  1. I agree that's what it says, but I think you're giving the author a bit more credit than he deserves with that distinction. The headline is "Brewers punch ticket for October by adding Sabathia"...though I'll admit that someone else probably wrote the headline. Also the last paragraph doesn't qualify anything... I just think the author wanted to write something "controversial" so here ya go. cringe... sure enough, I clearly didn't read the article :)
  2. the article says "all but guaranteed" not "guaranteed." It's just a strongly worded way of saying "The Brewers now just need to play like they can and they'll make the playoffs." [/grammatical nitpick]
  3. when the number of times being violent eclipse the number of times being whimsical?
  4. here here!! one of my favorites, all-time
  5. Theriot has a swollen hand near his thumb. He will probably be back today. Even though it's obvious what you meant, this description is rather funny ;)
  6. fixed that for you... I was confused at first :)
  7. why is that the one you agree with? If a pitcher throws 9 no-hit innings, yet loses it in the tenth, it shouldn't count as a no-hitter? I don't agree with a pitcher being penalized (as far as milestones go) because of his own team's lack of offense. A no-hitter is about the pitcher . . . why should what eight other guys do at the plate matter. Oh well, it's not like that scenario is ever likely in my lifetime.
  8. Wow, there's some cool stuff in that article. Very cool stuff.
  9. I agree with the last couple posts here -- Harden's injury history may help us as much (or more) than hurt us. It's a bargaining chip in Hendry's favor. Granted, if we land him, it becomes our accepted risk. But make no mistake, if Harden were pitching full seasons the last couple years, Beane could demand a king's ransom. but he can't.
  10. I know we're being sarcastic and poking fun and everything, but I wouldn't mind more of this Manny Alexander/Riggleman story...
  11. Who's that in your sig photo? it is indeed sandberg. When in doubt, left-click the picture, click properties, and often times, the image's filename will tell you. "sandberg.jpg"
  12. nope. now had the crew, well nope. that's just strange that it doesn't make you feel better. ST LOUIS was swept this week. We just got swept and our lead in the standings remains roughly the same. I think you're letting the emotion of your game blur this perspective.
  13. that's just silly-talk. I'm all on board for moving on and not freaking out about tonight, but the better reasons are that we're still a good time, in first place, with plenty of time in the season. Not the get-it-out-of-their-system stuff... my tongue was partially in cheek with that statement and I've been around you long enough to be pretty sure of that :) But sometimes my attack-the-cliche mode can't be repressed so well. :)

  15. Could have been done without the Curse angle . . . but hey it's ESPN. :) Really though, that was a cool article. thanks for passing it along!
  16. As far as these sorts of statements go, I thought this was actually a pretty well written explanation:
  17. that's what I'm wondering . . . actually, we'll probably lose, thank god :)
  18. ozzie smith [/someone who never saw him play] [/biting off more than he can chew]
  19. I would also like to think my own dislike of the signing was more related to pessimistic expectations . . . and I now feel it truly was, since I really am okay with it at this point. I'd like it if he could walk a bit more, but he isn't hurting the time, like Ifeared he would.
  20. Blue Jay announcers just can't understand why Lou's upset . . . "are we gonna wait next time a cloud goes bye, too?" when the home team starts closing the roof while the away team is batting . . . that's a different story.
  21. my favorite sports headline from The Onion: link
  22. not much of a fan then, IMO. He's a pastor. I can see why that background would make him consider character important. I think I've got pretty good morals (biased, I know), yet I'm not opposed to signing bonds. at least not for moral reasons.
  23. wow. and I didn't notice until afterwards the final score of the game. Not a very happy night for Brewers fans!
