  1. Well he is a Mets fan...cut him some slack, he probably given himself short term memory loss from banging his head after his team has choked at the end of the season the last two years.
  2. Give him a break, he probably has short term memory loss from banging his head against a wall after the last two years of choke jobs at the end of the season..afterall he is a Met's fan.
  3. Well Lee has value, so I wouldn't out and out drop him. Trade him away to a team that needs pitching. Heck, you can even wait a while until its after a good start...Buchholz isn't getting called up anytime soon (assuming Penny's shoulder doesn't fall off) so if no one has pounced on him by now then they probably won't for a while. If both are available and you're asking who to chose now, chose Slowey, you can sit on Buchholz. But also if you're asking who to chose now and Slowey is a FA then you're either in way too shallow of a league or your league-mates are idiots.
  4. I'd rather have Buchholz. Hes got more blocking him to get to the rotation, but he has the higher ceiling and this is a dynasty league so future production matters a lot. Slowey will obviously give you better production now, and very good production down the road, but I think the clincher is the fact that Buchholz pitches for a much better team.
  5. Just abandon the team. If that guy just wants to compete against himself, then let him compete against himself. Thats what you get for joining a random public league.
  6. Even if you are going to end up in RF (which is dumb), get in the left field line for the bleachers, typically much much shorter. I don't want to get into the RF sucks, LF sucks, becuase thats really lame, just that LF bleachers typically fill up later than RF bleachers and as mentioned previously, Soriano is very very interactive and fun to watch. Anywho, I'll be sitting in section 206 for opening day since I've officially become too lazy for the bleachers.
  7. Assume Harden goes down for a significant amount of time and we are forced to add Shark to the rotation. Name one team in the Central that will have a better rotation than the Cubs. Also, name one Central team with a better starting lineup than the Cubs. Go ahead. I'll be waiting patiently for your reply. Using PECOTA, if we give Harden's 155 innings to Shark, the Cubs starting rotation (Z, Lilly, Dempster, Shark, and Marshall) is projected to have a composite ERA of 4.76 over 845 innings, while the Brewers starting rotation (Gallardo, Suppan, Bush, Parra, Looper) is projected to have composite ERA of 4.45 over 800 innings. So, according to PECOTA, the Brewers would have a better rotation. Clearly, there is no NL Central team with a better lineup than the Cubs, but that wasn't the argument. The fact is that inserting Shark instead of Harden gives back every bit of advantage the Cubs have in the rotation and, according to PECOTA, gives the Brewers the better rotation. I'll be waiting patiently for your patronizing reply. ugh, the Shark is a pitcher Pecota just has no idea how to properly forecast. and i hope i don't have to explain the utter impossibility that Lou would have patience enough to give 150 innings to a guy with a 6 ERA The correct response. Also the gap narrows by adding in 45 innings of whatever God awfulness the Brewers will be throwing in middle relief.
  8. the cardinals ummm, didn't you here?
  9. REJECT REJECT REJECT
  10. the contract is just the standard for picking up someone who was cut I think, right? Or does that not apply since he wasn't claimed off waivers? league min is standard because any more doesn't go to sheff, it offsets the $ the tigers owe him
  11. Same here :( OK people: 1) If this was a trade, it would be in transactions. 2) If we were trading Miles, then how would he not still be a frequent flyer?
  12. Really? That was pretty much where ADP had him pegged. The biggest surpise I had was Danks in the 19th, the guy is just as good as Garza.
  13. 12 teams, 5x5, Roto, 5 keepers C - Chris Iannetta - 14 1B - Joey Votto - 6 2B - Brandon Phillips- k 3B - Adrian Beltre -12 SS - Jimmy Rollins - k MI - Rickie Weeks - 18 CI - Paul Konerko - 17 OF - Ryan Braun - k OF - Josh Hamilton - k OF - Johnny Damon - 9 OF - Jason Werth - 11 Util - Willy Taveras - 16 BN - Hank Blalock - 21 BN - Fred Lewis - 24 BN - Ryan Spilborghs - 25 SP - Tim Lincecum - k SP - Josh Beckett - 7 SP - Joba Chamberlain - 10 SP - Matt Garza - 13 RP - Joakim Soria - 8 RP - Leo Nunez - ww P - John Danks - 19 P - Max Scherzer - 15 BN - Chien-Ming Wang- 20 BN - Kelvim Escobar - ww Obviously, I need saves, saves, and more saves. Unfortunately, I had to be on a plane during most of my draft so I had a friend actually do the mechanics of the draft. I was on the phone though through the first 15 rounds and had given her instructions for the next few rounds. Additionally, I had met with her before and gave her all of my spreadsheets and targets and (ahem) rules of my league...however evidently she didn't realize that I was a bit light on closers. Ohh well. And my league is crazy and either drafted or beat me with higher waiver priority to every single damn closer AND closer in waiting. Anyway, I LOVE my starting pitching (and am looking to trade some of it (Garza)) and am warming up to my offense. I think it'll be at least above average. I think I'll wait a bit until more closer situations get straightened out to figure out who to trade for. What does everyone else think?
  14. Thanks! Now if only we knew anyone who had an in at the Herald :-k
  15. The Daily Herald will no longer be sending their beat writers on the road to cover the Cubs and Sox. http://www.chicagobusiness.com/cgi-bin/article.pl?page_id=2317&plckController=Blog&plckScript=blogScript&plckElementId=blogDest&plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&plckPostId=Blog%3af5555513-c950-4657-a93a-80db16fdf4adPost%3a3d8fe4e8-1736-4e7b-b7a7-deef11c814cf&sid=sitelife.chicagobusiness.com Bruce, what are your thoughts?
  16. Just out of curiosity, why not? Theres just way too much talent in MLB for an 8-10 team league to actually be fun. Take a look at your FA pool, I'm willing to be there are a lot of pretty darn good guys that are freely available. Its sorta like shooting fish in a barrell. Now of course you're competing against a much of other guys who are also shooting fish in a barrell, but how is that fun? Plus with so much talent out there, there isn't any incentive to finding the "next big thing" because there are already a lot of freely available veterans that can provide decent production. I guess a good analogy would be if 3 Harvard grads went on Jeopardy and instead of getting championship week questions they got kids week questions. Sure they'd get them all correct, and there would be a winner and a loser, but do you think they would have fun? On the other end of the spectrum deep AL or NL only leagues are typically too deep. When you have to be rostering guys solely because they will acccumulate ABs (ahem Elvis Andrus), thats not fun. But, if you can only have 8 teams, maybe these leagues would be better for you. Of course then you run into the issue of interleague midseason trades, which could really really suck (reminds me of a really funny Arli$$ episode).
  17. Napoli is pretty darn good...y'all are crazy. But I do like Sandovals versatility a lot so with Napoli's possible slow start due to his shoulder, I'd take Sandoval.
  18. Either you have screwy rules or you are screwy...dropping crawford and morrow?!?!?!
  19. Your pitching is god awful. You have amazing 3b depth and this year 3b is really shallow. Trade it all away for pitching help. Also your SS/MI is pretty weak, but man o man do you need help in your rotation.
  20. Considering hes going to be pitching in AAA, no.
  21. my rating is don't play in an 8 or 10 team league
  22. Do it. Although Burnett isn't the greatest your getting good value for a guy who isn't terribly good and will be closing in a murky situation for a crummy team and a Stewart isn't even a starter.
  23. If you can pick up Downs then you probably should. I saw some video of BJ throwing this ST and it is uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugly.
  24. I'm sure its been said, but when are they going to run the cuse/uconn game on espn classic this weekend (i think they already ran it this morning)?
  25. Jimmie Wynn says hello. Ah, the Toy Cannon. He was playing for the Astros when I first started following baseball. Thats a terrible porn name
