  1. the guy in blue is the best dressed dude on that table!
  2. The other Maddux. seconded. Hear! hear! The Cubs would be better served with GREG Maddux coaching next year rather than pitching. We still probably have to pay him the $9M though and if most of that will go towards Maddux improving the rest of the staff, then I'm all for it.
  3. Which is why it's mind boggling to me that he's replacing one of his best offensive assets with one of the worst. (Neifi for Walker) What do you expect? He has to do something to cancel out the positive of Cedeno being in the line-up. Heck, we're lucky Macias isn't in center. Don't be too hasty about that. FOr all you know, Dusty has already written Macias name in the lineup card...
  4. Looks like a whole lotta NSBB'ers invited Len to come over here :)
  5. Hendry doesn't do six year deals. He'll get 4 at the most.
  6. I don't mind having Neifi back as long as he is on the bench where he belongs. That means Hendry has to sign a starting SS who will stay healthy throughout the year. OTOH, Jose Macias should not be anywhere near this organization come April 2006.
  7. It is supposed to be a confidential thing, but like anything that is secret, someone always leaks it to somebody else.
  8. Then why put him on waivers to begin with? That makes no sense. Isn't it a waste of time on the Mets part to put him on waivers to begin w/ if they have no interest in trading him........................... To mask the players that they do want to trade. Plus it is a teams way of gauging who may be interested in which players. Kinda like the first feelers for a potential trade.
  9. Between Rusch and Williams, I'm more confident of Glendon coming up with more quality starts. Let's hope that Lawton and Nomar and the others can continue to spark the team. What was great about that last win against the Cards was that Lee and Aram didn't do much but the other guys picked up the slack. We didn't have that earlier in the year.
  10. It's put up or shut up time for the Cubs. I would compare this series to where Houston was late last year before they came to Wrigley in the series that turned their season around. Except this time it's the Astros who are leading the WC and the Cubs who are trailing. Let's see what kind of life is still in these Cubbies.
  11. I always thought the Cubs played more day games because "that's the way the game should be played".
  12. Rising to the occasion.
  13. I always knew that Eckstein was a damn fine ballplayer.
  14. BA is not exactly indicative of a team that doesn't make contact. Neifi Perez makes a lot of contact (avoiding the strikeout) but he doesn't have a good BA. Most likely the A's have a low team BABIP meaning they make a lot of contact but more of them become outs than other teams with higher BA.
  15. I still stick to the line that Hendry signed Baker 2 years too long. I cannot wait for this contract to be up.

  17. Felipe Alou would like to disagree with you on that one.
  18. 130 at bats for a position player 50 innings for a pitcher
  19. It pretty much boils down to Greg and how he evaluates his ability to compete. Let's hope Maddux is honest in his assessment of himself during the offseason.
  20. For the fans or Players? As a fan I would run out a dropped third strike, but that might just be me. For the players. Alas for us fans we are bound to stick to this team no matter how much posturing we do about switching allegiances. Once a Cubs fan, forever a Cubs fan.
  21. Are you saying this was a board sanctioned conclusion? Otherwise, I'd really like to know which posters said Choi, Dubois and Bobby Hill were "can't miss" prospects. I don't recall anyone making such bold claims. Expressing confidence that players can succeed based on their minor league numbers doesn't equate to calling them "can't miss" prospects. Arguing for them to receive playing time over other players doesn't fill the bill either. All most of us ever wanted was to have the hot hand played over the veteran who was stinking up the joint and for a good portion of the time, the hot hands were the rookies.
  22. I still think Maddux will decide to retire after this season. Don't ask me why.
  23. Nice to see we are pretty much lowering our expectations for this series to a minimum. That should make any type of success against the Cards feel so much better.
  24. Reality is often the best kind of comedy
  25. I believe you forgot the step after Acceptance which is Apathy.
