  1. They should offer arb to Harden, Gregg, and Grabow. If Harden walks sign someone as a replacement. Maybe Duschcherer or Brett Myers to a deal similiar to Brad Penny's with Boston. Target Soriano from Atlanta for the pen. As for the offense, they need to add an impact bat, but the middle infield is the only place they can add a starter, so I don't see how that happens. I just hope they don't do something stupid and give Chone Figgens a 4 year deal. The farm system is going in the right direction, I don't see them blowing it up.
  2. I think Philly as a team has done much better vs LHP. They are better off hoping or the best from Samardzija and having Marshall and Grabow each take a turn through Utley-Howard-Ibanez. Doesn't really matter though, Cliff Lee starts that one for Philly. Philly offense v RHP: .263/.339/.442/.782 Philly offense v LHP: .249/.334/.453/.787 I meant Philly has done much better in game outcomes vs LHP, . They are 23-14 vs left handed starters and 38-33 vs righties. Either way, I like the move to give Samardzija a start. Might as well give Shark a shot. With Cashner, Carpenter, and Jackson getting closer, Wells looking like a keeper, and Gorz in the system, Samardzija isn't going to get much of an opportunity to start for this team. Let's see what he does with it.

  4. Great deal for the Indians if it happens. A solid young pitcher, Loney, + prospects.
  5. OK, this Al guy is clearly crazy. I apologize for posting his rumors yesterday.
  6. Kerry Wood? What other pitcher has followers who would be thrilled that they would be pitching for the Cubs? Sorry. I worded that poorly. I meant Al's followers, not the pitcher's. I assume he just means it is a significant player.
  7. Al at BCB says the Cubs are working on a deal for a pitcher who whould make his followers very happy. I know, I know it's BCB, but he was spot on with Gerald Perry being fired earlier this year, so who knows?
  8. Neither. Give me Thornton. Dotel or Jenks would be fine too.
  9. Good for Rex. Is he the #2 there? Schaub seems to go down quite a bit, so he may see the field.
  10. Depending on how much monet they have or dont have, it could. I highly doubt Pedros going to sign for cheap just to play. If you can't add more runs, add some run prevention. There don't seem to be any good options as far as trades to make a big impact on the offense, so why not try to improve where you can and hope guys start hitting. Now, maybe Pedro sucks at this point, but what's the harm in looking?
  11. Why is it bad for them to watch him throw? He might be usefull in the bullpen. It's not like signing Pedro would prevent them from some magical move to fix the offense.
  12. I don't foollow the draft a ton, but I notice no Matt Davidson on here. What's the deal with him?I thought he was supposed to be one of the top HS bats.
  13. Dumb. Mauer at 39 is as bad as Jeter at 8. Mauer is easily top 10 if not top 5.
  14. Are we sure he's talking about Hoff at 1b and not in RF?
  15. It's going to be longer than that. Pedro missed 2 months last year with a strained left hamstring. Vernon Wells missed a month. Stephen Drew and Brenden Ryan are on the DL now with it. I'd be shocked if Z avoids the DL.
  16. This is still the best... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idQmNjMICnA&feature=related Near tears because of Aaron Miles.
  17. You mean it's blacked out on MLB.tv or you are blacked out in Philly and are going to use MLB.tv? The Yankees game is on in Philly, but it will also be blacked out on MLB.TV because it's a saturday afternoon game. That blows my mind that you pay for that service to watch your team and they can black you out. Like Fox needs a few extra viewers that will be watching on MLB.tv Wish I could help you, most of the stream sites that I use have every sport besides baseball :( Worst case scenario, I can watch the game on demand after the game is over (so around 7ish), but I would like to watch it live if possible. Any help people can give me would be appreciated. I live in Philly, too. We are screwed every Saturday unless the game starts at or after 7pm et. Fox Philly almost never has the Cubs game on. It's always Philly or the NY teams.
  18. But couldn't Pie do the same thing? I'd rather have Pie. Well yeah. I don't think you'd find anyone that would disagree with that. I'd rather have Heilmann and Gathright than Pie and Cedeno.
  19. Jay Wright is one of the best coaches in the nation. The kid made a dumb pass, thankfully it didn't cost Nova. I know he's a Philly guy and he should have another great team next season, but if UK isn't trying whatever they can to hire Wright, they are dumb.
  20. 1. I never said Rondell White was the only one. I was just saying that certain teams seemed to be at the center of it, leading me to believe that some teams had a higher percentage of players using them compared to others. 2. I'm pretty sure Tim or someone else did a statistical analysis showing that veteran's performances actually did improve under Dusty in San Francisco. 1. Just because some teams had more guys get caught doesn't mean those teams had more guys doing it. 2. I'd love to see the study if someone has a link. I'd be glad to read it with an open mind,
  21. To run the Dodgers. I question whether Alderson can succeed without most of his players taking steroids. Most of those good A's teams had Canseco, Tejada, Giambi... mulder, zito, hudson... Given Mulder and Zito's history, I'm not sure they're the best examples to refute my statement I don't understand what you're getting at. I think it's safe to assume a majority of baseball players in the early 2000s were juicing. Should we also question the merits of other executives who ran successful teams in this era? I think that certain teams (i.e. the Giants, A's, Rangers, Baltimore, etc.) seemed to be more heavily involved with steroids than other teams. For example, the only Cub I've read about taking steroids while on the team was Rondell White (actually I think there was one other in the Mitchell report), and I don't know of any White Sox players. Remember Dusty Baker's ability to "get the most" out of veterans? I think we now have the explanation for why that was. I'm not saying that Alderson isn't a good executive, but I do think it's worth questioning how much some of these executive's (and manager's) success was due to lax supervision compared to other teams. Nonsense. PED's have been in baseball for a long time. This wasn't something 3 or 4 teams were doing. Rondell White was far from the only Cub on the juice. As for Dusty's ability to "get the most" out of veterans, I would likley chalk that up to ficton spouted by foolish baseball writers, like "ozzyball" and Torre's intangibles and all that nonsense.
  22. And you've been wrong all along. 1. He's still there, so they can afford him for now. 2. Peavy will go to any team that will pick up his option. What about that do not understand? Let me repeat it in case you didn't catch it. PEAVY WILL GO TO ANY TEAM THAT PICKS UP HIS OPTION. PEAVY WILL GO TO ANY TEAM THAT PICKS UP HIS OPTION. PEAVY WILL GO TO ANY TEAM THAT PICKS UP HIS OPTION. Do you really honestly think he'd turn down a trade to LA, Mil, NYY, Sea, or any other club willing to pick up his option because he's so dead set on being a Cub? YOU DON'T KNOW THAT. YOU DON'T KNOW THAT. YOU DON'T KNOW THAT. Look I can repeat myself in all caps, too. I don't think he would automatically refuse a trade to anyone but us, but I also don't think he would go to Pittsburgh or a bunch of other teams even if they picked up his option.
  23. That would be terrific. Hopefully he'll bring DePo with him.
  24. Nobody wants to be on the White Sox.
  25. If he is cheap, go for it. He'll probably outproduce Marshall and with the injury risks in our rotation another option wouldn't be a bad thing. I thought he said before he wasn't going to sign with anyone until mid summer.
