  1. What he does well is keep us from trading for Marlon Byrd.
  2. Dont you know its illegal to propose a three way deal without the express written consent of BTB?
  3. Still need more, at least Gallagher. I also don't believe the Padres would turn over Greene and replace him with a risky player like Cedeno. Teams who want to contend don't do that. All of this discussion goes back to an old thread in which I suggested a 3-way deal with the Padres and Pirates. Don't remember all the details, but basically it sent Bay and Jack Wilson to the Padres with Greene (and maybe Hairston) coming to the Cubs while Headley, Murton, Cedeno, Gallagher/Marshall went to the Pirates. Yeah I mentioned that yesterday (and credited you), I think it was in this thread. You should dig it up because I think its the only way it'll happen. My thoughts are that Jack Wilson is fairly undervalued in the market because of his defense (although Huntington probably realizes that). Greene is a great player but isn't the type of guy for his home stadium. While hes obviously a better hitter than Jack Wilson, Wilson can probably be as effective in Petco because hes not such an extreme fly ball hitter (Wilson is roughly middle of the pack, while Greene is far and away the leader for SS). Also, obviously the Padres want a corner OF and there aren't many better than Bay. In your scenario the padres would have to kick in some decent prospects. IIRC, the Padres don't have a great system, but they'd have to contribute something pretty decent. Greene for Wilson is lopsided, but Headley for Bay is way more lopsided. Huntington hasnt done much with his players and has focused more on his staff. Hes stated that the team underacheived and hes not going to sell low, but I think presented with a fair package for both players (with possibly us having to take Morris off his hands), he'd most definitely consider a rebuild of his system.

  5. Link Thanks. I blame Garwilly for unnecessarily making me start to worry a bit. Last year I didn't have to leave for work until 11 AM, so I had a successful hour of ticket buying before that. But this year I won't be in a rush. I figure I may pick up a cheap router and borrow a crappy laptop to see how many windows I can have open. I figure I should be able to easily get over 500, although I need to check to see how much memory a Firefox window with 40 or 50 tabs takes up. Not that much. I had an easy 600 windows open last year on a middle of the road laptop. 18 firefox windows with 34 tabs apiece or something like that That's what it seemed like the last year or two, but I've been convinced that I do better with IE windows, so I've usually just loaded up with IE6, which isn't the best memory efficient plan. So is this the best way to buy tickets the day they go one sale? Just wondering because the last couple of years I have had no luck at all getting in on the good game tickets (IE Cubs/White Sox, Cubs/Cards). Just have as many windows open to the waiting room as my system will allow? Another question, does the system pick people at random or is there basically a virtual line, meaning who ever lined up first in the virtual waiting room gets first dibs when they go on sale? Oh and looks like you guys use FireFox instead of IE. Is there a specific reason Firefox besides the typical "its better then IE"? Thanks guys, all the info will help. I have ended up buying scalpers price tickets for games the last three years and honestly won't be able to do it this year. We have a new baby girl, she will be 8-12 months old when she goes to her first Cubs game. So I definitely need to pay face value :) Jim The best thing to do is use multiple computers and multiple people. I have about a half dozen or so friends that I organize. I take the day off of work and use 3 computers myself and coordinate communication and keep track of who got what and what everyone should be trying to get. I've never not been able to get at least one game of every series I've wanted and usually get multiple days (cubs/sox for example). Sometimes I'm the one whos lucky, sometimes its someone else, sometimes its all of us working together. The key is to spread the risk out. Firefox is better than IE because it uses less memory so you can open up more windows/tabs. I use both, but have had better luck with IE, but I'm guessing thats coincidence.
  6. If it wasn't for my horse, I never would've spent that year in college. Nice old school Lewis Black quote.
  7. Grinder Rule #48. If you don't have to have one of your testicals surgically removed because you try so hard, you are playing like a Flub. Ohh and you're gay. And I want to knife you. And did I mention we won the World Series?
  8. http://images.mccoveychronicles.com/images/admin/BeatDeadHorse.gif I don't even want to know what that dude is doing with his left hand.
  9. God, he'd be a lock to hit 30 HRs a year with the Green Monster.
  10. Not too horribly unrealistically I'd like Soriano Fukudome Lee Ramirez Soto Pie DeRosa Pitcher Theriot
  11. I always sit in bleachers, except for the Fathers Day game. My thoughts: I actually like the 200s, but you have to be very careful. You need to be in the first few rows to not have to deal with the pole (depends on the section). If I'm not in the bleachers I try to be as close to behind homeplate as possible, so sometimes thats in the 200s. Of non-bleachers though 419-422 are the best IMO. Although, they are definitely (other than 100 level) the hardest to get as many of them are season ticket holders and there are less seats in those sections. Seats I DO NOT recommend are roughly sections 528-538 when the sun will be setting during the game. You will be absolutely blinded. Additionally, a lot of times you can buy single tickets for the rooftops for $75 or so. THATS the best deal in Wrigley...all you can eat, all you can drink, and hey, a baseball game will be going on too! Really though, any ticket is a pretty good ticket in or around Wrigley.
  12. Does that mean Cotts lasted longer? We win! The Cubs should bring Aardsma back. He's got a live arm. And they should DFA Cotts to clear a space.
  13. Citing Greene's BA, or his lack of SBs, isn't helping your argument....& his OPS has already been addressed multiple times, i.e., home road splits--Petco not so much a hitter's paradise... Take a look at his http://sandiego.padres.mlb.com/stats/individual_player_hitting_chart.jsp?playerID=425867&statType=1 Hitting charts in PETCO. Specifically 2005 and 2007 show that he would have had at least 20 homeruns (in home games alone) if his home park was wrigley.
  14. Hanley Ramirez disagrees I did use the word "if" Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Hanley's defense wipe out about 75% of his offensive wins, similar to Braun?
  15. That would imply the Padres were actually wanted to trade Greene. True, it's a jump, but given hi refusal to extend his contract and their desire for Murton, it does beg the question. Obviously, Murton wouldn't get the deal done alone. Maybe throw in Patterson and Cedeno as well? I'd let em have Theriot if they wanted him instead of Cedeno. And I would probably give up Gallagher too. Somehow I think Towers and DePo can figure out that Greene and Headley/Hairston>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Theriot or Cedeno and Murton. I'd think we'd have to give them a real SS in return, one who fits their stadium better. Someone like Jack Wilson. I think BTB posted it a while ago, but a 3 teamer with Bay and Wilson going to the Padres, Greene coming here and a boatload of prospects going to the Pirates would work.
  16. Man, I wish I would have played baseball at a professional level. Then I would have learned that I want inferior hitters to get more at bats than my best hitters. If only Fred McGriff would have endorsed a coaching video that my little league coaches could have bought and I wouldn't have broken my shoulder skiing then Wrigley23 could have been quoting whatever comment I'd be giving on the subject.
  17. If they are interested in Murton doesn't a deal that nets us Greene make a lot of sense? Only if we give up a lot more and they get a SS replacement.
  18. Can anybody tell me why this would never happen other than Hendry not wanting to pull the trigger on tha tmany moves, but are there any of the proposals that are unrealistic. Because the Orioles would want more, the Blue Jays would want more, and the Padres would want more?
  19. sure +1 please
  20. Our rotation is only slightly better, our lineup is only slightly better, we've sold out 3 years of a #2 pitcher, given up our best position prospect (if you can call pie a prospect), our 2 best starting pitcher prospects, and 2 of the remaining top 5 position prospects. That is God awful. Ohh and I totally missed giving up Murton.
  21. If we'd subsitute Marmol for Hill I'd like the Bedard deal. Otherwise you are just screwing yourself down the road.
  22. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cs-071105rogers,1,60753.column Thinking back to what Phil Rogers was speculating in November: "If the Cubs signed him [Fukudome], they might be in position to use Felix Pie in a significant trade, possibly with San Diego for shortstop Khalil Greene." I think there already is a Greene thread about he and the Padres not reaching terms on a long term deal. He does have 2 years left before free agency. Maybe San Diego moves him now for Pie and something else. Greene will probably make $11M in the next 2 seasons. The only problem is that Fukudome signed specifically to play RF. The stories claim that is why he picked the Cubs over the White Sox. Unless you convince Soriano to play CF, the Cubs would need a CF. I agree with some of the other posts about Murton, Cedeno, plus Marshall (?). If the Byrd deal doesn't work, it would be nice to expand the deal to get Hairston as a 4th OF. Also an issue would be the lack of a SS on the Padres.
  23. Not mentioned is that Greene is of the Baha'i faith and Wilmette has the biggest Temple in the U.S. Can't hurt.
