  1. I think they're all yelling about position players. Pitchers don't count. [-( how many years ago was that? 18-20? how does that translate to developing today's players? I don't think anyone said it had any significant relation to today's Cubs organization. I was just wondering who the last good position player we developed was. I even mentioned it was "Off Topic" when it was brought up. Ah. My bad. We certainly aren't a stud producing factory, that's for sure. It's kind of sad considering how many high draft picks we had. You'd think losing would have helped us out in that fashion. You'd think we would have lucked into 1 World Series win in the last 97 years too, but we're the Cubs.

  3. Sadly I think you're right about it requiring Zambrano or Prior to get Tejada. We're not the only team that would love to land Tejada this offseason, and the Orioles will be getting trade offers that would net them very good, PROVEN players (like Manny). If the Cubs were the only team interested in Tejada, something along the lines of Pie+Cedeno+Williams and/or Hill might work. But unfortunately we're not the only team. That beind said I'd rather not lose Prior or Z. JCs right - upper tier pitchers are availble every season, but they recently have been getting absurd salaries. I'd rather keep Prior and Z at reasonable price for as long as we can. To use your examples, I think Baltimore would be better off with Pie, Cedeno Williams/Hill + $10 million saved, than with Manny.
  4. JC, First of All, GO IU!. That said....No way I trade Zambrano for Tejada. Z has the stuff to dominate for 10+ more years, and he has already done it at the Big League level.
  5. I don't know if anyone is saying that. The future ones MIGHT work out, but by looking at the past we can see that is far from a lock. Miggy is as close to a lock as you will find. His numbers the last 6 or 7 years are very consistent. That's why it is worth the risk, to me anyway.
  6. Off topic but this list made me wonder...Who was the last everyday player to come through the Cubs system and have a career like the guys on the list above?
  7. The Cubs and O's are in very different situations. The Cubs have the highest payroll in their division and already have the pitching to be a serious postseason contender. The O's aren't even close. They are the 4th best team in their division (with Tampa catching up) and that is with Miggy. Then factor in that he is asking for a trade. If they do decide to deal him it would be in their best interests to try to get 3-4 young pitchers who could have an impact on the club (while being cheap, too) for a number of years. Add in Bedard and Cabrera and they could have the pitching to contend in the AL EAst for a few years. If I'm Baltimore I would seriously consider Williams, Hill, Wuertz, and Cedeno. I would prolly take that deal if I was either team.
  8. Call me an idiot, but I might do that deal. I still hold on to Williams for depth this year or to trade for a RF. Cedeno is superfluous if I get Tejada. Guzman has a great ceiling, but I can't overlook the injury risk. I'd probably make that trade. Might? I'd jump at it.
  9. I think they would want more of an impact player. They are not looking to dump $$$. Williams and a decent prospect to Arizona for Vasquez. Vasquez, Cedeno, Pie to Baltimore for Tejada. I'm dreaming.
  10. My early prediction: He ends up on the Red Sox in a 3-way deal for Manny.
  11. Think Williams, Pie, and Cedeno would get it done? Pierre Walker Lee Tejada A-Ram Bradley Murton Barrett WOW!
  12. Great trade for Texas. With the surplus of outfieders maybe we could get Wilkerson from them (more likley Mench).
  13. Consider the source there. I would be willing to bet that nearly every MLB team has had discussions with the Reds about one of their outfielders. The radio report may be incorrect, but I'm sure there have at least been very basic discussions about the Reds crowded outfield.
  14. Neify wants to be a Cub.
  15. Where was that reported? And that's a better offer than this one from Oakland.
  16. Cubs Get: Dunn, Wilkerson Reds Get: Livan Hernandez, Rich Hill, Nolasko, $ 3M from Cubs Nationals Get: Williams, Patterson, Harvey, "B" Prospect from Reds
  17. In Detroit? That was Mike Brown. But I agree with your point. Edit: I'm dumb...I think it was Tillman. Go Bears!
  18. http://oakland.athletics.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051205&content_id=1276725&vkey=news_oak&fext=.jsp&c_id=oak It seems that Bradley to Oakland talks are getting serious. It isn't like a MLB.com site to name names in rumored trades unless there is some weight behind it. I bet Bradley to Oakland happens this week. With him out of the picture (if he is) it makes Wilkerson in CF and Kearns in RF slightly more tolerable. I would still like to see a big-time bat in RF, but those aren't easy to come by.
  19. If so, sign him up. I'm sure he would go to NY, Arlington or retire, but the Cubs have some serious cash to spend and there are not many players available worthly of getting that cash. I realize there is no chance in hell of us signing him.
  20. I expect Grossman to get 1 or 2 series this weekend if he is healthy. They really need to make that switch as soon as possible. The Bears are going to have to win out to have any shot at the 1 seed. Other than hosting the Colts in Week 16 Seattle should win out. The Colts may even be sitting guys at that point.
  21. It starts and ends with #54.
  22. Where did Gammons say this? Sportscenter?
  23. Banned WOO! Banned WOO! Too bad I won't be chanting ZITO WOO! ZITO WOO! from the bleachers next season.
  24. I'm sure Melbourne Australia would pick up the story before Chicago. Enough man. Can I get a "He gone!"?
  25. Nothing on the Cubs.com message boards is reliable. Please don't post rumors from there without any kind of real source. edit: At least say in your rumor mongouring post the real source of it is some dude on the Cubs.com forum.
