  1. WALKER! This should buy him another week of playing time, or get him traded.
  2. Miles = 2004 Womak He's 2-2 with a triple and 2 rbi's so far. I know it's the 4th inning of the 1st game, but he seems like he could be one of those awful players who plays over his head for the Cards.
  3. We are a few days away. Is Wrigley done? Anyone know where to get pics?
  4. source: MLBtraderumors.com This had better be someone's idea of April Fool's. Did anybody NOTICE that they didn't quote a source...outside of itself? No heard it from a guy I know inside the Brewers or Cubs org, no quote from a newspaper writer for either city..nothing. 80% chances this is an April Fools' Joke. A couple of questions you had to asked yourself: 1: Why would the Brewers trade their 2nd most valuable veteran hitter on the cusp of contending for the NL Central? 2: With an already underachieving bloated payroll, why would the Cubs trade three valuable CHEAP young players who could help the Cubs more then Carlos Lee would? Neither question would be answer in this trade scenerio, so this deal doesn't make sense (I rather have Lee then Soriano), so I figure this deal is close to happening. I'm sure it's fake. To answer your questions though... 1. The Brewers would do it because they would be robbing us. They get rid of a hig salary, add a productive young OF under team control for 5 years, add a potential #2 starter in Guzman, and also add Hill. They would be crazy to turn that down. 2. The Cubs could potentially justify this trade by saying we have a surpluss of young pitching arms. 9 starters for 5 spots in the rotation when everyone is healthy. They would also say Lee's experience and ability to drive in runs is a major improvement over Murton. (Note: I don't feel this way, but I could see Hendry feeling this way) It's gotta be fake though. We would get completly robbed in that trade.
  5. Bobby Abreu Then what are we waiting for? Ask Hendry. The Phils reportedly offered Abreu for Prior this offseason. My thoughts exactly. DONE DEAL. What was the problem? The problem is maybe Hendry is reluctant to trade a 25 year old ace who is under team control for 3 more seasons, who is one of the most talented pitchers in baseball. I know we are all frustrated by his injuries, but a lot of them have really been unavoidable fluke injuries (hit by line drive, collission with Giles). I like Abreu as much as the next guy, but I'm not trading Prior for him. Abreu makes about 3 times what Prior does and is on the wrong side of 30. Plus he had a rather significan regression last season, especially in the 2nd half. I have faith that Prior will get healthy and stay healthy, and if he does he will compete for many Cy Youngs.
  6. NL West: Dodgers NL Central:Cubs (What the hell) NL East: Braves NL Wild Card: Brewers AL West: A's AL Central: Indians AL East: Yankees AL Wild Card: Red Sox NLCS: Cubs over Dodgers ALCS: Yankees over Red Sox World Series: Cubs over Yankees I just had a really weird moment of hope, but I'm gonna go with it.
  7. Oh my. Kruk just said the Cubs should trade Prior to the Yankees for Cano near the All-Star break. I guess the bigger question is why am I watching Kruk.
  8. I wouldn't object to flipping Murton and Jones. Or Murton and Walker, then Jones and Walker. I'd like to see Murton hit 2nd or 5th in this lineup. Gotta pick your battles. If this is the opening day lineup we use I'm happy. At least it has all the right players in it.
  9. MLB can do whatever it wants. MLB is a private club, protected by Federal legislation. The White Sox players were acquited in a trial and still got banned. I don't think it really matters what is done to the players who are "proved" to have used steroids. It's about exposing the guilty. It's about showing the fans all of the evidence against those who used steroids. If they can finally prove that Bonds/Big Mac/Sosa/whoever was a steroid user beyond a reasonable doubt, this will be a success. Selig has done a very good job in the last 2 years of cleaning up a mess that he was probably partially to blame for. The current steroid punishments are excellent, the testing policy is going in the right direction, and I expect this investigation to provide information about the recent history of the game. I like it.
  10. Results of the investigation WILL be made public.
  11. Nice straw man. I think Paxson will make the team better this off season. Overpaying for a name player won't accomplish that, and Paxson's moves to date suggest he recognizes that. I would trade both the picks in a Garnett deal though. I used to think that too but Garnett is acting more and more like T.O. lately. And if we know one thing about Paxson and Skiles, we know they hate guys that aren't total team guys. I don't think KG is right to ask out of Minny, but he isn't T.O. I would offer Nocioni, Duhon, Sweetney, and the Bulls #1 pick for KG and Jaric. If Minny went for that (which I doubt) we could also draft Aldridge or Thomas. PG Captain Kirk SG Gordon SF Deng PF KG C Chandler With Aldridge or Thomas, Jaric, Songalia, and company off the bench. Lots of size with KG and Chandler...decent scoring from 4 of the 5 starters...1 superstar.
  12. It will be either: 1. Few 1b. Rick Barnes 1c. Tom Crean 4. Randy Wittman. My money is on Crean, but they are making a run at Few.
  13. Vikings sign Mike McMahon to backup Brad Johnson. Do the Bears have the best QB situation in their division? Bears: Rex, Griese, Orton Packers: Favre (Maybe), Rogers Lions: Kitna, McCown Vikings: Johnson, McMahon It's always hard to tell, but next year is shaping up well for the Bears in this division. 3 new head coaches. We have the best D in the Division. I would take our RB situation over any other team in the Division. I would take our QB's over any other team in the division. Hopefully in the draft and the rest of free agency we can get a play-making tight end and some depth in the secondary.

someone big. Aldridge, Davis, that type. As in Paul Davis? With a lottery pick? Paul Davis is a late first rounder at best. If the Bulls were to take Davis with a lottery pick, I'd be really wondering what the hell Pax is thinking. I may be wrong, but I think he meant "Baby Shaq" Glen Davis from LSU. He's slighty more Shaq than Harold Minor was Jordan. He is a lottery pick though. I vote for Aldridge with the Knicks pick, and if Noah is available when we pick, I would love to have him.
  15. Don't worry about the length, it's an NFL contract. # of years doesn't mean anything. Great signing for DA Bears! Now let's get Charles Woodson (isn't he a FA?) and Leonard Pope.
  16. Gutsy Prediction: Soriano and Livan Hernandez come to the Cubs with some cash in exchange for Walker, Welly, and a few pretty good pitching prospects before April 3rd. *Probably won't happen, and it probably shouldn't happen.
  17. Off topic, but I think your Sig is wrong. Indiana won their 1st round Tourney game in 2003 as the 7 seed over 10th seeded Alabama. IU then lost to Pittsburgh (the 2 seed) in the 2nd round at the Fleet Center. BEAT THE ZAGS!
  18. MSU is falling apart UCONN style...down by 9 with under 4 min to go. GO GREAT DANES!
  19. I'm on the Albany bandwagon. I hope they ruin my bracket.
  20. Maybe. Even better would be if we were "forced" to keep walker to start the season and he has a .300 BA with a .360 OBP at the break. Then they might be "forced" to keep him all year. If all we can get for him is Matos, what's the point of trading him? I know it isn't the only reason, but they are way too bent out of shape by his comments. I don't think his were any worse than Neifi's comments a few weeks ago, plus Neifi sucks.
  21. Just what we need---another deal where we give up a reasonably productive player and pay him to play for another team. I got a better idea, why don't we keep them and pay them to play for the Cubs. So...Hairston, Hill, Guzman, Pie + @2 Million for Miggy Cabrera. Sounds good to me.
  22. Tough Loss for IU. They played poorly, but with a lot of heart. Hopefully Vaden will be ok for next weekend. IU is looking at an 8/9 seed I think. Funny thing...If Ohio State wins and gets a 1 seed, then IU will have to be put in Villinoiva's bracket is we are indeed a 8/9. You are not able to play a team you faced in the regular season on the 1st weekend if it is at all avoidable, and the Hoosiers have played Uconn, Duke, and OSU this year.
  23. Decent first half for the Hoosiers. After a poor start, they turned it up and have a 1 point lead. Grest job by Wilmont and Strickland in the 1st half pacing the Hoosiers. I wouldn't be shocked if Dials and Marco lose some self-control in the 2nd half.
