  1. Oden would be a force on defense and on the glass right now in the NBA. I haven't seen a player that big and athletic in college since Shaq. I really hope he declares this summer.
  2. Does what go back in history? If you're talking about PER, you can find historical player data -- including PER -- at http://www.basketball-reference.com. The numbers there don't quite match up with Hollinger's numbers at ESPN, so I suspect the guy at Basketball Reference is using one of Hollinger's older formulas. But the data's still useful.
  3. Seriously? That's a really small sample and a poor way to compare the two. How so? I just prefer Hollinger's PER stat over your college-attended metric. :)
  4. I think you're underestimating Hinrich's talents. He's a solid NBA starting guard. Duhon's the player that has no business in a starting lineup, but that's on Skiles to fix. Paul is an elite PG at 21. The sky's the limit with him. You're wearing some serious homer goggles if you think Deron's in his class.
  5. Did you just accuse me of being a homer? That's hilarious. No way we're having this conversation if Deron had attended a different college. Williams would be an improvement over Hinrich. Not a huge improvement, and certainly not worth a number one pick in additional to Kirk in a trade.
  6. Hollinger projected a 16.21 PER for Hinrich this season. He's currently at 14.71, down from 15.56 last year and 15.30 the year before. As I said before, I think Kirk will pick it up before the season's over. He's been a more productive player after the All-Star break the past couple of seasons. We'll see if that trend holds true. For the curious, Deron's PER is currently 17.89 and Paul's is 22.61. (Unrelated to this discussion, Gordon's at 19.16. It just makes me happy to type that.)
  7. Probably, but it's close. I think their PER's will be very close by season's end, and Hinrich's a better defensive player. Besides, it's not like the Bulls drafted Hinrich instead of Williams. Neither one is Chris Paul; that's for certain. Oops, Utah. No, it really isn't close. Deron Williams is a far superior defender to Kirk Hinrich, a better playmaker, and might end up being the better shooter. Chris Paul is good, but Utah got who they wanted. Paul would have a hard time playing for Sloan, what with having to play defense and all. The notion that Williams is a better defensive player than Hinrich is laughable, and the difference between Paul and Deron is greater than the difference between Deron and Kirk.
  8. Probably, but it's close. I think their PER's will be very close by season's end, and Hinrich's a better defensive player. Besides, it's not like the Bulls drafted Hinrich instead of Williams. Neither one is Chris Paul; that's for certain. Oops, Utah.
  9. Yet his .427 FG% this season is the highest it's been in his NBA career. Kirk needs to cut down on his turnovers. I think he'll turn it around.
  10. 17-point spanking of the "best" team in the East. How sweet it is. I despise the Pistons.

I don't know about that. OK had 12 games of film on Boise State that was filled with trick plays to watch, and they still got beat by a hook and ladder, an option pass, and a statue of liberty. None of those trick plays are exactly new.
  12. 13-3 in December to date.
  13. No, the Bulls would draw the Raptors, who are currently the 4 seed. The Bulls and Cavs are essentially tied at the moment, too. Both 2 games back of the Pistons.
  14. That rule change only affects the top three records in the conference. It will be interesting to see where the Cavs are at at the end of January.
  15. He didn't play another minute. Are you suggesting some member of the Bulls should have jumped on him right then during the break in the action and gotten suspended for 15+ games? I don't see any value in that.
  16. The game was too close at that point. And Posey was ejected.
  17. Someone needs to break Posey's legs.
  18. They're not. The Bulls are giving up 95.9 PPG and their +3.9 point differential is tops in the eastern conference. I think you're overreacting to a bad game in an outstanding month for the team. I could understand the hyperbolic comments in November. But now? C'mon. They're playing great. Time to start another win streak. Enjoy it.
  19. Yeah, the Bulls' point differential and strength of schedule indicate they're better than their record. They're also 9-2 this month. Can't win 'em all, and the Knicks are on a bit of a hot streak as Shavo suggests. They might win 35 this year. :D
  20. I'm a happy man when the stats guy is a fan. This one's for TT:
  21. Agreed. 9-1 in December to date.
  22. You should attend more Bulls games.
  23. With 15 points and 5 blocks.
  24. He has a third choice: Play two more years in Japan and become one of the top FA prizes of the 2008 off season. He'll be 28 if he takes that path. The big loser would be Seibu if that happens, not Daiske. And possibly the Red Sox after he signs with the Yankees. Of course he's taking a risk himself in that third choice - injury or something else limiting the amount of money he gets in 2008. Injury's always a risk. I wouldn't bet on his performance declining over the next couple years given his age and history, though. I suspect he'd put up better numbers in Japan over the next two years.
