a golfer. Or an Astrologist.
  15. Rogers should be thankful David Stern is not commisioner of baseball.
  16. They have a manager with common sense.
  17. If Dusty wants Walker to hit 2nd and "protect" Ramirez, then maybe ARam should be leading off?
  18. last count said 49,000+
  19. Yes it does, so after I get the "you have voted the maximum window" I switch to the next address.
  20. If your pattern has been to vote 100 times per day then that means you only need 4 email addresses since those same 4 emails are valid to use again on the next day. Of course there's less than a day left now so that doesn't help
  21. Agreed. Ohman has pitched very well against lefties and I hope that Dusty will realize that this guy is a real loogy as opposed to Remmy.
  22. I just hopped on... Shotgun's been called so I'll call Ankle Holster
  23. Let Hairston lead-off and put Walker in the 2-hole. Jerry can play LF. We don't need power from our LF spot since Lee, Aram, Burnitz, etc. have that covered. Just allow these guys to get on in front of all those XBH's.
  24. How about Greg with a prop? http://www.kocanda.com/cubs/kabuki_greg.jpg
