  1. How close is Ryan Dempsters comparability score to Ryan Demspter?
  2. Have you read the article that was posted in this thread?
  3. Well, first, I think you mean "Antonetti". Second, he works for the Indians. Third... or maybe first, you're thinking of DePodesta. I must be missing some kind of joke here, and if so, I look pretty dumb in posting this, but I'm thinking he means Matt Antonelli, Pads 3B prospect. But that begs the question, would they trade us DePo for Murton? We've all been thinking inside the box as Greene as the answer to the cubs problems, but really DePo would be the answer. Murton for DePo!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Nady has 356 career innings in CF. I had hoped you would have known that. Heres the thing about Nady, he has a decent amount of playing time in CF, so someone like Jim Hendry would probably be comfortable platooning him with Pie. However, that time has showed that he is pretty godawful in CF.
  5. But what about Ozzie!!! Can't you think about Ozzie!!!!!
  6. According to that, Goose Island and Mullens are goners. Red Ivy survives. I could care less about Mullens, but I will mourn the hell out of Goose Island. They should move across the street and replace the waste of space that is known as Sluggers.
  7. The limit is usually six tickets per game over the first weekend they go on sale. So, if you need 20 bleacher seats, you're going to need some others to help you out. Can't he do group tickets? Or do they not do bleachers? July 12th is the Giants, so its not going to be too high of demand (although Saturdays sell out before everything else non Sox/Cards). I would advise getting a bunch of people to try. Also, have multiple credit cards (each with a different name and mailing address) ready incase you get through more than once. Parents, syblings, etc. If you open a bunch of windows and have a few other other people do the same and have a few different credit cards, AND go after that day before you try for any other games, you should be able to get 20 tickets.
  8. Holy Crap, its going all the way past Eddy! Then its definitely going to take out Goose Island and probably all the way past Red Ivy (good riddance). That sucks, I love Goose Island to eat before games. I camped out there all day last October for the playoff game where we got eliminated. The outcome sucked but I've always thought they had great food and obviously excellent beer.
  9. A)Winning the World Series is a nearly a crapshoot based on the small sample size of the playoffs B)Baseball is a team sport. Bonds was one player on a 25 man roster. Pretty much 22 of the other players sucked hardcore. Stats do not GO INTO anyting!!! They are measures of outcomes. A "win" is a stat of the # of times a team finishes the game scoring more runs than allowing. Counting stats has nothing to do with being successful, it has to do with accumulating players that ultimately gets you as many wins as possible. If you believe that pitchers are disrupted by basestealers, so be it, but the proof shows otherwise. Just because something goes against common sense and intuitive thought doesnt always mean that its wrong. The key is to evalute the information and actually study it to prove your hypothesis. Sure, a pitcher is thinking about a basestealer when he is on base (unless hes a Padre), and the 2b/SS is shading to cover 2nd, and the catcher is getting in position for a quick release. No one is doubting that. However, you are making a gigantic leap of an assumption that all of those things materialize into an advantage for the batter. If you look at what actually happens you will find that it simply isn't true.
  10. Who was it that led the league in mental RBIs last year? Wait, stats go into the game? I thought they measured outcomes of the game. Now I'm all confused. But I guess if you've "seen plenty of times where the next batter hits a HR", then it must be true!
  11. Really interesting question... I'd have to get the opinion of a bunch of people smarter than me about when Lincecum's and Cain's arms might be subject to falling off. Some scouts think Lincecum is a walking time bomb. Some think he can throw like that forever. Cain worries me a bit more, simply because he looks like a workhorse, so he's been treated like one. Still, he's not in any imminent danger for this season. Either way, with a rotation that sick, we'd be in pretty good shape. I don't care if we have to sign Pedro Feliz to play third... Wouldn't be a bad idea, his defense is really really good.
  12. He's going to knock it down, but build them a new space in the same complex. The owner of IO is excited by that prospect (which I concur with because it can get hot up in there). How far south is it going to go? Is Salt n' Pepper going? I'm assuming Goose Island will still be safe. The hotel is a great idea, but I would not want to live there.
  13. That would make infinitely more sense especially considering the back of rotation comment.
  14. Is he gonna knock down Improv Olympics, er IO?
  15. Those weekends it shouldnt be too tough, especially if you are going to go for a Friday or Sunday game. But you should pretty much have you pick of days if you have a bunch of windows open.
  16. I'd hit him 7th. If Theriot is going to be on the team, hes the best guy for the 8 hole.
  17. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3211113 Interesting... Money qute from BTF comments...
  18. Boise's 2001 Rotation Willis (19)-------2.98 ERA, 7.30 H/9, 0.10 HR/9, 1.83 BB/9, 7.40 K/9 Mitre (20)-------3.07 ERA, 8.41 H/9, 0.20 HR/9, 1.78 BB/9, 7.02 K/9 Guzman (19)----2.23 ERA, 7.98 H/9, 0.23 HR/9, 2.23 BB/9, 7.40 K/9 Wynegar (20)---2.92 ERA, 9.76 H/9, 0.89 HR/9, 2.41 BB/9, 7.99 K/9 Piggy (18)------3.00 ERA, 8.08 H/9, 0.23 HR/9, 2.54 BB/9, 9.58 K/9 What would the world be like if the Marlins would have taken Piggy? I can't blame the cubs for giving up Dontrelle. That was back in the day when they had a ridiculous stable of young starters and he was the one with a funky delivery that advanced hitting could figure out.
  19. They go on sale at 10 AM online and over the phone. I believe the box office at Wrigley starts at 8 AM. And the lottery # for what # is the first wristband is at 6 AM. Wristbands are usually given out Mon-Weds of the week tickets go on sale IIRC. Man do I wish I lived in Chicago and could just head to the stadium. JR I try the wristband lottery every year and never have luck. Its about a 1 in 500 chance that your number will be early enough to matter.
  20. Possibly. And thats why the deal is all the more awesome for the Rays.

  22. Still need more, at least Gallagher. I also don't believe the Padres would turn over Greene and replace him with a risky player like Cedeno. Teams who want to contend don't do that. All of this discussion goes back to an old thread in which I suggested a 3-way deal with the Padres and Pirates. Don't remember all the details, but basically it sent Bay and Jack Wilson to the Padres with Greene (and maybe Hairston) coming to the Cubs while Headley, Murton, Cedeno, Gallagher/Marshall went to the Pirates. Yeah I mentioned that yesterday (and credited you), I think it was in this thread. You should dig it up because I think its the only way it'll happen. My thoughts are that Jack Wilson is fairly undervalued in the market because of his defense (although Huntington probably realizes that). Greene is a great player but isn't the type of guy for his home stadium. While hes obviously a better hitter than Jack Wilson, Wilson can probably be as effective in Petco because hes not such an extreme fly ball hitter (Wilson is roughly middle of the pack, while Greene is far and away the leader for SS). Also, obviously the Padres want a corner OF and there aren't many better than Bay. In your scenario the padres would have to kick in some decent prospects. IIRC, the Padres don't have a great system, but they'd have to contribute something pretty decent. Greene for Wilson is lopsided, but Headley for Bay is way more lopsided. Huntington hasnt done much with his players and has focused more on his staff. Hes stated that the team underacheived and hes not going to sell low, but I think presented with a fair package for both players (with possibly us having to take Morris off his hands), he'd most definitely consider a rebuild of his system. So, I was thinking about a possible alternative to Bay being moved as quotes from Huntington seem to lead you to believe that he wants to hold onto him to build his value back up. How about a Bay-less 3 way (with BTBs permission, of course)? Padres get: Wilson, Murton, Patterson Cubs get: Greene and Nady Pirates get: Cedeno and Hairston Padres get an acceptable replacement for Greene who also provides good defense but has an offense thats better suited for Petco, they get the corner OF upgrade that they want, and a possible option for the future CF hole. Cubs get to move Theriot to the supersub role and replace him with a big defensive and offensive upgrade in Greene. We also get the 4th OF who can play CF to platoon with Pie. Pirates get rid of two of their bigger contracts while replacing them with similar players who will be under their control for longer and at a much cheaper rate. Cubs get Nady and Greene and Pittsburgh gets Cedeno and Hairston? Maybe if Littlefield was still the GM, but that would be a horrible move on Pittsburgh's part to trade Nady and Wilson and only get back Cedeno and Hairston. That would be just about the opposite of a Littlefield move, FYI. Wilson doesn't have much positive value with his contract and if the Pirates hold onto Nady they'll non-tender him next offseason (there was discussion they might this offseason). The lynchpin to the deal would be that Towers and DePo realize that Wilson does have positive value for them due to his defense and that his offense will play better in Petco. Additionally, the SS market is pretty barren and they have no one ready to take over in the farm. Starting with him calling out Castillo last offseason, to being dropped in the order, to being benched, to almost being dealt to the Tigers at the deadline to almost being dealt to the Cards this offseason, its not hard to see the Pirates want to go in a younger, cheaper direction. Maybe I'm overvaluing Cedeno, but hes the type of guy a team like the Pirates should gamble on. I wouldn't mind the cubs throwing a bit more the Pirates way if that makes you happy. I don't think they'd be interested in another starter, but maybe they'd want a reliever. Some Rotoworld quotes. "Still, the Pirates would be better off if Wilson spent the rest of the year (decade?) at the bottom of the lineup" "The Pirates' highest-paid player went 0-for-4, leaving him at .248/.300/.333 for the year. He's just 5-for-41 with RISP. That Wilson is now making his outs from the eighth spot in the lineup, rather than as a No. 2 hitter, means he's not hurting the offense as much as he could be. Still, he needs to be doing some pretty amazing things with the glove to make up for his bat." "Wilson's benching probably won't last much longer, but it seems like the Pirates are souring on him. They might try to trade him next month." ""I asked them, 'Tell my why I'm not playing, so I can fix it,' " Wilson said. "I got the answers I needed. It comes down to consistency. The last few weeks haven't been great for me at the plate, and that doesn't help the team." The Pirates have gone with Jose Castillo at short instead of Wilson the past four games. Wilson could be traded if anyone wants his contract." "Any trade is unlikely to happen until after the July 31 non-waiver deadline, mostly because the Pirates surely will be asked to pick up a significant portion of the $14.25 million Wilson is owed after this season."

The reason I wanted Hairston is because he could cover all 3 OF positions, while Nady could only cover the corners. Nady has 356 innings as a CF, 83 coming in 2007. Hairston has 9.7 innings as a CF, 5 coming in 2007. Nady is a below average defensive CF for sure, but hes got good amount of experience playing there and Hairston has basically none. So, I was thinking from the Jim Hendry perspective that he'd feel more comfortable going with Nady. Also, it makes the trade more even for all teams.

  25. THT did a study a while back and showed the affect was negligeble.
