I predict Auburn will still be solid, but they will probably go 8-3 or 9-2 in the regular season this year at best. They play the McFaddens, Florida Gators, LSU Tigers, and Georgia Bulldogs on the road and will likely lose at least 2 of those 4. Auburn will miss the following players that were seniors last season: Kenny Irons RB David Irons DB Courtney Taylor WR Karibi Dede LB Will Herring OLB Kevin Sears LB Ben Grubbs OG Joe Cope C Tim Duckworth OG John Vaugh K Kody Bliss P QB: Senior Brandon Cox returns, and those that followed college football threads last season know that I am not a fan of his. He played with an injury for much of last season and his was unable to throw the ball with great velocity for much of the year. The man cannot scramble. If the pocket crumbles, so will he. Auburn recruited Kodi Burns, a kid that was highly touted; he's very quick with a strong arm. He will likely struggle with his accuracy at least initially, but he could give the team a very differet look at QB in the near future. Auburn should get better play at QB this year compared to last season. RB: One might think that Kenny Irons would be the hardest player to replace out of the bunch, but that's not the case. Auburn will not miss much at RB. Brad Lester is #1 on the depth chart presently, and he has been very good over the past two seasons, but I predict sophomore Ben Tate will be the starting RB by the end of the year. He is the strongest and most talented of the group. They have solid #3 and 4 backs as well if injury becomes a factor. Hopefully the O-line will do their part WR: Auburn loses their best receiver, Courtney Taylor, but Rod Smith, P. Rodriguez, and Montez Billings are all a year older. I'm pretty sure Rod Smith is talented enough to be the goto guy this year; if he steps, up Auburn should be as good at WR as they were last year. OL: Ben Grubbs will be hard to replace, but Auburn will still have a solid line anchored by 6-8, 321 pound King Dunlap. Auburn recruited several talented offensive linemen, but they likely won't contribute until next season. Auburn will suprise me if their OL is as good at run or pass blocking compared to last season. DL: Quentin Groves DE will shine this season barring injury and should provide a formidable pass rush. He's a preseason candidate for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award, and is on Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year watchlist. He needs only 3 more sacks to tie the school record for a career. NT Josh Thompson and DT Pat Sims return and are strong up the middle. Sen'Derrick Marks will move from DT to the other DE this season and was on many all freshmen team last season. Auburn's DL should be an improvement over last season's. LB: If sophomore Tray Blackmon can harness his talent (suspended for much of last season), he could become Auburn's best LB. He is extremely explosive but raw. Along with Craig Stevens, Steve Gandy, and Merrill Johson, Blackmon will have much to prove early. DB: Auburn loses David Irons. However, they return the remainder of the secondary, and they bring in a top h.s. safety from the recruiting class, Michael McNeil. Tuberville has been quoted stating that McNeil will contribute early. K/P: Auburn loses both their starting kicker and punter, both were strengths for the Tigers last year. They burned two scholarships on the kicking department this past winter, but they will likely downgrade in this area at least initially.
