  1. Your only hope in the near future is to become a Braves fan.
  2. Plus Andy Mazur gets some PBP practice in without too much pressure since it's only for an inning.
  3. Oh, of course the players could never be responsible for their own sloppy play and failure. What was Jim thinking? You guys are on the ball on this. 1) the players are responsible for their own bad play 2) Hendry brought in these players 3) Hendry brought in the guy who is supposed to motivate these players 4) these players are playing badly without motivation 5) Hendry must take the blame. It's called command responsibility.
  4. I get the feeling Baker will be booed in Chicago this week everytime he steps out of the dugout. I think even the sidewalk Cub fan has had it with Baker. I would be willing to put money on that happening.
  5. Here's my official FIRE DUSTY BAKER pic: http://www.pinoytennis.com/cubsfun/images/under_fire.jpg
  6. Don't look now but you just described Ichiro Suzuki to a tee.
  7. When you play in an atmosphere where: 1) good play is not rewarded by more playing time especially when you are young 2) the players starting ahead of you are doing a horrible job 3) you're strengths are not being capitalized on 4) your weaknesses are being magnified because you are constantly put in the wrong situations then you would lose the desire to play at 100% everyday for 162 days. Baseball players are human too.
  8. Cubs record against the Pirates this year: 8-3 That is the only team that the Cubs are beating up on.
  9. I am all for this kind of set up as long as the Cubs get dibs on the Pirates being in their division. Nothing like beating up your own AAAA affiliate I always say.
  10. Margin of error +/- 10%
  11. Anyone know when or for whom Davey Johnson last managed? I always remember him during his time with the Mets. Davey Johnson's managerial record. His last stint was with the LA Dodgers in 2000. In 14 seasons as a manager, Johnson has had only three seasons below .500. (1990- his last year with the Mets, 1993- his first year with the Reds, and 1999 his first year with the Dodgers.) He's had four seasons with a winning percentage over 600, and then another at 590. He has a winning record for all four organizations he has managed. He would be an excellent choice. Wow. I'm convinced. Does Davey need to be coaxed out of retirement like Jack Mckeon was last year? Looks like he could be the kinda manager who could provide continuity for this team.
  12. The Lock Man cometh...
  13. I am still very much on Hendry's side and feel that it would be a mistake to let him go. I still believe that when Hendry first chose Dusty Baker that he made the correct choice at the time. Baker's job was to change the mindset of the entire organization from a losing attitude into one where the entire city EXPECTS THIS TEAM TO WIN, and Baker has indeed done that. Hendry's mistake was signing Dusty to a contract that was 2 years too long. Now it is entirely possible that Dusty wouldn't agree to signing anything shorter than 4 years so Jim probably had to make a judgement call on that one. What irks me now is that firing Baker carries with it a hefty price tag because of his contract and it's entirely possible that the Tribsters would balk at flushing money down the toilet that way. Those guys don't care as much as we fans do about the Cubs record as long as profit from ticket sales keep pouring in which they are. Hendry's major fault now is his extreme loyalty towards Dusty Baker and I have a bad feeling that he learned this trait from no other than His Loyal Dustiness. Bite the Bullet, Jim. Take a stand in front of your bosses. Let them know you stuck with this guy one year too long and that a new progressive mindset must be instilled into the team. FIRE DUSTY BAKER NOW.
  14. Anyone know when or for whom Davey Johnson last managed? I always remember him during his time with the Mets.
  15. We should probably think about moving this and all other Dusty threads to RIVALRIES since Dusty is doing a good job of helping Cubs opponents win so much.
  16. The kid is obviously not going to maintain a .400 average, but the point is you gotta ride a guy when he's hot.

    Amazin' A's

I wonder what Beane is saying to all those who told him he was selling this season short for the sake of the future?
  18. has a broadcaster ever jumped from the booth to the dugout b4? Interesting question. NO but I'm pretty sure Mark Grace would like to be the first...
  19. If we had Bobby Cox for manager Leo Mazzone as pitching coach and John Schuerholz as GM we'd be 30 games over .500 right now.
  20. We seem to be having trouble just getting that ONE.
  21. Yes he gave up a lot of runs but almost all of those were on cheap hits and poorly played balls. I'd still send him out there again.
  22. Having a lower payroll might actually be an advantage for the Cubs as the team will be forced to rely more on youngsters. Wait! Check that. If Dusty is still our manager next year then the team will rely on cheap sucky veterans like Holly, Neifi and Macias.
  23. Too late. He already has.
  24. Isn't Girardi being groomed to take over for Joe Torre who is rumored to be close to retirement?
  25. Forget the playoffs. This team has played enough games to trend how it will play for the rest of the season. The trend of the 2005 Chicago Cubs is this: Play well for a week or so, then turn around and play badly for a week or so. Right now the team is on a downturn and soon they will go on another upturn that will take them above the .500 mark again. But then they will soon go back down again. Make no mistakes about it. This club has already shown itself to be a .500 team and no minor moves (trades, callups, demotions, dfa's, etc.) is going to change that. At this point, the only thing that will affect this teams status is a MAJOR EARTH-SHAKING move. I'm talking about the firing of the manager and/or or GM, or a major waiver trade where the Cubs acquire a franchise player/s. (Please take note that I am not recommending these moves but merely giving an example as to what a major change would be).
