  1. We have a lot of good hitters, but no superstar. We have a very good rotation, but no true ace we can count on for next year. Trade whoever it takes other than Soto for Peavy. 1. Get a good owner. 2. Vitters, Ceda, Theriot, Castillo, Atkins, Cashner (as a PTBNL), Samardzija (pay him to waive the NTC), Pie, Colvin for Peavy/Greene. 3. Give Manny 2 years/$50M 4. Bring back Demp and Wood, all other free agents can go. 5. Give Marquis away 6. Sign a middle reliever like Juan Cruz. 7. Try to convice Fukudome to go back to Japan. He won't go. Soriano, Lee, Manny, ARam, Soto, DeRosa, Fukudome, Greene, P Peavy, Harden, Z, Dempster, Lilly Wood, Marmol, Cruz, Guzman, Marshall, Cotts, whoever Fontonot, Johnson, Hoff, Cedeno, Hill Line up is pretty much all righties. I don't care. Bullpen looks thin, I guess. We have 0 prospects left. Payroll will probably be over 160M, probably not realistic, but I'm not in the mood to be realistic yet.
  2. I like Cain, but I think Prince alone gets that deal done.
  3. Resign Wood and Dempster. Howry, Blanco, Ward, Edmonds can go. Give Marquis to whoever pays most of his salary. Offer John Smoltz a 1 year deal. Decent base, Incentives up to $16M based on IP. If they are available make a run at Beltran, Magglio, or Holliday. Dunn, Burrell, or Abreu are good backup options.
  4. The Reds announcers said earlier the Brewers are carrying 14 pitchers right now, and Yovani can hit, so that is why they didn't pinch hit. They have no bench.
  5. I heard the Levine thing as well. He was asked if any other teams were interested in the Cubs "extra" starting pitchers. He said he knew Boston and Anaheim were interested in Marquis and said if it is a deal with Boston, Crisp will be coming back. It didn't sound like he was throwing Crisp out as an idea, rather saying if Marquis is traded to Boston he had no doubt it would be for Coco. That said, he is Bruce Levine, so it's all probably BS anyway.
  6. I don't think Greenspan should be conducting this investigation. He is the guy who brought in Kelvin, and he must know a lot of people want him out with Sampson. I would prefer someone from the University side or a 3rd party did the investigation. The quicker IU cuts the cord, the better the chance that the NCAA is easier on them.
  7. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/01/clarification-.html I know it is Phil Rogers, and we should expect stupidity, but this is even worse than normal. I know it's a blog, but how does this get printed? Does he have a Hall of Fame vote? Sad.
  8. 16-1 (5-0), should be #7 in both polls tomorrow. Not bad for a team that "would not be in the top 4 in the A-10."
  9. Haha. Your bitterness amuses me. I guess it has come to this for you, huh? For what it's worth, I expect this to be a pretty close game most of the way through. Illinois has "been in" all of their losses until near the end. I think it will be within 6 or 7 until the last 5 minutes and then I Do Know Exactly Who That Is will help IU pull away to a 10-15 point win. We'll see though, who would have picked Iowa winning 43-36 over MSU last night?
  10. I know this has not been discussed in a few pages, but I'm bored... Why is it assumed that DeRosa will not end up as the SS? At this point last year Theriot was not considered an option for SS. If I recall it was quite a big deal last season when Theriot started playing SS, that they didn't know if he could handle it. Izturis was horrible, Cedeno didn't perform in his (very limited) chances early in the year and Lou tried Theriot at SS, and it stuck. So if Theriot sucks (which is pretty likley) and DeRosa and Roberts (assuming this ever happens) are playing well, would anyone really be surprised to see DeRosa at SS? You can say they think Theriot is good, but they thought Izturis was good at this point last season. I don't think DeRosa will be the opening day SS, but I don't expect DeRosa to be rotting on the bench while Theriot starts everyday with a .320 OBP. That is all... These O's "insiders" are just going to predict this trade will happen every week until it happens and then claim they predicted it.
  11. DJ White is a monster. 21 and 22 tonight. Next up is the Illini in Bloomington. This should be fun. Good effort for Purdue tonight. They lost to MSU by 3 in East Lansing.
  12. I had the score on this afternoon and Offman said the Cubs asked about Nathan and the Twins asked for Marmol. He didn't say if the Cubs were considering it, but that is probably because he is George Offman and he has no sources anyway.
  13. I would start White and Evans. I need to start 1 of these receivers... Dwayne Bowe vs. Ten Justin Gage vs. KC Reggie Williams vs. Pit Bowe has been slumping, so I was leaning towards Williams, but Williams has the worst matchup and snow in the forcast. I guess I should stick with Bowe one more week?
  14. I'm sure this will cheer up you Illini fans... Armon Bassett is suspended (no reason given) and not playing for IU today. Eric Gordon is also not playing due to his injury. Jordan Crawford returns from his suspension today, and AJ Ratiff is academically eligible again next Saturday. Today's game with UK doesn't look nearly as good as it did an hour ago.
  15. So if Roberts is traded to the Cubs it might not happen for a long time or it might happen quickly, and it might include some of those players. Way to go out on a limb, ESPN!
  16. According to what I heard Kap say tonight, the plan would be to have DeRosa play 1 day a week at 2B, 1 day a week in the OF (either Soriano or Fukudome getting a day off), 1 day a week at a corner infield spot, and then the rest of the time be a bench option. For whatever reason the Cubs really seem to think he is more valuable playing 3-4 days a week than 6-7 days a week.
  17. Not sure if it has been mentioned, but Kap talked Cubs from 7-8. He said this Roberts stuff is very serious. They had an O's beat guy on and he speculated Murton and Gallagher would get it done. Kap asked about Pie, and the Baltimore guy didn't think they could get him for Roberts. Also, Kap said he heard from "great sources," that the Cubs plan A at this point is Fukudome in RF, Roberts at 2B, and Chone Figgens in CF. Fukudome is priority #1. He seemed to imply the Cubs would part with Pie to make this happen if possible. I almost never listen to Kap, is he credible?
  18. Don't like them, but UCLA is #1 in my book. Fine, I don't like your school either. :) That's ok, nobody likes IU. Eric Gordon does. :D
  19. Is davenport even playing? I know it has him listed as available, but he just got arrested or something recently, will those troubles keep him out of any games? Yeah, he's playing, but I went with Jacobs and Norwood. Watch Davenport score 2 TD's tonight now.
  20. With LT out, I'm in bad shape with running backs this week. I need to start 2 of these guys... B. Jacobs (vs. SF) --- Questionable D. Ward (vs. SF) --- Probable N. Davenport (vs. Den) J. Norwood (vs. NO) I'm leaning towards Ward and Davenport. What do you think?
  21. To clarify: I am not saying they should throw money around. I am asking why seemingly everyone assumes they can't when their situation appears to be the same as it was last winter.
  22. Everyday I read or hear that the Cubs will have very little money to spend this offseason due to the stalled sale. Have they come out and said this? If not, why is this assumed to be true? I know they have a bunch of raises due next season, but they also have Floyd, Barett/Kendall, Izturis off the books and I think they could move Jones and Dempsters salaries if they wanted to. The Tribune went out and spent a bunch of money in long-term contracts last offseason because they knew they were selling the team and would not have to pay off the contracts. Why would this offseason be any different? If they are concerned about adding long-term debt to the franchise that could hurt the value of the team, they sure didn't act like it last winter when they were in the same situation. What would stop them from throwing huge money at A-Rod and letting the next owner pay it off? Isn't that what they thought they were doing with Soriano?
  23. In no order, without putting too much thought into it I would gladly do all of these trades... Angels - Z for Santana/Wood D'Backs - Z, Izturis for Stephen Drew, Chad Tracy, Jailen Peguero Dodgers - Z, Dempster for Chad Billingsly, Jonathan Broxton, Matt Kemp Yankees - Z, Dempster for A-Rod (Extensions for both teams) Rangers - Z, Guzman for Tex (extensions for both teams) Mets - Z for Mike Pelfrey, Lasting Milledge Yankees - Z for Phillip Hughes + "B" Prospect
