  1. http://draysbay.com/images/admin/bonds.jpg Jeez, he could at least try to smile
  2. what ev? What are you like 75? Its called "w/e"
  3. I whole heartedly agree. Mephs spreadsheet, while incredibly awesome, is based entirely on the premise of ZIPs, James, and PECOTA. They aren't dogma, so adjust as you see differ. I'm a big Phillips fan and think he'll out perform his projections which is part of the reason why I'm keeping him. P.S. I also picked Pena off the waiver wire as soon as he got the regular gig in TB. Same with Braun. Those two moves alone were the difference between finishing 2nd and 5th.
  4. I hate my league and love yours. No one trades. There hasn't been one offseason trade yet. The whole santana for phillips and bedard fiasco (other guy offered the trade, I accepted and then he took it back) prompted most of the league to respond that we should just stop offseason trading. Its pathetic. In the first year of the league there were like 2 trades the entire season. Last year there were probably 15 or so. If I proposed a trade of draft picks I'm afraid a petition might start to have me thrown out of the league. Well enough of that rant...that should make for a really fun draft day for you!!! But at the same time be mindful of the affect on your strategy at the end of the draft. You aren't going be able to partake in the last 3 rounds so take your big upside guys a bit earlier.
  5. If Jones played a great CF it wouldn't hurt as much though but I agree those numbers are not something to build on. Is Colvin a superior defender to Jones? I thought they were about equal (if not Jones being a bit better with a working shoulder) even at this point in both of their careers.
  6. Also, keep an eye on the 2b situation in Colorado. Right now Jeff Baker has the upper hand... Here are his Projections Avg/HR/SB/R/RBI (adjusted to 600 ABs) PECOTA .284/28/4/89/100 Bill James .273/24/5/77/93 Zips .275/22/7/67/91 That'd be pretty nice production from 2b off the waiver wire.
  7. So, I finally did the work and figured out Utley, Upton, Kinsler, Cano, Roberts, and Figgins are going to be kept. That leaves Johnson, Weeks, and Kendrick, Uggla, Polanco, and Kent as suitable players. And we have MI though, so I need to be cognizant of that. I think I'm going to keep Phillips as I haven't found anyone really interested in him. I'd be worried about missing out on Johnson or Kendrick and having to pick 2 from the rest of the pathetic group. If I find that Johnson and Kent are still available in the late teens in the draft, I'll grab them and try to trade Phillips early in the season.
  8. Not even SS? I have to agree that Cabrera>Cubs SS, on paper. And DH (duh) and CF and Closer
  9. Lots of teams will be losing to the Rays this year, with or without Bonds. I would really like to see them be competitive and keep their good young players while adding some good vets. I hear their scouting is the best in MLB! I'm sure thats a credit to LaMar, who himself is one of the better scouts out there (although not so much a good GM).
  10. Hes now director of professional scouting for the Phillies. But I know you were making a joke.
  11. Lots of teams will be losing to the Rays this year, with or without Bonds.
  12. Regardless of power, hes sporting a .032 IsoD in a season and a half of minor league ball. Thats somewhat palpable for a guy who only strikes out 10% of the time, but Colvin does not have that type of contact rate. If the power develops he'll be a 270/300/460 type of guy. La-dee-freakin-da.
  13. Rios' problem was he hit everything in the ground. All of the sudden he started hitting everything in the air and voila. Colvin's problem is he doesn't take walks. If he all o fhte sudden gets some patience and starts taking walks then I can see him being a useful player. Short of that, I don't see him being an average regular.
  14. Yeah, I now believe that in addition to being overrated in the cubs eyes, yes also overrated in BAs eyes. Sure, hes a 5 tool player, he just doesnt do any of them well. He gets a lot of heat around here and I think there's a decent chance he'll develop into a halfway decent OF. However, the more I look at his numbers, the more down on him I get. Maybe he "looks like a baseball player" or whatever, but it's so rare to see a guy make it to the majors with those kinds of walk rates and play at an above average level. The clincher is that he'll have to move from CF to a corner. His offense was going to be passable as a CF, but it will be putrid as a corner OF.

  16. Didn't see it posted.... http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/top-100-prospects/2008/265655.html BA's top 100 is out...and free. Cubs: Fukudome---30 Vitters---43 GEOVANY SOTO---47 Colvin---75 Gallagher---82
  17. I've heard a lot of weariness I'll call it from non-fanboy Mets fans. This is an old and injury prone team that doesn't have sufficient plan B's in place. Sure they have some awesome guys in their lineup in Wright, Reyes and Beltran, but they also have major risks in Delgado, Castillo, and Alou with crappy players like Endy Chavez, Angel Pagan and Ruben Gotay backing them up. If one or a few of their risks go down they are going to have a couple sink holes in their lineup.
  18. And an owner now does not want to trade Howard for Berkman and Bedard because he doesn't see Bedard as a real upgrade over Carmona. ](*,)
  19. While I hate it, its nothing compared to Theriot hitting second. Hes a TLR, #9 hitter.
  20. sometimes they come out late...but at this juncture, you should have them...did you print out your confirmations? I printed out the ones I didn't get confirmation for. I mean the confirmation screen when you bought the tickets, not the confirmation emails.
  21. Was your first pick sizemore and your second pick webb? That doesnt look like a fun league at all. Lots of teams is one thing and can make it interesting, but those stats are sofa king we todd did.
  22. My draft isn't until March 18th, but I'll post the results then.

  24. Brian Roberts is guaranteed to be in one dugout in that game.
