  1. I need to deal one of them for a closer. Which one should I deal, and what level of closer should I be targeting? Its a 12 team 5 player keeper league. I'm thinking Gomes and Holliday are fairly similar except for BA, which Holliday will probably beat Gomes by about 30 points. I've been offered Chris Ray for Gomes, but I think I should be able to get better. The guy also has Jenks and Papelbon. Hes really really thin on OF. I'm thinking of countering with Gomes and Cameron for Papelbon. Thoughts?
  2. Gibbons has a sore right everything, Wilson has been dead weight for the last month, and McCarthy isn't worth his weight (hes really skinny). Drop Wilson.
  3. I'm in a 12 team league thats pretty deep offensively. Currently my OF is Manny Gomes Holliday Shawn Green Nixon Sanders Cameron Melky Botts Baldelli (I told you it was deep offensively). I have the 4th waiver claim and recently passed up Morales. Is Milledge worth the claim? Hitting 7th or 8th probably isn't going to be a ton of value, although maybe he'll be let lose on the basepaths (I'm dying for steals). Nady was starting to play like one would expect (a 4th OF) before he got hurt so a decent showing might keep Milledge in the majors, but you never know with the Mets brass. What do you guys think? Should I hold pat and try to move up the waiver chain for a better call up later on in the season? Chances are very slim that he will make it through.
  4. Lugo is going to be a big asset for you. Play him, hes running like crazy. Giles will be just fine. Furcal on the other hand I'm not high on. Hes coming off a leg injury and is playing in Chavez Ravine so his SBs and HRs will be muted. Nomar was hurt and Kent is struggling so thats hurting him as well. Unfortunately, his value is at its lowest so you probably wont be able to catch a decent trade. Try and target someone in your league who is in desperate need of steals the day after Furcal steals a base, they might bite. Barfield, meh, hes a decent reserve. If you can get Ellis or Loretta, pick them up, they are breaking out of massive slumps. I have both (and Peralta) and its been rough, but you gotta stick with the guys you think are going to do well through the slumps. I actually traded JD Drew for Furcal when Lugo got hurt, and I thought it was a steal. Hasn't workout out that great so far. On an update, Furcal's turning it on. Might be a result of him getting healthier. Hes getting on base a lot, raised his average 20 points in the last week, attempted 3 steals and hit a couple jacks. Another name to add to the list is Brandon Phillips if youre looking for steals. Looks like with Griffey back its back to supersub for Freel with Phillips getting the nod at second.
  5. Which one would you chose if they were both available FAs? Johnson struggled like none other at the beginning of the season, but hes shown signs of turning it around. Johnson has a year of success and more power potential, but Jackson has shown that he despite his inexperience, he truly is a professional hitter. From here on out, whos better, in terms of 5x5 roto? Discuss.
  6. it also helps to say what your scoring is, but that looks like a pretty stellar team. If I were you Id sell high on Maddux (might be a bit harder today than a few days ago). You dont really have any holes to fill, but see if you can buy low on an underperforming, undervalued, or injured pitcher. You might be able to steal someone like Harden, Patterson, or Sheets

  8. I echo UM's sentiments. I went to 20-25 games at the Cell last year and the park's improvements are fantastic. Much better place to see a game than it used to be, I enjoy myself there. AND I agree on the fans. All you have to do is walk from the L to the field and you will be bombarded by double digit numbers of t shirt vendors selling anti cubs stuff. Now we aren't talking about "Cubs suck" we are talking about graphic pictures of stick figures fellating with the caption "Cubs blow", "Wrigley field, worlds largest gay bar", "Southside hit men" with a cub logo with bullet holes and so on. I swear there were nearly as many people (mind you this is all throughout last year) wearing anti cubs gear as pro sox gear. I have many many sox fan friends and regarding chicago baseball their mentality is just so different than cubs fans on the whole. Even after the championship there is such a loathing inferiority complex in them. I always used to say that my favorite team was the cubs and my second favorite team was "whoever is playing the sox", but sox fans really take it to another level.
  9. Guys, calm down. Once Pierre gets out of the frozen tundra of the Southwest, he will be able to beat out all these groundballs!
  10. Jeez, I hope you dont own a pet...or even a plant!
  11. no. Interesting. In any other employment situation "truthiness" would be a big issue. Sports is so removed from reality its frightening. The fact that you are frightened by sport's distance from reality is frightening...hell, OJ killed a couple people and got away from it. Yeah Giambi took the cream and the clear and stuff, but frankly, he's handled it better than anyone else. People make mistakes, not accidents, conscious mistakes. The fact is, is that Giambi is a very good player due to his eyes, he becomes a great player due to his power. You can never make an artificial excuse for his insane Williams-esque pitch selection.
  12. He has a TV, and he has watched the Cubs. A very intelligent man. hahahahahha OR, he knows his value his at its lowest so it wouldnt be the best time for him to become a FA...he'll play in the minors with the Yanks until he heats up and they'll either call him up or he'll ask to be released.
  13. I assume Kruk is your commish and he devised that point system after drafting the big unit last year. Seriously, thats crazy.
  14. 5 bucks says that thread is about Jimmy Anderson.
  15. I wouldn't want Jason on the Cubs...because his season will never again go unquestion. You have to constantly put up :-s about his season. I want players who unquestionably clean, not players who you have doubts about. Maybe they should start testing...oh wait a minute.
  16. Whats the rest of your rotation? I agree Johnson is an injury risk, but in a league that counts OBP, he has quite a bit of value. I am in a similar situation (I also have young), and would consider trading him for someone like Johnson. Do you have a MI that you could also play Jackson at?
  17. Whats your scoring? Personally, I think your first trade was a little better (except for the Milton part of course). Haren is going to be better than Maddux from here on out. I would have sold high on him. Patterson is good, very very good. It doesnt matter that hes going on the DL, in fact, its probably better because hopefully he will be fully healthy and can put the forearm issue behind him. And do you mean Aubrey Huff? Hes not going to help you in saves. And Granderson will hopefully get you 20 SBs, nothing to sneeze at, but nothing to rely on. Ichiro could easily double that.
  18. Whats your current first base situation, and are Dan Johnson, Conor Jackson, or Casey Kotchman available as FAs?
  19. Do you think he would cost less than Choi or Pena? Well considering Choi and Pena are both in the minors and Cuddyer isnt in jeopardy of getting sent down, I would say of course. However, Gardenhier seems to never want to play him. Thats why I brought his name up, I think hes attainable and serviceable.
  20. Dope doesn't seem like he'd be a good fit in Philly. The Cubs are probably shopping him pretty hard since Lee is here for five more years and I haven't heard any news about Dope playing another position. For that same reason, I couldn't see the Phillies being interested in Dope. Dope's value is at its lowest, I sure hope they dont sell on him now
  21. I would like to ammend this post and say any one of Guzman, Marshall, or Hill. I think giving up two of them would be too much. I would however, give them E. Patterson or Dope, or some other top position prospect. Im guilty of this as well at times, but thats mad crazy homerism.
  22. Hamels obviously stands out among that group. He just struck out 14 in 7 innings in his AAA debut. Hes always an injury risk though and will probably be a sept call up, unless an injury (or two) occurs. If you need to be playing a pitcher now, go with Baker. Davies is really good, and has had two good starts so thats promising. He'll improve on his 2005 performance, but itd be hard not to. His K/BB is looking good this year, but he has to keep the ball in the park. Thats what killed him last year (well one of many problems). Baker is the safest bet. Hes not going to get you strike outs, but your picking up a FA, you cant ask for a 5 category guy. Sosa aint nothin sans Leo, and I think the others speak for themselves.
  23. So far hes been the odd man out in the Twins lineup. Hes struggling so far this year but has decent talent. He might come on the cheap. Thoughts?
  24. His ability to miss bats is not irrelevant. I don't have those links handy, but TT or BK might. Are you just referencing K's or BB's as well? Because the walks are very much a concern. As his his inconsistency. If I though trading Wuertz would contribute at all to the Cubs keeping their heads above water until Lee returns, I wouldn't hesitate for a second. Wasn't most of this due to overuse?
  25. Cue todays news... (it doesnt get much more perfect than that)
