  1. I'd do that in a heartbeat, though I don't know Johnson's contract situation, and where would he play come late-June? This is why the NL needs the DH ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) You better not be serious. The DH is the stupidest rule ever. No it's not. The DH gives the AL a unique look. Believe it or not...while both the AL/NL are under the banner or the MLB, the two leagues are still competing with one another for fans, etc. The DH is as AL and apple pie. DH is not a stupid rule, the DH in the NL, is the stupidest thing I've heard. Where are the AL and the NL really truly competing for fans? In the Bronx? in Queens? In Baltimore? In Washington? On the Northside? On the Southside? In Oakland? In San Francisco? In Anaheim? In LA? I would have to say that geographic and familial preference would determine whether you will be an AL/NL fan, not whether or not you want to see the DH.
  2. I have three words for you "Wilkerson for Soriano", not to mention Sledge, who is a useful 4th OF.
  3. Tony Clark is very inexpensive. Around $1M for 2006. He does have a NTC though. But what do we do with Clark when Lee comes back? Clark can only play 1b, and he's not going to get much time with Lee in front of him. Doesn't seem to be a fit for the Cubs IMO. We use him off the bench. He'll be that power bat on the bench that we don't have. That's much better than Bynum or Hairston pinch hitting late in games. And it would probably be wise to give Lee a day off here and there down the stretch to keep him strong anyway. That forearm is going to be really weak and that's where you generate most of your power from. That gave me a good laugh.
  4. God, I'm even right when I'm sarcastic.
  5. Well duh, if you are reporting from St. Louis, you have to be in St. Louis, and regardless of the outcome of the game, life sucks in St. Louis. Note to St. Louis, everyone else figured out how to bread and fry ravioli, you ain't got nothin' anymore. THE ARCH!@!!! Ohh right, I hear it doesnt smell like pee anymore. Thank God theres an elevator, I can barely move after eating a gross of toasted raviolis

  7. If you are going to score runs in an inning, most likely you are going to have to get to the 5th batter.
  8. Well yeah, Clemens has been a total hermit all through the baseball season. He's been all over the place here in Houston. That's what most people don't understand. He's just opened a new sports bar here, he's part owner of another place that's about to open, he's all over the local car dealer's advertisements, he's spotted around town all the time, the guy's a God here and he has a very big vested interest in keeping the citizens of Houston in his corner and patronizing his establishments. Couple that with the fact that his family lives here and the 'stros have started out well w/o him, and I just don't see him going anywhere else. I DO think he'll use the other clubs to bid up the asking price and get McClane to open up the pocket book for him. Sounds too busy to play baseball... And the arguement that youve been here for 30 months and XZeros been here for 31 is really weak. Its one thing if a newby uses the show your face line, its another if a vet does.
  9. Dude, like you said, its not the walks that made the cards beat us, its the timely hitting! Agreed, but timely hitting AFTER walks. So, pretty much the walks. Man, what you guys dont understand is that you cant control if you are walked at not. You just gotta go up there hacking and if the pitcher throws you a strike you gotta swing at it. Especially if its the first pitch. What you can control is timely hitting, you just gotta be clutch...DUDE.
  10. You're reading too much into it, IMO. Plus, we need Cabrera in April, early May. Not June. It's too late in June. . Did you here that? "POP" That was my bubble. Look at the white sox record in the second half of last year if you need to feel better.
  11. *Ding, Ding, Ding* Give the poster that gets it a cigar. This seems like a passive strategy though. Let them struggle and fall out of contention and then determine a deal doesn't have to be made (at least not with us being the buyer). Better than a knee jerk trade for a garbage player that wont be any better than anyone we already have.
  12. 2 guys from LAA/LAD/AZ top 10 = 5 guys from our top 10 Of course it all depends on the guys you chose, but thats not an unfair statement. Point is, the cubs may have quantity, but we dont have top notch quality in the farm outside of Paw and Pie.
  13. We did? I recall the Cubs, for as long as I've been watching them until recently, spend money on veterans and have horrible farm systems taht had mediocre prospects projected to be superstars because they didn't completely suck. I sure don't remember what *you're* talking about. Just keep in mind which team in the NL has been the most consistently good over the last decade plus, and which team has been the most consistently near the top in player development. Hint: they're both the same team. I suspect getting Cabrera would cost at *least* Patterson and Pie, plus young pitching (probably some combination of Hill, Guzman, and Pawelek). And that's just to keep up with what other teams with better systems would be able to offer. If the farm system were in better overall shape, I could get behind that deal, but I'm not sure now. That would decimate the system, and let's say one of the big three (now including Cabrera) gets hurt again. It's not like there'll be anything left to offer for another player at that point. And not to mention that we need those guys to step up because we wouldnt be able to afford all the 10M plus players in a couple years.

  16. Good point. I have no idea why some people would rather wait for the prospects to develop and hope we get lucky and have a top team that way. We tried that strategy for about 100 years. Let's try something else, just once. Maybe there are some people who are realistic to the fact that there are at least a half dozen teams who have significantly better talent in their farm systems to get a deal done. I echo BBBs sentiment. There are numerous threads on this subject. Its already been proven that Cabrera currently is not available taboot.
  17. Glendon is a keeper in your mind? The problem with waiting to deal Wood is that (besides the obligatory no trade clause response) he wont be tradeable until Lee is probably half way done with his DL stint. Regarding trading for a big bat...when was the last time a superstar was dealt in April?
  18. Depends on your steals situation.
  19. Why didn't they retro him on the DL for earlier? Its my understanding you can retroactivate a player to the DL to the day after he plays his last game in front of a paying crowd. They could have put Miller on the DL retroactive to March 1st and then, if he is ready to come off the DL in May, he can. At taht point, we can transfer DLee to the 60 day DL if he isnt going to be back by June 20th. We should have a better idea of how long hes going to stay out after he gets his hard cast off. It might not end up being a big deal, but up until this point it seemed as though he was a week or two behind Wood. Now, he isnt eligible to pitch until June 1.
  20. I've purposefully stayed awey from the board after the Lee injury, so I apologize if Pena has been brought up, but hed be the best option to replace Lee. I saw Craig Wilson mentioned, not gonna happen. (as a side note, the karma is ridiculous) The Yanks signed Pena to a minor league deal last week and although I'm not sure if he can opt out, Torre's comments have alluded to the fact that hes not getting called up anytime soon. Basically hes just insurance for Giambi. He can't be a platoon partner because he too is a lefty. If he can't get out of the contract, then I'm sure the Yanks would take a minor leaguer for him. Pena is excellent defensively and has very above average power. He does strike out a lot (and I do mean a lot) and although he cant hit for average, he at least walks a decent amount so his OBP is around average. All in all, I think Pena is the only realistic replacement option that can OPS 800. However, according to a Tigers fan friend of mine, hes about the streakiest hitter ever.
  21. That's essentially the lineup I thought of when I first heard about it. I am in concurrance. I think Hairston has a better shot of putting up a better OBP than Cedeno. Plus, I like a balanced lineup and the least amount of shakeup. However, you know on Maddux (and possibly Zambrano) Dustys going to go with Neifi and Mabry. On those days I would hope that hed also play Barrett, otherwise our lineup would really suck, but heres my best lineup with Neifi and Mabry. Pierre Cedeno ARAM Barrett Jones Murton Mabry Neifi
  22. I am in concurrance, what other starters does this guy have to offer? I like Bedard and enjoyed his hot streak last year, but with all the pub (and performance to back it up) that Pap is receiving, you should be looking to get a #2 starter for him. Maybe package one of your starters with Pap to maximize your ability to upgrade starters.
  23. thats a good one but.... i think that it worked well for both, the brewers got a good power hitter, while the white sox got a pure leadoff man that helped them to winning the world series, as for vizcaino he was OK out of the pen. hence, not a good one
  24. Im against vetoing a trade where even though its somewhat lopsided its made in good faith. Although that one is pretty darn lopsided. Its not like the other guy has 4 better outfielders than Vlad. Or that he can reasonably expect Delgado to do better than Vlad for the rest of the year.
  25. If he plays long enough, he'll break Reggie Jackson's all time strikeout record. Is that the metric to determine whether some one is a free swinger or not? How about look at contact rate and pitches/pa? Maybe Dunn strikes out a lot because he goes deep into counts and takes a lot of pitches? Hmmm, in 2004 and 2005 he was 5th in the league in Pitches/PA.
